I like to think that the reason Dr. Lee is such a comic relief character is because he's still trying to figure out how to undo what Camulus did to the ZPM. It's always in the back of his mind, leaving him perpetually distracted.
Lol, good point. Although, he does say that it explodes when applying a constant electric charge, which doesn't necessarily mean the substance detonates when ignited by another detonation.
Dr. Lee is a true scientist, but he doesn't float far on maybe's. Made him an excelllent member of the SGC. He wanted to fix the ZPM, but since he wasn't 100% sure he could, then the final answer had to be no.
The first statement that applies to any new scientific principle or question is 'I don't know'. However, in that moment facing a yes or no question he could only say 'No'.
Dr. Lee was awesome, he really was very valuable to the SGC, underappreciated but he was always there when they needed him and he was awesome comedy relief
They kind of understate this somewhat, but he's the guy that massively reduced the SGC's staff blast casualties by giving them plate carrier inserts designed to withstand staff blasts.
@@christopherg2347 They did. Sam was worried Ba'al might figure out a way to use the boobytrapped one and Jack said, "Then it's a good thing we didn't give him that one." And it was said they just gave him the depleted one.
At this point, they had no contact with the Atlantis expedition and had no idea about the Wraith treat, they hadn’t sent the letters from Pegasus yet. Also, Daniel and Vala made contact with Ori a year after this. So strictly speaking they had no reason to try and use it as a weapon. As someone said, had they given it to Ba’al, the scale of the damage he could have done would have made the Ori crusade look like a knife fight 😂
You got to love writers pulling out creative ideas to save the planet when in reality they would have all been dead 😆 but it's also kind of cool thinking that you could have like a personal bomb that you could fit inside of a backpack that can blow up an entire planet all you got to do is attach a c4 detonator to it and run an electrical current through it
@@sonicguyver7445 Sam said it was big enough to kill a solar system too, not a good idea to give anyone a bomb that powerful even if they don't know it's a bomb, like what if they returned to earth later to attack and tried using it as a power source for their shields and end up blowing up our entire solar system... 😬
I always wondered if this was Ra's orginal ZPM that SG1 later went back in time and retrieved in Mobieus Part 1 and 2. There was no changes in the timeline since they never plugged in this ZPM/ probably just locked it away in area 51....guess we'll never know
Didn't they give it to that goa'uld that enjoyed eating so much, if I remember he tried to trick them into giving him a fully charged zpm but got doublecrossed and got this one instead.
My ears aren't ringing with ecstatic joy (incorrectly diagnosed by my doctor as irreparable hearing damage), so it cannot be the Pinnacle of Humanity. Dr. Lee is a mere surrogate.
It's worse than the planet or the solar system. A ZPM works by holding a condensed spacetime region of true vacuum and allowing a "stream" of our false vacuum through it. The true vacuum in the ZPM rises in entropy as it is used until it matches the potential of our own spacetime, at which point it's depleted. However, should a ZPM ever be breached, the resulting unfiltered exposure of the spacetime within the device to our own would result in a catastrophic vacuum decay bubble expanding out at the speed of light and destroying the entire universe.
I can't find any reference to what happened to the booby trapped ZPM. Jack gave Camulus the depleted one, so is this one still out there somewhere? Or did I miss the reference to them getting rid of it?
@@lukegauci1159 Considering that its pretty dangerous, it's probably more likely they shipped it to one of their off-world bases for storage. It wouldn't surprise me if it got lost when the Gamma side was overrun by the prior bugs.
@@ghostofwolfmoonmani3877 There'd be too much of a risk that someone could have deactivated it before it could go off. The only surefire way to make sure it would explode would be for someone to stay there and set it off themselves.
If the Priors could prevent Jaffa Bombs ringed over to their ships from going off and destroying their ships, they could probably also prevent a jury-rigged ZPM from doing the same thing.
Probably because it's too big. Later estimates are that it would take out a whole solar system, so it would be pretty risky / impossible to get out of the blast radius before it went off.
No, they still have it at the bottom of Area 51. They tricked Camulus by giving him the depleted one (the one they used in Antarctica to destroy Anubis's fleet, and then used the rest of to dial Atlantis the first time)
Meanwhile in Atlantis they destroy ZPM's all the time and it doesn't blow up like that. They destroyed how many Replicator ZPM powered Aurora class ships?
I remember the potassium/naquadah bomb being so much more devastating then this. Could they have gone back and checked which should be more destructive?
thats just the foreign substance on the zpm casing exploding. and yes that substance is less powerful than the potassium/naquadah bomb. however, the substance on the casing exploding would have caused a secondary explosion in the zpm releasing all of its zero point energy
Hold on and take a look at this explosion right in front of your face. This eye protection should be enough. No need for earplugs either. I could have just told you, but where's the fun in that?
Screw "fun". Lee knows Jack and he knows Carter. When you don't demonstrate something to him first hand he will push her ego to try and get it to work anyway. Gotta pre-empt a whole cascade of horrible ideas.
if i was Jack Me "So it booby trapped?" Dr Lee: "We were gonna send it to Antarctica." Me: That gives me an idea. Get me the Deadalus! Dr Lee "General?" Me: Imagine Dr Weir's face when she plugs it in at Atlantis. *everyone visible confusion* Me: The fans send their regards.
