With infections, what is the most difficult part is - you cannot measure it very well because if you [look at] the IgG or IgM antibodies, you can lower IgM antibodies, so you think that this infection is not going on but then you don’t know how long the treatment should last.
And I would say that using the Cunningham Panel - you can see all those antibodies which allow you to tell whether this child still needs prolonged treatment or maybe it’s time to stop. And this is a major answer to me as a doctor. Continue or not? Am I helping with my protocol or not?
Since you can only measure some parameters with these viruses and bacteria, you are never sure if they are gone forever or if there is still something that stops the child from proper development and I think that’s why the Cunningham Panel is so important.
Many patients are just afraid of treatments. Recently, I had a patient who had OCD and it was very difficult for parents to understand that they have to undertake treatment. And the Cunningham Panel helped them to understand that they need to go on with antibiotics and anti-virals.
And sometimes for parents it’s like, “Yes, we understand now. With these antibodies we have this set of behavior. We understand now that there is ongoing inflammation.”
