Thank you Dr. Davis for this valuable information. I’ve been on Synthroid for 16 years and I was just contemplating changing it to generic to avoid paying $48 a month. This will help me reduce it to half the price. Thank you!
Same ! Plus, the doctors office accidently gave me a dose of 25 mcg instead of 112mcg and I now have to buy another 3 month supply of the right dose for another 147 ! I didn't notice till a few days in that I wasn't feeling right. So I checked my dose. It is way less than half the dose ! That's a lot of money
Hi Dr. I have hypothyroidism. I was on 100mcg of Synthroid and then switched to 100mcg of Levothyroxine to help save money. I don't feel nearly as well on the Levothyroxine and asked my doctor to switch me back to the Synthroid. He said, "It's the same thing". I explained that I don't feel as good on the Levothyroxine ( even less energy, muscle spasms, difficulty sleeping), and asked his assistant to make the request for me again. I haven't heard back yet. I honestly didn't expect any issues with my doctor switching me back. Even after describing my symptoms on the Levothyroxine, he said, "It's the same thing". Now I'm wondering if I should find a new doctor. Number one, literature I've read says they are not the same drug...active ingredients are, but different inactive ingredients which some patients don't respond well to...like me. How , as a doctor, is he not aware of this? Number two, I have told him I feel worse on Levothyroxine. I would think that a doctor would want to do everything in his or her power to make their patient feel better? So either he doesn't care? Or doesn't believe me? My confidence in him now has really been shaken. Your thoughts ?
Change Doctors. I wasted years on Levothyroxine. It was like I was on nothing. Dr gave me Synthroid and I notice a difference within days. With Synthroid I feel like I'm being treated for my thyroid. My Doctor gave me no problem when I asked to get the Synthroid brand.
Hi Dr. Davis! I have insurance with Kaiser and they only cover the generic brand of Synthroid so I’ve been having to pay out of pocket for brand name. Which has most definitely been more than $25/month 🥺 I’ve tried going to the Synthroid website for discounts with no luck.
