In this video filmed in May 2024, at the NLP Academy’s Emergent ‘New Code NLP and International Coaching Course' an audience member asked John about implementing ecology filters.
Those experienced in NLP will be aware the notion of an ecology filter is where an agreement is made with the unconscious that the new choices (from the intervention) are ecological for the client. The set-up of the filter can have different forms as is explained in the video.
Now, of course, the ‘unconscious mind’ and ‘ecology filter’ are both metaphors for unconscious processes, the former being a metaphor for the entire set of unconscious processes and the latter being a metaphor for a subset of unconscious processes relevant to ecology in the specific context of application where the change is desired.
The question from the audience member came immediately after three on-stage demos.

There was a comment on this video yesterday, where the subscriber asked why John did not use the word 'feeling' instead of 'synaesthesia'. The comment has since been deleted by its originator, perhaps he answered his own question. In case anyone else has the same question here is our reply. Dear Mark The most likely reason John Grinder uses the term synaesthesia in this video is because he is explaining the experience of two modalities being expressed simultaneously, known as synaesthesia in NLP. Feeling denotes the modality of kinaesthetic which of course is present, but in John’s example there is an accompanying modality attached to the feeling. To delete linguistically the accompaniment and refer to the experiences only as a feeling would be an incorrect description and defeat the purpose of the this part of the lecture which was to explain synaesthesia (as the term is applied in NLP) to the class.
