Dr. Gary Fettke is an Orthopaedic Surgeon practising in Launceston, Australia. Along with his wife Belinda, Gary has also opened the 'Nutrition for Life - Diabetes and Health Research Centre' based in Launceston which provides nutritional care around Tasmania and Australia.
Gary has a longstanding interest in the preventative aspects of health outcomes, particularly before operating on his patients. Recently an AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) investigation into Gary’s qualifications to give nutritional advice has concluded. This investigation (which lasted for more than two years) has resulted in Gary being issued a ‘caution’.
The Medical Board of Tasmania, under the umbrella of the Australian Health Practitioners Regulatory Authority, have advised him; ”In particular, that he does not provide specific advice or recommendations on the subject of nutrition and how it relates to the management of diabetes or the treatment and/or prevention of cancer.”
They may silence the messenger, but they can’t silence the message.

My kiddo had seizures(no genetic issues, im convinced it was caused by aluminum in the vaccinations). Anyway, we tried the meds first and while it stopped the seizures, she lost her personality. We went through 18 months of the worst, darkest time of my life. I thought I’d never see my child smile or laugh again. Doctors couldn’t help, supplements couldn’t help. Ketogenic diet helped, it saved all of us. After 3 months her seizures were gone. After 9 months something magical happened and we got her back. Just one day at the age of 5 she told us she was not sick anymore. I’ll be forever grateful to those who discovered ketogenic diet. She is almost 8 now, hasn’t had seizures in over 3.5 years, top of her class in all subjects.

If you want a laugh I had to give up so very much for all sorts of pain only to find that milk was giving me hell with my knees as well. Cream and butter was no problem at all, just the milk for some strange reason. Whether it was the lactose or the protiens in it or not I have no idea but it only took about a week to make all the difference so it's worth checking out.

Some years ago when my doctor told me I had type 2 diabetes, I asked him if I could still eat fruit. He said, "You can eat all the fruit you want. You are glucose intolerant, not fructose intolerant." And that's not the worst advice I have ever gotten from mainstream doctors. The public really needs protection from mainstream medical doctors.

Yeah same here. I thought eating fruit was so healthy... don't get me wrong it's filled with nutrients but it's also filled with sugar and can be just addictive as sweets. It sucks but fruit sends me into binges as well so it's best just to avoid them. I've been eating a more Mediterranean style diet these past few months during my pregnancy which has tasted amazing but tbh I need control. I've gained so much weight already and my inflammation is back full force I can't even wear my wedding ring ugh. My doctor gave me the ok on a more Mediterranean style keto or clean keto so I've started that today and I'm watching this while enjoying my allotted one cups of coffee a day lol keto coffee at that. Normally wake up starving lately which I did but since I started drinking my fatty coffee my hunger has subsided already. Oh forgot to mention that I was keto for 1 and a half years before this pregnancy and I lost 65lbs so needless to say is I love me some keto Haha. This time around isn't focused on weight loss, its focused on reducing inflammation and joint pain and also to help control my bloating and gas. Haha ok I'm done.

I don't usually throw my two cents into any of these conversations on the internet because nothing usually comes from them. Here it goes. I'll tell you what a friend told me a week before he died of obesity, diabetes and heart disease. He said, Brian what I've learned after going through all this Agony with diabetes . we don't need to eat as much food as we think we do. And from experience I can tell you he's right I've cut my eating habits down to one meal a day.I don't eat junk food anymore and I eat very little fruit just on occasion. I know for a fact that if you eat like that you can have a piece of pie or some ice cream sometime. you can have a little bit of pasta. you can eat some steak. We don't even need to eat everyday. Enough said I can't believe I even made a comment on the internet. you all take care. One more thing I do limit my sugar intake which I think is really important. That includes my carbohydrate intake.
@johnnypenso9574
@johnnypenso9574 5 лет назад
I'm not criticizing but if we watched the same video, you can see that Dr. Fettke would tell you that if you think eating pie and ice cream and pasta is good for you, you need to rewatch the video until it sinks in. We all think we can eat a little of this and a little of that and at the end of the day, 40, 50, 60% of our calories come from carbohydrates and that is the primary source of inflammation in the body and connected to the very obesity, diabetes and heart disease that killed your friend. All carbohydrates, and I mean all, are sugar. Carbohydrates are literally chains of sugar molecules, be it table sugar, honey, broccoli or kale. This is what the doctor said in his lecture. Yes fructose and simple sugars are treated differently by the body, but all carbs are still sugar. There is not much difference between eating a bowl of pasta noodles and a half a bowl of sugar.

After watching this, I realized that I have been eating store-bought salad dressings that use these crappy polyunsaturated fats like soybean oil. Ugh this stuff sneaks into everything. Gonna have to bite the bullet and make my own using the good stuff. Everything needs to be made from scratch if you really want to know what’s going in it.

Cholesterol is actually not bad, it is good, it's objective is to solve the problems with fat in the blood, make steroid hormones like vitamin D and testosterone, etc, when it's concentration is high, people don't have to get it down, people have to discover the reason why the body is producing it, because it is not what's causing the problem, the body is producing it because it's trying to solve the problem, getting it down will just slow down the healing process of the real problem you have, that's what conventional medicine is about today, treating the symptom not the cause.

There was a huge push for formula by the 1960s; tons of TV commercials. During Emergencies in poor countries they would ship lots of formula, causing women to stop breastfeeding, and babies would become dependent on formula, and rates of deaths would increase because: •Unclean water needed to make formula caused diseases increased deaths in those under age 3. •Formula was expensive, after supply of formula to country in emergency stopped after 6 months, the people had not enough money to feed babies formula. So they use other white powders with nearly no nutrition, babies get sick and die easily. Coffee whitener is one such powder. This is still happening. As a worse case scenario, mother should drink formula, and breastfeed baby.

Brilliant video. Great personality. Very engaging. An important and honest message about nutrition that people need to know because of the centuries of misinformation. People need the truth so they can make informed decisions about their lifestyles. The misinterpretation and promoting of bad science behind nutrition is truly shocking. 100 years of food myths and deep seated cultural ideas around eating prevents the message getting through. Though, at least in UK and Australia where healthcare is free (ish) I’m convinced there’ll be a financial breaking point (due to the medical servicing of underlying nutritional diseases) where the authorities will have no option but to correct the messages, else face financial disaster (that tax payers won’t be able to afford).

This is by far the most enlightening talk on nutrition that I have ever watched on RU-vid... thank you Dr Fettke for breaking it down so solidly for me. In the past I thrived on a raw food diet of fruits n veggie shakes (I'm in Africa - plenty of vitamin D here fortunately!) but was unable to keep that up due to its restrictive and time consuming tendencies. Ive always wondered what about it made me feel so great and so full of energy and above all helped me rid my body of increasingly nagging symptoms of arthritis! I have just experienced a eureka moment.. Its not what I was putting in my body that made me feel great, its what I WASN'T putting in it. ie the polyunsaturated "vegetable " cooking oils. I don't know how to thank you for this revelation. God bless you! I look forward to hearing more from you. Now to look for cooking oil substitutes... I'll start with coconut oil.. its available n affordable where I live. I hope your theory holds up.
@Loribyn

The best fats to cook in are good, old-fashioned lard and tallow (but any highly saturated fat ~ like coconut fat, butter, and palm fat, will do nicely. Vary these by _what_ you're cooking. For example, to cook a steak, I think you can't beat butter; but fried/roast veggies, like pumpkin, are better with lard; and if you're going to have a rare, small amount of potato, tallow can't be surpassed). With lard and tallow you'll notice incredible flavour in your fried and roast foods, and unmatched cooking-properties and performance, with a much easier-to-clean stove afterwards (just remember a good cooking-apron, because, even though it is easier to clean off after cooking, real fat spits _a lot_ more than the toxic seed oils [due to its natural water content]; so you might also want to buy yourself a frying-pan mesh cover).

Some common mistakes to be careful of when trying to fix your gut health include: adding a probiotic to help with excessive gas and bloating (that's just one piece of the puzzle), eliminating a food for 4 days and expecting it solve the issue (will take at least 2 weeks), and not thinking about root causes!

I learned all this and started practicing it in the early 90's before it was really talked about. I rarely consume (except I am sure when eating out) any of the standard polyunsat veg oils or grains. From his lectures my worse offense is that I do eat berries year round with my breakfast.

Little sin that brain health approves :) i devour dark red grapes through one whole month a year. My feast time. Still struggling with coffee but already limited to every second days only. body needs balance in everything some natural stressors and inflammation itself has also some use if limited and healed afterwards. As well as insulin spikes. Like our immune system keep shape naturally & like exercise, heat or cold exposure conditions healthy body Many small changes & agreeing with natural cycles make massive difference.

I’m type2, none of my GPs have told me that type2 can be put in remission. I also have hypertension and on meds for it, my GPs don’t even realise (or pass on) that healing my body is possible just by cutting carbs sugar and seed oils - this has been around for enough years they have no excuse- I’m really po’d. I’ve gone carnivore and fermented foods, losing weight and HBA1c has dropped significantly and I’m aiming for “normality” once that happens I’m ditching statins and challenging my BP meds. 178cm at this point 80kg.

That was an eye-opener. Anyone who cooks knows that seed oils oxidize more easily that grease/lard, etc. What I didn't know was that the kind of fat you eat gets incorporated into your tissue, cell walls, etc. So if you eat seed oils, your cell walls have polyunsaturated fats in them--fats that are easily oxidized. LDL is a natural chemical. It becomes dangerous, mostly, when it is oxidized or glycated.

Hi Gary Thanks for the witty, visually pleasing, comprehensive, uncluttered and simple presentation. This makes so much sense. Thanks for curating the information so that we all can be more aware. I am a nutrition enthusiast, and on the verge of reversing my diabetes. I am keenly interested in living long and healthy. What you say is similar what some of our ancestors from the Indus Valley said. In fact nutrition was biggest science then and the cook was the doctor. I have few questions for you, are carbohydrates from grains for example rice, sorghum, pearl millet, foxtail millet and so on as bad as from fruits? I am from India and we eat loads of seasonal millets. Are Vegetables, which grow on the contaminated soils, or animals who consume them are safe for us to eat? Isn’t that altering the content of the fats that you are mentioning for example clarified cow butter? What about Lactose? Eat seems no carbohydrates are good. You are right… largely we are doomed, Thanos seem to have clicked his fingers long time ago  or Shiva opened his 3rd eye…may be we are not fit for earth. Thanks & Regards Raghu

Imagine if we all did the right things. Ate correctly, exercised, listen to what Dr Fettke is saying and did the right thing. We would put so many out of work. In the USA, $1 of every $4 in medical is spent of Diabetes, let me say that again, $1 in $4 USD......So the follow on, less medical staff as we would have less patients, less external medical services, medical centres, Paramedics. If we did the correct thing we would have no McDonald's, Hungry Jacks etc, obesity, would be in the past and the need for medications greatly reduced. What would that do to the economies of the world. Dr Fettke is the start of a very slow smouldering fire that needs to be heard, and heard bu the people who do not want to listen. Seriously, I love my chips, chocolate, honey on toast, and sausages etc. But I am starting to listen and take note.

Nothing wrong with sausages (as long as they're real, old-fashioned butcher's snags [or homemade], that are made of *meat and fat* [with added herbs, spices and veggies if desired], and _not_ 'padded-out' with carbs). The same is true of _dark_ chocolate (70% or higher), in moderation -- and it's positively LOADED with minerals (far more than any piece of fruit; just as liver is more vitamin-dense). There are plenty of low-carb chip recipes out there (made of baked cheese and spices usually), and they're delicious. And you can still have toast (I'd die without my vegemite toast!) ~ just make the bread keto-friendly and home-made.

So, if I understand it correctly, polyunsaturated fats are bad in combination with carbs...... That makes sense. High carb plant based advocates are always promoting low fat. That's because fat in combination with a lot of carbs is unhealthy. The the keto proponents avoid this bad combination by eliminating the carbs as much as possible. It all makes sense. What is not clear to me is what the ideal ratios are on keto. Omega 3 to omega 6 to saturated fat. And if there even is such a thing as ideal ratio of these fats on keto.

Totally fascinating talk and just what I needed to hear as I've been suffering with a sugar addiction for years, chocolate, bread, crisps you name it. I have been dabbling with an Ayurvedic way if eating for about 3 months, but only this month I discovered a quick fix to my sugar addiction as my sugar addiction was still present. I found constitution Bitters in my local Asian store (struggled with it at first as it's not pleasant to taste, but now look forward to it EVERY morning). After about a week I realised that I wasn't craving sugar anymore and I don't "fart all day" 😁 (what a bonus for everyone walking behind me) It's winter here in the UK so I'll ensure that I take my vitamin D supplements every day to maximize the benefits. Thanks for slotting everything into place, hopefully now I'll get rid of my brain fog, chronic fatigue and other inflammation in my body.

I do believe there is a case for plants being less nutritious today than say 70 or 80 years ago before we started bombing them with NPK etc, I still believe the mineral content of plants however they are grown is offset by the anti-nutrient factors, in other words, the more nutritionally dense they become, the stronger the defenses of the plant could potentially become. I used to totally agree with what you say (have done a LOT of research into growing nutritionally dense food myself ) but now having ditched almost all plants and only eating organic plants when I do, even the best greens don't make me feel as good as a 100% animal foods diet does. Plants and I, we have broken up for good lol. I do still like to grow nutritionally dense greens, I feed them to my ducks instead and my word you have never seen egg yolks as orange :-)

I have a question about hormone known as vitamin D, where is it assembled by the body? Does the bacteria in the small intestine have anything to do with the assembly of D (D2/D3?) and which bacteria help to build D2 /D3? Does wearing UV blocking glasses, sunhats and long sleeves impact D production? Thank you once again Gary.

Fish & chips are cooked in inflammatory processed seed oils. Grains are inflammatory, especially for those with autoimmune disease. Fish is covered in flour or corn starch. You might even have Celiac Disease. Gluten is hidden in nearly everything. Excess insulin from excess glucose will increase odds of acquiring Type 2 Diabetes, but even Type 1 Diabetes for those with autoimmune diseases.

so the problem are not fruits. it s the processed carbs ( 25:00 ). i guarantee you, that if at the same time you cut out absolutely all carbs for a week, this isn t forever, and eat only fruit either instead of meals or instead of carbs, your fructose production will eventually start to go down. the whole issue is eating processed foods, and i know fruits are not what they used to be, but as long as they have seeds, they re still more healthy than white flour.
@nanjappa42
@nanjappa42 4 года назад
Yes, you are right. The problem is not fruits as such, but genetically modified and chemically treated fruits. Fruits in season, fruits with seeds, organically grown , naturally ripened are good. I know cases where DIABETES, HYPERTENSION, HEART RELATED PROBLEMS HAVE ALL BEEN CURED WITH AN ENTIRELY FRUIT DIET, BY COMPLETELY ELIMINATING CARBS. I think there is a qualitative difference between the fructose from fruits and the fructose from refined sugar. Fruits should be taken separate, and not combined with cooked food.

Interesting claim about uric acid... the foods that are supposed to create uric acid are beef, pork, most seafood, organ meat, oatmeal, spinach, cauliflower, mushrooms, cabbage... I think peaches and tomatoes too... there may be more... find someone with gout (like me) and you can test out different foods and see if they spark gout... but, I usually never get a flare up when I eat a lot of fruit. And I plan to eat a bunch of peaches during next peach season to see if the recommendation to avoid them applies to me, because I love peaches. One antidote to gout, is tart cherries, although I eat lots of sweet cherries every day... and take a tart cherry supplement. Apparently, cherries help the body clear uric acid. You do not want gout. It feels like your bones (usually in the feet, but in my case mostly in my fingers) have shattered and just barely touching them, is crazy painful.

Gout is caused when mixing fruits/carbs with animal fats. The Randell cycle kicks in. Your cells create loads of inflammation. On there own fruits are not as bad. Just eating meat and fat means you don't need the fruit or carbs.

Acidosis is the only disease - “The idea behind the whole thing is to keep your body basic, thereby eliminating dietary and metabolic acids, preventing the biological transformation of body cells into microforms, and ensuring radiant health. To that end, you’re going to focus on foods that alkalize your body and avoid those that acidify it. All food ingested releases electrons for energy, leaving an ash residue. This ash residue can be neutral, acidic, or alkaline, depending mostly on the mineral content of the original food. For example, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium, zinc, silver, copper, and iron form basic ash; sulfur, phosphorus, chlorine, and iodine leave acid ash. Most elements are alkaline. Fortunately for us, it is easy to categorize which foods leave which kind of ash. In general, animal foods-meat, eggs, dairy-processed and refined foods, yeast products, fermented foods, grains, artificial sweeteners, sweet fruit, and natural and artificial sugars are acidifying, as are alcohol, coffee, chocolate, black tea, and sodas. Vegetables, on the other hand, are alkalizing. That includes a few that are technically fruits: avocado, tomato, cucumber, bell pepper. A few nonsweet citrus fruits, such as grapefruit, lemon, and lime, are also basic in the body, as are sprouted seeds, nuts, and grains. Grains are acidifying, though a few (millet, buckwheat, and spelt) are only very mildly so. Raw foods are more alkalizing, while cooked food is more acidifying. We measure alkalinity and acidity along the pH scale. pH stands for “the potential of hydrogen”-its proton concentration. The pH scale also measures the potential of hydroxyl ions, or electron concentration. Foods saturated with hydroxyl ions, or electrons, are alkaline. Foods saturated with hydrogen ions, or protons, are acidic. In this way, the pH scale is also a measurement of the electrical energy in food or drink. Alkaline foods are full of electrons or electrical energy. Electrons are, in fact, what make them alkaline. This is the energy the body runs on. You can measure it, as I do, with an alkaline electron meter. Alkaline foods provide electron energy to the body; acidic foods pull electron energy from the body. It’s not much different, at heart, from batteries: New alkaline batteries are full of energy-they are saturated with electrons. Dead batteries have been drained of electrons, and they are acidic-saturated with protons. Among many other things, electrons aid in digestion. Electrons or alkaline compounds are called upon to buffer the enzymes or acids of the food. Whatever the acids or enzymes within the food, the body will release alkaline compounds or electrons to buffer them. The lower the acidity of the food, the fewer alkaline buffers or electrons are required. The fewer that are required, the more the alkaline reserves and energy of the body are preserved. The conservation of all that potential, then, provides a boost in your overall energy. The body can make more alkaline buffers and provide more electrons or electrical energy, instead, for use by organs and tissues carrying on their metabolic functions, and to provide repairs associated with environmental, dietary, and/ or metabolic acid or mycotoxic damage.” - The pH Miracle: Balance Your Diet, Reclaim Your Health by Robert O. Young, Shelley Redford Young
