I can remember life before plastic wrapping. Butchers would cut meat to your order, then wrap it in paper. Grocery items came in tins, bottles, cardboard, and waxed or plain paper. Water bags were made from jute and hung in the shade. Cooking oils non-existent, we used butter or rendered animal fat for home cooking. Only fish and chip shops used oil, and families only had such a meal maximum once a week.

In the us back in the day. every thing was lard or tallow fried. So sad most places don't do that anymore. Some do still but it's super rare. Allegedly Popeyes chicken uses tallow? I do at home if i have it. If not, i don't fry anything. Ghee is very good for things like that too.
@fromabove9133
@fromabove9133 6 месяцев назад
Problem with lard or tallow to fry your food commercially nowadays is partially the higher cost but more so the mainstream conditioning that it’s unhealthy which makes it harder to sell.

I went fully carnivore. Within one month my snoring stopped and my sleep apnea completely resolved. I also trained 3 times a week and did cardio twice. These were just two of a long list of things that changed for me. Highly recommend.

Same here. 7 months ago I started meat, egg only carnivore diet and my severe sleep apnea stopped in a month. I was also (after the following 2 weeks) able to wean myself of antidepressants which I had tried unsuccessfully 4 times before. Mental health is so good now. No more meds at all after 6 weeks with all metabolic disorders gone. Was 154kg, now 104kg. HbA1c was 8.7 two years ago when I weighed less, now 5.4 Photos of me before and now are shocking to me. Still learning, particularly about: Sleep (circadian rhythm) Sprinting Seed oils (vegetable oils) Linoleic acid. Love this Dr and his content. Keep it coming Dr;)

This redefining concept of metabolic function as a driver of optimal health should be taught in elementary school. This is a great talk! It’s has great points that’ll open the door for sure. However, metabolic function is very nuanced as are the causes. It’s such a new concept it will be difficult to find providers that understand. It wasn’t until removal of an adrenal that my metabolism started to fully reset. (I can feel the visceral fat melting away.) Do your own homework. The tell will be how the provider answers your informed questions.

@11:02 *The real problem with BMI is that it was never supposed to be used on individuals: it's a population metric, and nothing else. Beyond that, it doesn't differentiate between fat weight and muscle weight.* For example, my BMI is 31.2 "obese," but the US Navy Body Fat Calculator says I'm "fit" -- with an estimated body fat of 14% (of 238 lbs [thus, lean mass of 205 lbs]). As the CDC's website states, "BMI is a screening measure and is not intended to diagnose disease or illness."

Thank you. That's the first time I've heard, or at least understood, artificial lights make us produce cortisol. I knew it affected the sleep cycle but didn't understand why. I sometimes get cortisol spikes during the night (I'm past menopause but it feels like a hot flash/flush out of nowhere) so I'm going to start wearing my blue light blocking glasses (already had them for work but will now use them at home). Very interesting and great to have the scans to see the differences. I was astounded when you said all those in the group had the same BMI.

I've been following the Carnivore diet for about 4 years now, and the RAW Carnivore diet for the last 3 years, that is, I eat raw meat and raw offal in 99 percent of the cases: for example, raw liver (that natural multivitamin!), raw brain marrow, raw bone marrow, raw kidney, etc., and I drink even fresh blood if I can, because it's a "natural energy drink"! I'm a 58-year-old man, but since then I feel like I've "went back in time", i.e. like I'm 30 years old again! Since I switched to this diet (lifestyle... because I want to follow this for as long as I live...), my deep depression has gone (and it was so severe that I constantly contemplated suicide, i.e. this diet probably saved my life!) , I lost about 15 kg, since then my skin doesn't itch, my back doesn't hurt, my bursts of fury are gone, my dreams are more beautiful when I sleep, and in general, my energy skyrocketed and my zest for life has returned! So, as I mentioned it above, I almost always eat raw meat, mostly lamb or cow. Especially the fattier bites from raw meat. I don't use any spices. No salt either. I use (sea) salt only when I very rarely eat cooked meat, this is maybe once a month, not more often, then I cook a whole pig's head, I like it very much. I don't eat anything from the plant kingdom at all, except that sometimes I drink lemon juice, unsweetened, but I also squeeze it myself from fresh lemons, and I regularly drink apple cider vinegar. I also eat eggs, partly raw, partly as fried eggs (frying it in lard or tallow, not in plant or seed oils!). I don't consume carbohydrates at all. BUT I DON'T EVEN WANT TO. I don't crave carbohydrates, sugary food-like creations, artifical food-like concoctions, oversweetened industrial craps, I don't have to resist the cravings with any "will power", because I don't have any cravings for them at all! I love this diet so much that I even wrote a book about it, although not in English, but in my native language, Hungarian. Although it is science fiction, the nutritional principles described in it are correct from the point of view of the carnivore diet. The essence of the story, in short, is that vegans have a planet, it's called Vegania, and a young man who follows the same raw carnivore diet that I follow goes there... everything is set for conflict! The raw English translation of the book is ready, but someone who is a native English speaker should proofread it... Anyway, ever since I changed my eating habits, my slogan has been: "If man-made: DO NOT EAT!" Since then, my hobby is bushcrafting, in general, I have switched to an extreme minimalist lifestyle, I hardly have more stuff than can fit in a large military backpack, on the other hand, I feel much FREER and I am much HAPPIER in every way!

Great that eating raw meat is working for you. Certainly, the vitamins in liver will all be preserved if eaten raw. But something to consider: It has only recently been discovered that our pre-human ancestor hominins were already using fire to cook food - which was mostly meat (dating to around 570k years ago so far). If we compare our jawbones and teeth to carnivores and herbivores, they are rather strange because they don't fit either category, not even like omnivores. The reason becomes obvious now that we know humans have always cooked their food: our teeth and jaws are unique because we are the only species to cook our food. In other words, being able to cook was an integral part of becoming human. We don't need big jaw muscles, allowing the skull to expand and brain size with it.

Would it be a correct list in order of effectiveness to gauge visceral fat: 1. MRI scans - difficult to procure, usually not covered by medical insurance 2. DEXA scan - gives ratio proportion, good approximation 3. Physical circumference and other measures - least effective, yet workable if none of above is possible How accurate are the Body Composition Weighing scales that employ Bioelectrical Impedance (BI) Method of measurement? There are two types, regular 2-point system and the presumable more advanced 4-point system.

In this talk the presenter discussed "seed oils" and linoleic acid. In all the research I've seen on the deleterious effects of seed oils, none have studied non-seed oil linoleic acid. (If you know of any please share the link). We do not know if it's linoleic acid itself or if it's just the seed oil. We may be erroneously conflating the two. Great presentation of a very important topic. Thank you.

Being able to jam your hand under your right rib is a good sign your liver fat and visceral fat isn't enormous. But fine tuning it can be a bit tricky. One thing we do and it seems to help is a dewormer. Once in a while. or general colonic/guts blow out. Gently tho. If you feel sluggish in the guts, keep trying various things. Your stomach should feel just about nothing after a meal. As if you didn't eat. If it bloats or puffs or gas. You may not be eating what works for you. Fasting is a big help to reset. I'm not a dr. Keep on this channel and many other good ones. Dr sean is a visceral fat attacker too.

Calorie counting vs cutting seed oils and sugar flour carbs ... you can be skinny and sick, tho more likely skinny fat with a loss of muscle Excess viscersl fat contributes to insulin resistance, but eating carbs directly tells your body to store fat and makes u hungry , whereas eating protein and fat does not give the hormone signal and instead satiates once your body has enough nutrition from it.
@wocket42
@wocket42 10 месяцев назад
Excessive carbs cause hepatic fat to increase. If this is one way only, increasing only, then you get hepatic insulin resistance. And hepatic insulin resistance is where your metabolic health goes down. Other visceral fat follows. Vice versa, you have to get rid of this visceral fat in the liver to improve your health.
@maxgulhanemd
@maxgulhanemd 10 месяцев назад
Great point. In many ways the presence of visceral fat is a sign that the system is malfunctioning, and correcting the bioenergetics at a mitochondrial level (big emphasis on circadian biology) removes visceral fat. At the same time, visceral fat is metabolically active, secreting pro-inflammatory and pro-thrombotic factors. Quite a chicken and egg problem!

when seed oils entered our diet, how did that change the fat people gained on a molecular level? surely, gaining weight from overeating a low linoleic acid diet... is severly different than gaining weight from highly processed seed oils, the body has no evolutionary idea what it is. I agree with all your points, but, showing an aboriginal person in the picture did make me smile. Maybe you should have shown a picture of a healthy pommy before processed food became a problem in most of the first world.

Great content, I’ve been doing carnivore and fasting for the past month, but gosh I got sick of just meat, I don’t know how people stick to it. I’ve adopted some sauerkraut now and leafy salad and vegetables. The desire to binge is still there though, it was a birthday in the family this weekend and I caved to some baking. I’ll be fasting for 48 hrs at the start of the week and then doing 20/4. Weekends are my weak point. I’d love to get an MRI, but in New Zealand it’s hard to get one, I have insurance but I’m not sure that a specialist would approve an MRI to check my visceral fat or that my insurance company would pay. Does anyone know how to get around it? Oh just heard the end bit🥴

Is that exposure to light infrared or ultraviolet, what light is important. I ask because I'm made ill by UV light, SLE.

Near infrared light, probably. UV-B is (just) for vitamin D (may not be sufficient in winter).

Hi Yvonne light is a critical part of optimal circadian health, including UV light when we have built up a healthy tolerance (solar callus). Check out some of my recent videos on my channel where I discuss this.

This is an important issue for people that need a carnivore hack. I have been without cheating carnivorous for over 3 years... Four years January but there were some cheats in the last year... I still have a 41-in waist. I'm active at the gym a couple times a week, I do yoga a couple times a week, and I have three working line dogs that I take out on hikes on the weekend. It's not activity and it's not my diet. When I had a blood panel done I have significantly high levels of cortisol. I've yet to hear anybody talk about specific ways I can lower my cortisol. I listen to all the low carb down under... Paul Mason did address it with somebody that had a tumor. I do not. My sleep is good overall. So why am I an outlier?

Stop carnivore and your cortisol will return to normal.

If you sunburn super easy should you still only be out in the sun for a short period of time or is sunscreen fine to be out longer?
@lindymerry38

If you eliminate seed oils (including foods with seed oils as an ingredient) from your diet, you should be less prone to sunburn. Tucker Goodrich & many others have experienced this.

Try The Diggers Club. They have charts about what plants are in season.

Work out like a lion - got it! (Heavy lifting?) And don't live north of the arctic circle, not enough sunlight. You will die. This can't possibly be science... /Swedish Carnivore, 63yo

Some time ago we were told kids are getting to puberty sooner because of hormones in foods. Maybe. We understand it a bit more now and it's the whole picture. Many things are impacting it. Our kids are beanpole because of semi-proper diet. Never soda, no dye, reduced sugar, super high animal fats. Fruit, veg and red meat. Fat loaded treats, not candy.

If you're eating a carnivore diet and in your seventies I really don't think you should have to be sprinting down the road every day. You have a very high chance of breaking your ankle.

If you live in a place that doesn't suffer from traffic jams, you can do your "sprinting" on a bike.

Dr lustig would say, "That obese person just needs to eat less move more, no he doesn't" He need to eat for fat burning, not fat storing. Even better just don't eat. Work into it, go slow then hard later on.

Lifestyle is an awful term for a new approach. It was already taken by industry years ago. There was never anything wrong with the word diet. It doesn't necessarily mean low-fat or calorie restriction. Lifestyle, on the other hand, has come to mean willpower, veganism, and eat-less, move-more (high-carb calorie restriction and cardio). A better word would be deprogramming. People simply need to know humans don't need to eat plants, and we are much happier and healthier when we don't.

Water bottles (PET) do not contain BPA! in fact most plastics don't. And even then the case that it leaks into water in relevant amounts was never really made. Many so called endocrine disruptor are about 1-100 million times weaker than estrogen which is another way of saying they are for all intends and purposes inactive.
