After going through this conversation, you realize that not only politicians are agents for a new Zimbabwe, everyone has a role to play in their corner. The role of the church is well-explained. Trevor, a quality conversation right there. Thank you.

Why is Zimbabwe in the state that it is in with such insightful minds amongst us? It reveals the extent of the rot. Undoing the mess that we are in is going to be a long term project but these conversations are a start. Thank you for feeding our minds Trevor.

This is a very thought provoking conversation. Every reasonable Zimbabwean wants genuine transformation and healing as a way forward. Unfortunately there are a few individuals who feel entitled to rule forever! Which is not an issue as long as the nation agrees and is valued and respected and have equal opportunity to live in peace and harmony and have equal opportunity and access to the country’s resources. Personally it’s about allowing space for people to feel safe and secure in their own country. Space to develop and grow based on your skills and abilities. Equal access to good health, education and food. Acknowledging that every Zimbabwean life matters regardless of political affiliations, race, gender or sexuality.

Rev Dr I agree with you 100% that our problems started off from 1980. Infact, the people who took office soon after independence and that are in charge of key institutions today need healing I am convinced they suffer from PTSD. Some of the decisions they take can only be a result of sickness.

The church has always been active in liberation efforts. Many aspiring freedom fighters were assisted by the church to cross over to where they could get training. Even the transition to independence was facilitated by church organisations helping former liberation cadres through provisions and medical assistance. Bishop Desmond Tutu is a case in point.

Being a Shona,born by both parents from Mashonaland East and West (father from Goromonzi and mother from Mhondoro),I want to appreciate how the Ndebele clan are well constructed,in their own respect,compared to my fellow Shonas.With that being said,we can't ignore the fact that history has an impact in all our lives,that's why we always reflect on it to shape our future.As we all know and talk about the slave trade,the colonisation of Africa and also the Holocaust...we have to recognise two issues in our lives that will always be an issue and that's how Zimbabwe was shaped in terms of our two main tribes,the Shona and Ndebele.If we want to progress,we can't ignore the Lobengula issue and remember the Gukurahundi issue.Those are two important incidents that haunt us both and until we can accept that it was wrong,we will continue to be divided.I have Ndebele friends that torment me about the Guruhundi but can't acknowledge the bad that was done by the Ndebele tribe,which hurts me as I shall tell my children and grandchildren...which is the same with the Ndebele tribe.So,until we can agree to settle these issues and not laugh about the other ,whilst we take the other seriously,I don't think we can move further on.Having said that,I'm one of those Shona people who want to see our country progress and we work together as one country because this divide will only benefit the foreigners and make fools of us.Another issue is as Zimbabweans,we need to start to accept that we have issues and admitting that we have problems,is the first step towards progress.You may agree or disagree with me on what I said and I would appreciate everyone's opinion and also be educated on such matters.Thank you for bringing in guests with a vision to push us to a better future of our children and grandchildren.Let's work together.

Very profound Rev Dr. By concluding that elections will not solve the crisis Zimbabwe what are we saying? What precedence are we setting for the future generations? Infact, can we really say elections have not solved the crisis in Zimbabwe? Or its sham elections that have led us to this point. Sham because the people in charge of the process have always been biased. Further to this, the constitution we adopted in 2013 has not been fully implemented and we are already saying its not working, why not implement it fully and see where exactly its not working then talk of adjustments.
@johnone6159
@johnone6159 4 года назад
The process of elections is one of the main problems in democracies. They inhibit economic or progress at times at administrations become populist towards rather than make tough policies towards elections. Don't also forget the problem of foreigners meddling in a country's election consider the case of Russia and Trump.
@nyati_imhenyu
@nyati_imhenyu 4 года назад
John One that is an extreme case you mention. Election processes in a democracy such as Zimbabwe are a problem when they have been abused for a very long time. Mugabe stayed in power for way too long. Zanu PF eventually started abusing the election system in their favour because they had been in power for too long. Just look at the arrogance and the impunity at which they claim the top seat to be their alone and only alone. With time, the monster it created will be dismantled.
@johnone6159
@johnone6159 4 года назад
Percy Tiri Chipunza it is definitely an extreme case but it's not unique. I'm sure you're aware of the type of policies politicians implement a year or before elections. That behaviour keeps progress in a series of 5 yr loops as politicians reverse on prior year progress just to win elections

It is good to know there are leaders who stand for something and are brave to speak truth to power. It however seems he keeps mixing up the meaning of State and Government, and am bit concerned this has had an impact on how he interprets the scriptures and how he engages with the current ZanuPF government (regime)

In history,we observe and study a lot about other tribes...for example it United Kingdom,we can realise that the English,Welsh,Scottish and Irish didn't get along and still don't up to now,but for the sake of their nation ,they have made arrangements and also recognise each battle they fought...so I find it arrogant for the Ndebele tribe to think that the Shona tribe should not talk about Lobengula and what he did to them,but be serious about how the Shona,who in actual fact were not alone in the atrocity that happened in Gukurahundi,should be held accountable.I find it ridiculous how the guest and also Trevor arrogantly, ignorantly and sarcastically reacted to that matter.My great grandfather told me how he lost his cattle and children to Lobengula,so if we can take it personally,I can go that far.We need to recognise all the bad that was done,from that era to the Gukurahundi...and when we do that,we can all heal and move forward.

I have a view that the state is the people or the population and the permanent institutions that serve the population. That government is an institution formed by the elected party which the right to run the state after winning elections. I understand that autocratic governments usurp or capture the state and use it forvtheir own vested interests, hence we have Zimbabwe today.

So the church right now thinks what is happening in Zimbabwe is okay for them not to say they can no longer recognise.This just goes to show how much he is trying to stay on the safe passage in fear of his life.We saw what happened to one of the guys who was interviewed on this platform previously.

The Lancaster House agreement was an agreement which the British also did not fulfil...Are you forgetting that Tony Blair said he did not recognize it as it was done between the Conservative party and not Labour party...Why don't you clarify that issue,which led to our then government to act up,after being given 10 years.I feel this is a tribal issue were we have to go back to only Gukurahundi but we can't talk about how Lobengula used to come to the land of the Shona and other tribes,stealing,killing and raping our women.That's the past we also need to revisit and it feels like what happened before white people came,has to be ignored.You acting like white people who think slavery and colonisation was okay...Let's revisit history and we can talk.I feel this reverend is biased and he has some personal issues,which most of us seem to have.We need to be neutral..and I have noticed that most of the guests Trevor interviews who have a Ndebele background tend to be spiteful.I agree that Zimbabweans should be fluent in Shona and Ndebele,including white people.

You are on course Trevor...yes the start of a long, long..I mean long journey of recovery....Heres what Zim needs:...Honest,empathetic engagement of the common person aggrieved by our untidy historicity from Mfecane to the present... Good people we dont need all the officialdom, ...commissions of inquiry- hopelessly expensive and choreographed....No point renaming regions ....just treatment of EVERYONE right and celebrate the greatness of MaNyika...BaVenda...MaZezuru...MaTshangani...MaKaranga...BuKalanga.... We need honesty, sincerity.Listening to EVERYONE...then we can begin to heal. WE HAVE SUCH BAGGAGE we need to fix without the help of outsiders even.SIMPLE.

Trevor this thing of making it compulsory to know 3 languages is not ideal you will be putting the last nail to us Ndebeles just because its been 40years after independence but 99percent of people in Harare still cant speak Ndebele which is why you see them even struggling to survive in jhb because of ignorance that they had in Zimbabwe that we cant speak Ndebele,And I dont think I will ever let or allow my kids to speak that Harare language in my house ,IF the president himself cannot speak Ndebele or any language of Matebeleland then u must forget about us speaking his shit language
