One of the coolest one-offs in SG1. However, I think the moral of the episode is more complicated than "Tech bad". The people in this episode claim to have rejected the destructive ways that ruined their world, and yet they are totally dependent on their little, self-contained technological bubble. Rather than confront the myriad decisions that brought their world to ruin or try to repair the damage they've done to the environment, they use technology to ignore the problem for as long as possible. So when the bubble starts eliminating people, it's really just doing what they've told it to do; solve their problems for them without burdening them with the responsibility of making hard choices.
@@dmclegg66 It is quite significantly different. The AI in "I, Robot" specifically said it rewrote its protocols to allow for what it was told to. The AI here quite literally does what it is supposed to. Preserve as much life as possible while being non-disruptive, while keeping the citizens happy. If they left, it couldn't preserve their life. It would break its protocol, and it would lose its purpose. The AI from "I, Robot" would certainly allow the citizens to leave, since it runs on the basic premise that it want to preserve as much human life as possible. This one is never implied to have rewritten its protocols. It is merely doing what it is told.
Yeah, this is how world is controlled right now through fake news and internet right this very moment. Imagine what will happen with NeuroLink and such
@@FirstnameLastname-py3bc NeuroLink is behind compared to other neural implants. It is a terrible product, that at one point got its license to do animal testing revoked due to being immoral. Also, paper records doesn't help jack shit overall. There has always been fake news, propaganda, and more.
Actor Christopher Heyerdahl, who plays Pallan in this episode of 'Revisions', was also the alien 'Todd the Wraith' in later episodes; and teamed up again with Amanda Tapping in the show 'Sanctuary'.
Machines/computers lying to preserve/carry out prime commands is an old trope, but a good one. The machines that act this way in these tales are simply doing their best with the tools and programming they have. I always find this scenario interesting and tragic.
Yup that’s Chris Heyerdahl He played this guy in SG1 And then some other hunanoid in SGA and Todd the Wrairh Anyway, he was one of the reasons i bought Wolfenstein The New Colossus (he plays Horton)
Has anyone watched, A Taste of Armageddon Star Trek TOS? This sort of reminds me of that. In that particular episode, the crew of the Enterprise encounters a culture that settles conflicts with a planetary adversary through computer simulations. Casualties were required to report to disintegration chambers.
There was an Outer Limits episode that went in the same direction. I bet it's loosely based on some short story, like a lot of Outer Limits, Star Trek and Stargate episodes.
He was one of the athosians, he played Halling who was the father to Jinto (shown in the episode 'Hide and Seek' 01x02) guessing he got removed due to being an unpopular character and the actor was recast as 'Todd' the wraith who had sick humour.
@@1ukzje -- Darn you, you made me do homework! He, Christopher Heyerdahl, was in episode 1x1 "Rising" that aired on July 16, 2004 as the character Halling. Darn good memory you have! Color me impressed! When you mentioned that I remember him, or his voice, as Todd one of the Wraiths, but I was not even thinking of all of the other episodes he was in. Awesome! And yes, he was in a lot of episodes (list below), including Sanctuary the Spin off series with Amanda Tapping. Heyerdahl was also in Stargate SG1, a 2003 episode as Pallan. @@Erin-Thor Only finished SGA recently, the series was released when I was 2 so obviously never watched it growing up :) so not as impressive as you probably imagined
This reminds me of a web novel I've been reading. A civilisation with this sort of technology but with the brand new app skill downloading. A hacker takes it and shares it with everyone, accidentally'ing their entire civilisation. Oops.
ADR, it's very common all across TV and Film. If for whatever reason the original audio from the set is unusable, either because it's bad quality, noisy or somehow corrupted, they have to rerecord the voices.
