I'm not sure which is sadder, the fact that Penny died because of something Dr. Horrible created, or the fact that she died believing that Captain Hammer would save her.
Captain hammer technically killed her- I kinda wanna write fanfic where Dr horrible makes a reverse switch on his death ray-also why didn't he use the freeze ray while she was still alive, remove it, heal the injuries and then boom, she,s alive- Oh wait I know why and so do you-
@@sophiareetz9807 Captain Hammer is clearly the worse person, but Penny's death is more so Dr Horrible's fault legally and morally. Dr Horrible came to the public event with an untested deadly weapon with the premeditated plan to assassinate Captain Hammer. Captain Hammer was frozen and didn't see that Dr Horrible had clearly changed his mind just before he fought back. The only thing Captain Hammer did wrong in that particular situation was use excessive force (he was going to shoot Billy after he was subdued), but from his and everyone else's perspective, who knows other weapons/tricks the Doc might have even when subdued after crashing the event to kill Hammer. The weapon's potential to cause collateral damage to civilians was also Billy's fault. He made it and choose to bring it to the crowded public event.
@@abigailtoronto9156 It wouldn't have exploded and killed her if Dr Horrible hadn't made it a deadly weapon and brought it to a public events where he started a fight with it.

That's exactly what he was going for. This is a quote from Whedon: Make it dark, make it grim, make it tough, but then for the love of God tell a joke!
I never noticed that. I thought it was just a spin off of Dr. Horrible's theme into his new villain theme. Didn't realise we already heard it earlier when he had his first brush with Horrible.
My teacher suggested this musical to me last year while on a field trip. I hadn't heard a lot of musicals then, but I had forgotten his name (basically I could only remember "Dr. ______ Sing-Along Blog"). I am so thankful for him recommending this for me, it's honestly one of the best musicals I have ever heard. It so perfectly twist comedy and emotion, it's so unreal and underrated. I wish more musicals did things like this, because musicals like these deserve a LOT more recognition. It's so underrated it's insane, this deserves so much more love! I definitely plan on recommending this to other people!!
I love how Dr Horrible takes off the lab coat and noone except Captain Hammer knows who he is. It's like Robbie Rotten from Lazytown, who would put on a pair of glasses and it was like he was a different person
So i feel like a sequel would be time travel cuz the original his main goal is to stop time, so maybe he tried to reverse it idk but sequel yes please!
I have consumed a freaking LOT of media in 32 years, and I can't recall a production that ran the entire gamut of my emotions, from silly to heartbreaking, in an hour of time. Dr. Horrible will always be pure genius.
My girlfriend and I rented this movie from our local store as we adore NPH. Had no idea it was a musical. Got home and watched it, mouths gaping, entranced. Once it was over we looked at each other and decided to watch it again haha. Now we know all the words and still use it for road trip car idol ♥ Fucking amazing!
I cant help but to notice how Penny says `` Keep your head up, Billy buddy.`` at 9:40 during ``Penny's song`` while later on, Billy says, nearly, the same thing at 18:20 during ``Slipping`` ;-;
I know this is old but- that’s actually called a motif! This show uses them very well. A motif is a tune, set of notes, or recurring lyric. The establishing emotion for “head up billy buddy.” Is hope. When doctor horrible uses it has some panic and sadness to it but because of the earlier use of the motif we still have a small moment of hope for him. That’s why the ending hits so hard- because your realize that the hope was false. Almost all of dr Horribles humanity died with penny. Then toward the end of here lies everything we hear a remix of a section form brand new day followed by the stronger section of sling. The we hear “Now the nightmare is real, dr horrible is here.” We know that he’s committed, before he wasn’t really evil, he didn’t have the potential even if he wanted to. but we see his decline. This is our confirmation he really is evil now. Stuff like this is what makes the show so great! If your not a nerd like me who spends it much time picking music apart to see what makes it good you probably never would have noticed the more minor things.
They use the common methods of making people feel uncomfortable, such as two piano notes next to each other making that clashing noise, especially since they brought back the recurring theme in a more clashy, sad, tragic form. It's creepy.
Theory: Billy repeated Penny in Slipping because he calculated the percentage of her dying. As in, he knew how many different outcomes there were. In his most common outcome, he got into the E.L.O.L but that would risk Penny's Life. He chose Penny instead of being in The League BUT when Cap. Hammer shot himself with the 'death' ray/gun, he messed up Billy's outcome of him being happy with Penny and being in the league .
16:05 "Don't worry if it's hard, if you're not a friggin' tard... you will prevail!" I don't know quite what makes this line so amazing, but it absolutely is. ^_^
this is the rap in Brand New Day This appeared as a moral dilemma ‘cause at first It was weird though I swore to eliminate the worst Of the plague that devoured humanity it’s true I was vague on the “how” - so how can it be that you Have shown me the light this is the next one All the time that you beat me unconscious I forgive All the crimes incomplete - listen, honestly I’ll live Mr. Cool, Mr. Right, Mr. Know-It-All is through Now the future’s so bright and I owe it all to you Who showed me the light
The hilarious part? I watched this yesterday (for probably the 100th time) and started wondering if a soundtrack could be found. Lo and behold! Finally, the RU-vid algorithm finally does some good. Thanks much for this!
No they aren't. #2 is Jed Whedon who co-wrote Dr. Horrible with Joss Weadon (his brother) and Maurissa Tancharoen (groupie #1). The other two Bad Horse singers are unrelated.
I bought the CD, and I bought the DVD, when it first came out, which is huge, for me. How often do I love something THAT MUCH? Bad Horse cracks me up. Captain Hammer is horrible, worse than Dr. Horrible, but he's hilarious and it's all over the top, and so ridiculous how could I not love it? The Whedon Brothers. Pure genius.
Oh and I just noticed in Act II, when Penny sings in the Laundromat, she is dressed as Snow White. i think it adds another quality to her character & story. Watch it & see if u notice her colors & ratios of said colors in her dress- Snow White, ya?
believe it or not (i do) Felicia claimed L.Day clothes came from her closet, and she kept 'em. breaking ps: on jan 26 '17 she welcomed newborn Calliope Maeve Day, ~year later seen here (allegedly).. superbhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Felicia-Days-daughter-Calliope-Maeve.jpg
Cora Black Did... did you just reference two deaths from two different things Joss Whedon worked on? Two things- First: how dare you Second: how dare you
omg during brand new day when he says "I'm going to show that horse" I always thought Dr was calling captain hammer a horse not taking about bad horse xD
Why is bad horse the leader of the evil league of evil, he is just a horse. How can a horse be more menacing and evil than an evil villain like Dr Horrible?
Because he is Bad. He is not your regular run-of-the-mill horse. He is the kind of horse that will cut off head of some random guy and put it next to your pillow while you sleep. And he will do that with only hooves. Thats how Bad he is!
since you have Lin-Manuel Mirada as your profile pic I think you'd like to know(if you don't already) that lin's a big fan of doctor horrible thenotoriousscuttlecliff.tumblr.com/post/135211647084/whedonesque-when-one-fan-asked-whedon-who-he
another theory: at the end of everything you ever, Billy kills himself over the loss of penny. "And i wont feel, " then tune is silent (i thought it was gun shot, " a thing."
Man, I love this musical! In A Man's Gotta Do What A Man's Gotta Do I loved the part where he was like " I stopped the van, the remote was in my hand! " Idk it just got me I think my favorite is going to have to be Slipping though, even if Everything You Ever crushed me. But like, most of these songs are my favorites sooo
You mean, "My Freeze Ray?" That one was great, but my personal favorites are "My Eyes" (beautiful duet) and "Brand New Day" (amazing theme, lyrics, and visuals).
This reminded of me when me and my mom watched it lol I always cracked up at some of the parts I miss this movie and I love the person who plays as Dr. Horrible😊😊😊
its a surprising twist that penny died.... but i find that i didn't even like penny. she was like idiot number one. I liked the movie a lot, though. and I REALLY like the music! I found that in this soundtrack they skip some parts of songs by accident, like at the beginning. I watched this thing like 20 times in a row now!
Uh... Spoiler alert! Salt Lake CIty's Comic Convention leaders (and the Screen Actors Guilds' attornies) allow a private group to show this film as a charity fundraiser every year. Last night, there were a few hundred folks, including my guest, who had never heard of it before! Like other great, silly films (e.g. Attack of the Killer Tomatoes & Monty Python and the Holy Grail), the end isn't great, but the trip there is awesome! If you've never heard 1000 people, many in cosplay, sing "My Freeze Ray," or "Bad Horse Chorus" in full-voiced, multipart harmony, you have been missing something special!
