Dr. talks about robots becoming self aware, as the tipping point. Self-awareness is nothing about how individuals react in different situations, it varies from individual to individual and most of these traits are learned/acquired by individual in their learning phase (it could be events in childhood, imitating parents,relatives or friends). Once, a trainer decided to teach robots to gain/acquire these traits as well, maybe through RLHF, the day is not far where we can see robots behaving in a self-aware manner (mostly depending upon the situations it has been exposed to in the learning period)

Michio is always so positive. Given what is currently happening, I'll be elated if in 20 years I can still buy vegetables in the market. That's assuming I can still walk there after being irradiated by nuclear fallout. The shit is going to get real this decade. We are running out of cheap energy, the Russian/Ukraine conflict can't end soon enough, the US/China tensions are escalating, and the green transition is a pipe dream.

@@jayabacromby675 I hope I'm wrong as well. We could as a world decide that climate change and loss of biodiversity and destruction of ecosystems is an existential threat to our survival and the survival of most of the planet's life (which it is). If such a global commitment could be reached all nations would agree to cease deforestation immediately. All of the nations must also agree to cease all hostilities. All military resources must be devoted to ecosystem restoration and projects devoted to cooling the planet- painting all roof tops white for example is a simple first step. Assisting people in deurbanization and permaculture expansion- land reform. Assisting scientists in develop and deployment of neg emissions tech. Nationalizing tge petrol industry and using their enormous recent profits to fund MASSIVE TREE PLANTING WORLDWIDE and many other projects- Fe fertilization of oceans. This sounds nuts but without immediate triage on a global scale I'm afraid civilizational collapse is almost certain in a decade or two as serial multiple crop failures will occur. In this event an enormous famine will occur and hostilities will increase. Already there are nations prepared to fight over fresh water resources. Perhaps it will take a world wide famine to wake us all up to...I don't know.

@@filamcouple_teamalleiah8479 I and as I suspect, many, many people agree with what you just wrote. I can remember years, decades ago, the need for the Amazon rain forests to remain untouched. Well we have seen how that went. The imperative of trees is no joking matter. I'm wondering if you read the news about the Earth's shifting on it's axis about 1.5 inches per year between 1993, due to the loss of ground water, and 2010? Nature is telling us all something important, but it seems our leaders, world wide, aren't listening. Do they ever? As if there are actually more important things to worry about. Well, we both know humankind will only act when it is too late. All of our science, is falling on deaf ears. Every nation's self interests only compound the whole's problems. I don't believe that "everybody wants to rule the world," just the wrong ones for the wrong reasons. My wife, and I are philanthropic, but only to the animals. It is they who will suffer the most, through no fault of their own. In the mean time, all the best FilaM.

The world is enough for everyone's need but the world is not enough for everyone's greed! If only the whole of humanity realised that we came from only One source and DNA, that we have 3 common thing in all of us here on earth that bears witness: the air we breath, the water, and our blood and that all these 3 agree as one. We all manage this world properly by uniting all of our intellects, talents and skills, eliminate greed and distribute the wealth equally to all then this world will be a better place to live. We will just use AI and robots as our slave to work for us then all of us will just relax, go to the beach and swim, visit the beautiful places and even gaze for the outer space, sing together or watch concerts of our talented singers, watch sports at the stadium and do merry-making eating together and fellowshipping. What a wonderful world it would be...

I admire Dr. Kaku very much, especially his continually positive attitude in regard to mankind's future. That said, the man NEVER discusses the dark side of technology, especially A.I. As a student of history, my future prediction is 180-degrees the polar opposite of Kaku's rather Pollyanna approach to this topic, and here's why. If history teaches us anything, it is this: Whenever mankind has a major technological breakthrough, what is the VERY FIRST THING we do with it?? We use it to more effectively wage war against our neighbors! This is certainly no secret. When the Chinese invented gunpowder, they didn't just make FIRECRACKERS with it, they used it to make missiles and bombs, and if anyone has just seen the blockbuster film "Oppenheimer" about the man who helped invent the atomic bomb, you already know this to be true. When we first learned how to split the atom, we didn't used it to make a nuclear reactor for peaceful energy use, we immediately used it to MORE EFFECTIVELY KILL PEOPLE. Both Einstein and Robert Oppenheimer lived to regret their decision to move forward with the bomb. That's why I do not share Dr. Kaku's rosy vision of our future. Need more proof?? It's everywhere. How many of you even realize that the internet was originally invented to be a faster way of processing massive amounts of data on the battlefield?? Once again the most powerful tool ever devised by mankind was originally designed to MORE EFFECTIVELY KILL PEOPLE. I doubt if many of you know this, and I hope you pass this little tidbit of knowledge on to your friends and family. In fact, the moment the personal computer was invented, I predicted that this technology would end poorly and here's why, in just one brief sentence. *When mankind's SCIENTIFIC understanding outpaces our SPIRITUAL understanding, the result is always catastrophic... ALWAYS.* In other words, when our ethical and altruistic nature fails to keep pace with our technological prowess, it always ends in chaos and death. Once again, I turn to history for advice. Ancient Rome was once the crowning glory of mankind, existing for over 1,200 years. Their technological advancements are STILL the marvel of the entire world (ever hear of "concrete"? They invented it). Yet in spite of all their intellectual knowledge and power, their reliance on brute strength, terror, and greed was the cause of their downfall. They eventually collapsed into dust, exactly what I'm seeing now, all over the world. The only difference between them and us is that we have the means to do it a TEN MILLION TIMES FASTER, meaning we have very little time on the clock before we begin to see the tiny cracks begin to form, then eventually engulf us.
@tylerdorkin4861
@tylerdorkin4861 10 месяцев назад
Your pretty funny, most advances in technology have caused extended periods of peace after its unveiling. The English with both long bows and revolutionary new ships several times. The generalizations about the fall of Rome being because they were greedy and war like entertained us greatly. The ultimate generalizations list we added you to. I also not believe that Oppenheimer or Einstein regretted their parts in the Manhattan project i believe Dr. Oppenheimer was frustrated that they threw him away by revoking his credentials after giving them. the most powerful weapons of all time. They were both aware that they had saved perhaps 4 million lives between us servicemen snd Japanese aggressors. No one who lived during the cold war would ever be so stupid as to criticize an absolutely necessary bombing of Japan. What he doesn’t tell you and im sure hes aware of is that we have unlimited electricity available for free after they successfully built Teslas greatest plan. It has been coopted by the military but it works the earth is now a giant battery. Anyway no more rewriting of history will be ignored. You make assertions make sure you can prove it.

The lecture was truly captivating, and I appreciate the enthusiasm of the speaker. However, I respectfully hold a slightly different perspective on the proposed definition of consciousness. In my understanding, the ability to predict is predominantly a memory-based skill and may not necessarily be directly linked to consciousness. Neural networks, as we know, heavily rely on extrapolation, and it is intriguing to consider how creatures driven by survival instincts could harness this ability to predict aspects of the future. The concept of predicting the future, in some ways, shares similarities with the mathematical notion of perturbation, where accuracy diminishes as we move away from the origin.

He didn't predict anything. He knew it was because they already started working with AI from 1985 1990. In 2004 AI was available to everyone, only there was not so much fuss. On Sony Ericsson mobile phones, the W850 Walkman model was available AI. If you heard a song somewhere and you didn't know who was singing, you started the program on your phone, let it listen to the song for 3 seconds, and then it answered you with the name of the singer, the year of release, the name of the song, and all the artists who sang the song. The meaning of the term AI shifts with progress. Most of the advancements we had in the 2000s were based on machine learning. Today's LLM's work with neural nets, more like our brain does. Usually after the new achievement (when explainable) the AI just looks like some dumb computer algorithm, like when a computer beat the worlds best chess player, or after DELL's supercomputer became the best Jeopardy player. Now people are saying the new AI's are just prediction machines, however, aren't we prediction machines, too?

Any mortal can understand the meaning of terms related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) such as machine intelligence, machine learning, etc. Our goal is not to explore AI in depth and detail, but to stick to a fairly high level, with enough detail to accurately convey what AI is generally about, rather than resorting to comforting but confusing and misleading metaphor. So popular in the general media. This needs further fine-tuning and research like many other intelligent aliens (importantly legal and approved by all) (probably new innovative technology not yet seen.) I don't know.

AI and "Human Consciousness. The consciousness of time, the ability to predict the future, the ability to plan, scheme, connive, etc. Aren't the robots which Michio says have the "intelligence of a cockroach" playing Chess and Go? Don't these games require "consciousness of time"? In all circumstances where AI enabled robots have dominated in these two games, aren't they displaying a "prediction of the future" in their planning, scheming and conniving? In calculating their current move, they have to have a concept that something is coming next, and they have to predict what that something will be. Perhaps its "concept of time" is merely that of a series of sequential moves or steps, to the point it knows when to "waste a move" to adjust the rythm of the game in order for the timing of its plan to work. Isn't that a manner of "predicting the future", a "concept of time"? Perhaps AI doesn't yet comprehend the passing of time in seconds, minutes or days, but it seems to me that merely predicting what comes next, how many moves or steps from now, even without knowing or understanding how muxh time each move or step may take, is still an understanding that something comes next, a prediction of the future.

Generative AI has been talked about for the past TEN YEARS at least - there were keynotes on it well over SIX years ago like this one with Bloomberg on Generative AI and the Future of Trust: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kX9SoO_TroA.html All these technologies are easy to spot if you know where to look, and one day these systems will be capable of creating all content in all formats and capable of making it look real, authentic, and so good you never want to turn it off ...
