Dr. Mary John, Senior Fellow at Centre for Women's Development Studies, discusses the concept of Intersectionality and its usefulness in Indian context.
But all the examples Mary John gives of social reform for gender is dominant caste based..in India also the history of feminist movement is led by oppressed caste women..intersectionality is the theory developed by kimberley crenshaw in 1980s to talk about specifically how black women had to show legally through 3 cases that they were either in the category "women" or in the category "black" and so intersectionality is used by her to talk about compounded discriminations that individuals and groups face.
