@@williamsclara4784 I have a 13cm fibroid and the only option presented to me was an abdominal myomectomy. My procedure is scheduled for 7/22. I'm terrified at the thought of the surgery and the large scar that will come with it. I feel like if my fibroid we're smaller they could maybe do a laparoscopic myomectomy instead. What was done to shrink your fibroid, if you don't mind me asking?
I got diagnosed with fibroids. I had one that was 8cm. I used to bleed for 14 days straight heavy with blood clots the size of a golf balls. Would wear 2 pads and change every hour and still would bleed through. This caused me to be anemic. Would loose so much blood that i would get dizzy and collapse sometimes. Had to make a decision and finally went with a laparoscopy myomectomy. Best decision ever.
I'm right there now except my fibroids are two 15cm, two 4cm and multiple smaller ones all around my uterus. I just met with my OBGYN about getting the surgery in September. I feel you on the heavy bleeding. I currently have two periods a month, bleeding around 10-12 days each. It's a struggle and people don't understand why I'm always tired.
I just had a hysterectomy and just wanted my fibroids out and the doctor said the same thing this doctor is saying, they don’t like doing fibroid surgery any more, they love doing a hysterectomy because I have multiple fibroids and a cyst on my ovaries and it had to be done they took my uterus, Fallopian tubes, and my endometrium. I had to I was losing to much blood and my surgery was a success !
@@whatchamacallit70 that was my concern and the reason I noped out of any type of surgical procedure: my doc refused me hormones before, what if she then refused to prescribe them afterwards? I keep hoping to hear more about the purpose that fibroids serve in the body, but it just mostly the same ol party line
@@dixiechampagne2892 I had a fibroid embolization done to shrink my fibroids. It was the best thing I did and minimally invasive. Being that I am in my late forties I started having premenopausal symptoms and my doctor put me on a low dose testosterone therapy because I was also low on testosterone. It was the best thing I ever did for myself. The benefits outweigh the risk. Nowadays they use bio identical hormones which means they are compatible with our bodies and don’t cause cancer.Back in our grandparents time the hormones they prescribed for women came from animals and they did cause cancer. If you need to be on estrogen then there is a low chance for cancer. What doesn’t cause cancer these days? Every medication we put in our bodies has side effects and some of those side effects can be lethal. Personally I am a huge advocate for hormone therapy and it’s just a matter of finding a doctor that specializes in it.
Such an informative video. Way more than my gynecologist told me when they found a 22mm x 27mm fibroid. They didn’t even tell me, they just said everything was fine, and sent me on my way. 2 years later, I pulled my record out to share with someone else and found out I had this. Now searching for answers.

I've found no good resources for what happens to my fibroids post-menopause. They say you don't pass fibroids, and that's bullshit, I've got quite a little collection going in jars with alcohol/glycol solution (I'll post something once i feel better). Everybody wanting to sell a surgery, but can't seem to do any better than scare tactics

I had ablation, it did not help one bit, two weeks after the procedure (D&C followed by Novasure), I was having a normal Heavy, Painful period. In two days I am having a TAHBSO with repairs for my Rectocele and Cystocele. I'm excited and can't wait. At 55 years of age, I'm tired of having painful heavy periods (been having them since 1989). Same here, My doctor was actually trying to discourage me from suggesting myomectomy and stated that hysterectomy was the only best option. I watched this video again. This doctor is advocating for hysterectomy because that's the procedure that he is well-versed in. At least he's not the doctor who gives you hysterectomy as your only option although he presents it as your best option. Hysterectomy should really be your last option if you want to conceive obviously. There are doctors who have removed over 50 fibroids at the same time through a myomectomy so myomectomies are not just done if you have one large fibroid. Get a second, third, or fifth opinion if you are ever given a hysterectomy as your best or only option. Unless of course you want a hysterectomy.
For many years I had extremely heavy periods and ocassionly had severe pain in the R side of abdomin. I begged for a hysterectomy. No way would that happen for another 20 years. The pain continued until I couldn’t bend without pain. I started having kidney infections continuously. The urologist had my ct results. There were 3 fibroids the size of large grapefruits! There were to many small ones to count!! The gynecologist saw no need for surgery!! WTF By this time I had a meltdown in his office. So after surgery I was labeled as someone who had procedures just to get pain meds!! This DR couldn’t tell me how many fibroids he removed. He said he concentrated on the largest ones. I’m sure I’m not the only person this has happened to.
He clearly stated that there are surgeons who do remove multiple fibroids and do a good job at it. There is no guarantee after a myomectomy that new fibroids won't grow in their place. The definitive solution for problematic fibroids is hysterectomy. Still though, as this doctor stated, you should do your own research and discuss with your doctor what the best solution for you is.

You can also have a hysteroscopy myomectomy for fibroids within the uterine cavity & the fibroids aren't extremely large. I'm having this done next week.
