LOL well I am not really getting rid of any but I do have a few pieces that we bought to send you. Sorry that has been a while back but we have had a lot of stuff going on and hope to send it soon.
I can’t blame you for that, and I’m not getting rid of any, either! I know you guys have a lot going on these days, so don’t worry about anything, bud!
My 83 year old dad just finished building himself brand new raised beds. He gardens every year and cans what he grows. Works in his wood shop (a garage that he built within the last few years) often. Does most home repairs and all remodeling in my parent’s home. OH YEAH, and he cooks in cast iron every day!
I don't know about you but, every time I go to my nurse practitioner to get my prescription renewed, she orders me a blood test. It costs hundreds of dollars so, I do read it. My iron level is fine. I'm going to steal from Willie Nelson and say, there's more old cast iron users than there is old doctors so lets cook on.
Hey Mike.......as far as I see from Dr. Gundry he is out to make $$$$....... if not he'd be retired.....or REALLY helping people at his office. I can smell his BS from here in FL. Everyone keep your cast iron and enjoy life!
Dr Gundry is a TOP NOTCH world class surgeon and dietician, HOWEVER!!! NOBODY gets everything right, we’re ALL fallible, I’ll give him this..when he’s RIGHT he’s RIGHT and when he’s WRONG, he’s WRONG😂😂😂 …HE GOT THIS ONE WRONG!!!!
Yeah, none of us are perfect, but coming from someone who has been hammered for something I said or did wrong, when you put it out there, you’re an open target!
Mike, I am on your side. I will be keeping and continuing to use all my castiron. My grandparents used it every day, and they both lived to almost 90. I had some blood work done a few months ago, and no elevated iron levels for me. Great video.
@@cynthiawesley2318just threw out all my stargazer, butterpats, smitheys, BSR’s, lodges, ALL OF IT GONE….BBTW, I got this bridge for sale in the middle of the desert..
My Dad lived to 94. Went right through the Second World War, survived Nazi dive-bombers in the Royal Navy and lived life to the full afterwards. If he wanted bacon and eggs that's what he ate. He ate in moderation home cooked food. The fat he ate was largely natural and he was thin as a rake. Admittedly he ate the odd processed food but not extensively and much of it was in cast iron pans. In my opinion comparing a cast Iron pan to other non stick pans is rather like comparing unprocessed to processed food.
Wow! That’s cool, Michael! God bless your daddy, and we thank him for his service! My dad, too, was in WWII. I sure appreciate you taking the time to share this with us my friend! Merry Christmas!
This is the same doctor that says even "all natural" peanut butter and all eggs are bad for you. When he attacked eggs, I kinda started getting on the fence with this guy. But when he went after my "all natural" peanut butter, I knew right then I was dealing with a "snake oil" doctor trying to sell a program. I'm not surprised one bit that he's going after cast Iron. To keep himself relevant with the RU-vid algorithm, he'll probably claim there's something wrong with cracked peppercorns too. Doctors of his kind are what makes RU-vid sketchy.

I do NOT believe Dr Gundry I get my blood work done every 6 months for a health problem, and I have no issues with my iron levels at all. I also use my cast iron skillets 3 or more times daily. I’d throw away the iPad I’m using right now before my Cast Iron skillet, all mine are special too, my hubby got them for me as gifts, I love them! 🥰👍🏼
I have been using cast iron myself for the last 47 years. Funny how I never have had a chemical profile result that indicates too much iron. Oh, and for the record: My blood profile is cheeked twice a year due to cancer/treatments that I (fortunately) survived…..
Mike I really appreciate your humility and common sense on this. I've worked in the medical field (pharmacy) since 1990, and I feel like I've got a fairly good handle on how chemicals act in the body. I also realize that despite medical professionals being highly educated, they are human beings and their motivations and wisdom vary quite a bit from individual to individual. Like a lot of mass media health experts, Doctor Gundry often speaks with hyperbolic statements to get views, sell books, etc, which in turn affect his bottom. To say that "iron ages you" is absolute balderdash (a word I don't get to use nearly enough). Excess ferrous ions form free hydroxyl radicals that can damage lipids, proteins and nucleic acids, which in turn damage the heart, liver and endocrine system, but (and like my 1st grade teacher, this is a mighty big but) excess ferrous ions are not a problem because most people don't absorb too much iron. Dr. Gundry uses scare tactics to make this sound like it applies to everybody, but it really only applies to folks with hemochromatosis. Now hemochromatosis isn't quite as rare as most folks think, it affects about 1 in 300 people (with a higher incedence amongst folks from Ireland, Scotland and Wales). Anecdotally, I know of 3 other people in my circle of acquaintances that have shared that they have it, and its probably better to get tested for it with a serum iron and ferritin level, and get treatment for it than to throw away your cast iron. I know that you and I have talked about this before, and I think that your video on hemochromatosis is totally reasonable and well thought out, and your general humility is admirable. I probably won't be throwing away my cast iron, or even sending it your way, but I would like to take you and Mrs. Cast Iron out to lunch the next time I'm in Arkansas.
Dr. Gundry has learned to be a very good salesmen selling his products instead of working as an actual doctor operating on people's hearts. I'm sure he's making more money selling his products than he ever did operating on hearts.
I was always taught that if your cast iron is well seasoned it won't deposit any of its iron into the food anymore. This is a piece of cast iron not a tire on a car that wears out with use. If cast iron did that then hundred year old pieces would simply dissolve and vanish right?
Well my daddy has eaten out of cast iron his entire life. He also eats 2 fried eggs and 4 pieces of bacon everyday. He is 92 and I am sure he is going to out last this salesman. Oh I mean Dr. Yeah I will be keeping my Cast Iron and adding to it every chance I get LOL. Good video Mike and as I see from the comments I am not alone in my thinking.
Sorry Mike, "most people" are not iron deficient. Males are almost never iron deficient. Post menopausal women are also not frequently iron deficient. Pre menopausal women may be iron deficient, for obvious reasons. For older men especially, excess iron can lead to strokes and heart attacks. But so can too much bacon grease. I use my cast iron judiciously because that's what works FOR ME.
Too much bacon grease does not lead to strokes or heart attacks, processed oils cause them. Check out the carnivore diet that heals the body. Our mitochondria require animal fat to function optimally. We have been lied to, by the corporate moguls, for profit... I do wonder if vegans/vegetarians can be iron deficient tho.
Boy I'm finna do my stand up comedy. Tkx for leaving me an opening Mr. C.I.😂😂😂 oooook, let's roll Rick D. Mr. CI,,, that fake, looking Dr *Phil Donahue* alreddddy been jacked up by alot of us viewers. We alredddy offered to take on all dummies throw away iron. & lastely, next he'll be trying to convince me & Rick D there's no Santa Clause, Baby New Yr, Easter Bunny, & 4th of July Uncle Sam. How dare yall channel creators. Bhhhhhahahahahaheeeeee🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
will continue with my castirons, sir as you've said it, these pans have been used for eons and continue to be use these present days... BUT probably, the good doctor might have a lead on those who are not using cast iron, maybe these people's ages are centuries old
Gee , I wonder why Geritol was a major sponsorship of the Lawrence Welk show ? It was a remedy for iron poor blood . And many more people cooked with cast iron then than now . 😮
Mike I agree with the doctor. Griswold and Martin are the worst but any early 1900s cast iron isn't good. We are concerned for your well being so we at the risk of our own health will handle it in the appropriate manner. You won't even have to pay us, consider it a public service. If the amount of iron I get from skillets could be shoved up a gnat's butt it would look like a BB in a box car. I dare say the food inside the skillet is far more deadly with chemicals than the skillet. Some people need their 15 minutes of fame and this is how he gets his.
Gundry, brought to you by the companies that import pot metal crap from Red China containing who knows what alloys. Made in USA cast iron for me if you please. Good video, new sub.
50% of all doctors graduated in the bottom half of their class. Iron poor blood is a lot more common than excess iron. Thank you for the video, Mike. Stay safe and stay warm
I immediately skip through every one of his commercial videos, as I don't have faith in the type of blanket statements he makes. We are not a one size fits all world, and some folks may benefit from a bit of extra iron. But maybe I'll just find some fantastic cast iron pans at the thrift store thanks to him😂😊
Hello from Russia. Its difficults for a lot of people to get iron due to price of the meat. For example, 1 kilo of pork (back) - 4$. Pork belly - 3$. Full broiler chicken - 3 for a kilo( because of problems sanctions thanks for US and EU). Before it was 1.5-2$ and... just regular beef (not any kind of prime and so on) - is about 8-9$ for a back. Thats why there is a problem with iron in blood expeccialy for women. 22% - got it. So cast iron skillet could solve the problem/
