Years ago I told my doctor that I lost my job so I wasn't going to refill my statin prescription. They were expensive and that cost came directly out of my unemployed pocket. He heartlessly said *_"Well if you're not going to take your statins, I'm not going to be your doctor."_* Wow! I left without another word and never saw him again.
This is either a pure ideologist or someone getting kickbacks from the statin people. Really you don’t want a doctor like that anyway. For those of us with little choice and have to keep those doctors due to insurance details I would suggest you make a big show of contriteness and beg him not to fire YOU though you employ him and tell them you can’t afford expensive statins and if the have a free or very cheap one you will take it and make always like you are BUT DONT. He has no way to know and he’ll leave you alone. At some point maybe start to complain about muscle pain and other negative effects of Statins every time you see him as if it’s worsening. Make sure he documents this in his notes and say I want this documented because I am afraid what’s happening to me will get much worse. Throw your little actor inside into this presentation and eventually he’ll take you off or you can justify why you stopped. Keep your own notes of dates & times when you told him this. THE DOCUMENTATION IS EVERYTHING. And you will win this fascist war. P.S. my father died from interstitial lung disease which is one of the bad side effects of statins. Google Interstitial Lung disease and statins and read about it for yourself. Nothing like this was ever in my family before.
The increased risk of dementia from taking statins was news to me, & what's alarming is that could be the very reason that cases are on the rise everywhere!
That was the plan of big pharma and the medical industry all along. Why do you think they started building alzheimer units at all the nursing homesyears ago. They knew they would have plenty of people to fill them. I have tried to warn people for years that when you reduce all the cholesterol in your body especially your brain you will develop dementia and they thought I was crazy. I read it in a book from the doctors who worked at a famous spa for the very rich. They casually mentioned in the book how important cholesterol was and never to take statins if you want a healthy brain. That was twenty years ago.
Yes I’m now thinking about my Dads dementia. Statins for 25years. I just took my mum off statins because she got muscle myopathy and was very sick. Not anymore after my research.
It is because they keep lowering the "thresh hold" of what normal cholesterol levels should be when they need more "customers" for whatever new statin drug they developed. Every cell in your body needs cholesterol. We're all just their guinea pigs. I will only go to a Dr on an urgent care basis if I break a bone or need stitches because of big Pharma peddling their crap and Doctors having to follow the protocol or lose their license. All we really have to do is look at our President in the US to see what prolonged statin use will do to you. It's on daily display.
My dad and the dad of a high school friend were both on statins. Both had muscle atrophy between the thumb and forefinger and lost nearly all grip strength. Not for me.
My father was on statins “Lipitor” for longer than I remember probably when they first came out. He developed Type 2 diabetes, and vascular dementia. He also had a quintuple bypass. And now my doctors want me on statins. Crestor. I am 71. I was have some side effects you described. My A1C was up to 6.0. Because of the A1C, I am on Keto with intermittent fasting now. After my research and your videos and others, I’m stopping statins.
I was given Crestor when it very first came out, my total cholesterol was over 8. It was efficacious and transformed my lipid profile. However, I developed night terrors and I would wake up some nights finding myself walking around the bedroom. Took me months to connect the dots as at that time it wasn't a known side-effect. I still have high total cholesterol but very good triglycerides so I take nothing
Take CO Q 10...400 mg per day. And try serrapeptase to remove any calcifications in your body. It naturally thins your blood and reduces inflammation as well as pain.
I"m a M.D. with a specialty in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics and Obesity Medicine. If you are 65 years old and above and on a Medicare advantage plan insurance, I can assure you that your doctor will push STATINS in your throat. Here in the USA, the CMS (center for Medicare service) puts out a scoring system called HEDIS (HEALTH EFFECTIVENESS DATA AND INFORMATION SET) and 1 of the measure is putting patients with diabetes, atherosclerosis, heart disease or any of its heart disease equivalents, on statins. Their target is 80% of those patients should be on statins and the doctor/clinic/ health group companies gets a 5 star rating if 80% is reached which equates to more $$ reimbursement from CMS ( a government entity governing medicare). Therfore, medical groups, health care groups are pushing the doctors to write more statins. Doctos like me get a score card, like a school report card with all the scores on the HEDIS METRICS. In fact, I got a shout out from our medical director that I have the lowest score on statin prescription and that I should improve my statin star rating to bring in more money for the company I work for (OPTUM).It behooves me to think against my ethical principles. I discuss the pros and cons of statins with my patients and discus with them the NNT of these statins for primary and secondary prevention and then I let the patient decide. If the patient decides against it, then I dont give statins and I document it in the medical records. In fact I also add journal citations in my notes for other doctors in my group to see and perhaps explore. Hence, my low statin HEDIS score metric. I will stick to my conviction of informed consent with the patients. I think this is the best ethical way to practice medicine. Dr Mason I hope you will be at the Low carb conference in Denver in Feb 2023.
Dr. Thank you for your integrity above compliance to corrupt medication. A q? What of the espoused value of low dose statins for stabilizing soft plaque - or is there a more ethical alternative?
I watched a video some years ago on N how medical associations destroyed the medicine profession because in the past, people could make their own associations to pay for medical care, but they had the power on medics, so they went on government so it granted them the power of cancel any medic license that agreed to work for them, an also making mor difficult to students to graduate so they imposed mor years and training, so they could manta in a medic shortage. This was the beginning of all this corruption.
It is unusual that you are whistleblowing on the push from the companies. I always thought it was a liability issue for the doctor. I have refused statins for years. My doctor’s go ballistic because my numbers are so high, but… I don’t believe that fats or cholesterol kill you. Inflammation does; however, I can’t seem to get my family to quit eating all the junk. It is really hard to maintain health when everyone wants to eat at a fast food.
In 2012 I was a very athletic health person 58 no medication. My doctor recommended a statin. My first question - can I just change my Diets? He smiled and said “you mean eat nuts and berries “ Shortly after raking the Statins I became horribly I’ll with symmetrical joint pain, difficulty working getting out of bed etc. My doctor said “we don’t know the cause” I demanded tests Lyme disease etc. Then I googled Statins Side Effects. Discovered a thorough description of the ailment - fired my doctor, flushed the statins and began a dedicated study of nutrition science / human biochemistry. A very positive outcome for me. Dr Paul Mason continues to play an important role. You
Years ago my Kaiser doc in SoCal got me on to a Statin and immediately I could barely get out of bed with muscle pain and stiffness. I got off of the 10mg dose and never looked back. I am healthy and celebrating my 75th birthday this coming Monday. God has been good to me. And I so enjoy following Jesus and Scripture. Blessings from North Texas. My goal is to outlive my Kaiser doctor😀 who is 20 years my junior and a decent guy who drank the kool aid 😀. I am also eating a low carb diet and have cut out sugar.
@@chrislastnam6822 Crap. Carbs are turned into sugar which is the deadliest additive around. Cancers feed off sugar and cause severe inflammation not only of joints and muscles but also the liver
When I read your comment that you are a Type 1 diabetic. I felt I needed to tell you a story. You may already know this and are doing it. A friend of mine has Type 1 diabetes he'd had it had it for decades and was doing what the doctor told him to do a high carb low fat diet and he was on about 4-5 insulin injection a day and he's levels were all over the place he could do the same thing each day and one day his levels could be 2 the next day could be 18. I saw a video on RU-vid by Dr Troy Stapleton who diagnosed himself with Type 1 diabetes and he did everything his specialist told him a high carb low fat diet and his blood sugar levels were all over the place like being on a roller-coaster. He read books from the early 1900s which said low carb high fat diet and he tried it, his blood sugar levels went to near perfect. I showed his video on RU-vid to my friend and he showed his doctor and he said give it a go, he went from 4-5 insulin injection a day to one in a weeks and he's still on the same diet which is basically a Keto diet now for over 5 years and all those years he's never looked and felt better. I just don't know why they recommend a high carb diet when carbs just turn to sugar which means you need more insulin injection. Maybe it so they can make more money.
As a UK practitioner I regularly raise these issues at symposia and get summarily dismissed. The medical industry has fallen for this hook line and sinker. I recommend people also look up Rob Lustig on lipids for information on pattern A and pattern B cholesterol and Tg:HDL ratio - some background information that fits perfectly with this excellent presentation.
I have a great triglycerides and HDL and my ratio is something like “1”. Because my LDL is above the medical establishment’s ever-changing acceptable level, my doctor told me I would “benefit from medication.” I never responded to her statin suggestion, but now I’m going to send her a link to this video! Many doctors are victims of Big Pharma propaganda, right alongside their patients!
It's better to print the studies from the well-regarded journals that Dr. Mason quotes. Most doctors regard any RU-vid video as coming from quacks, but when they see that prestigious publications have published the studies they are more likely to balk
I have had off the chart hyperlipidemia and hypercholesterolemia for over 50 years, and yet I have a perfect BMI and no symptoms of heart disease. Every time I get a blood test my physician gets hysterical and actually sends a prescription for statins to the pharmacy for me. My last physical I told him I don't take statins. He was pissed!
@@timshel011 You are right. It's on my list of things to do, but that list keeps getting longer every day. The clot shot showed us how things really work. I have been aware of it for some time, but the degree of corruption is staggering.
Doctors are such arrogant pricks. It never occurs to them that the Big Pharma sponsored information they have been indoctrinated with could possibly be wrong, and they think that a patient is a slave who must do as they are told. My doctor also got the shits when I refused a statin. I don't care. I'm right and he is wrong. I'm not harming my own health to soothe his ego.
My cholesterol came back recently as an astronomical 210 (just joking), and my doctor wanted to write me a prescription for a statin. She showed me a computer program with my data entered. It showed that if I took this statin, my 10 year chance of a heart attack would be reduced from 8% to 7%. I later found a study showing that if your risk of heart disease is less than 10%, statins are worthless. I also read that 20% of those who take statins end up stopping them because the side effects are unacceptable.
I was on Simvastatin for over 10 years. Developed T2D and was having trouble maintaining stable BS level. Had already dealt with brain fog, balance issues, muscle weakness, and pain the whole time. The BS thing was the last straw. Stopped taking statin 1 month ago just starting to feel better.
So pleased for you. It is 20 years ago that I was unable to walk, could not play tennis or walk the dog. This drug has been maiming people, 1 in 3 I believe for 30 years and the Australian FDA has done nothing to stop them. They told me the good of the drug out weighed the bad. Surely by now they are getting the message. GP in the UK wrote that it was so good it should be added to drinking water and anyone who criticized it was a conspiracy theorist. Spread the word to all you meet. WE MUST GET THIS DRUG BANNED
My father was on statins for some years, the one which was withdrawn. He developed muscle wastage. The first symptom of this was out walking when his leg stiffened up. He became quite unwell over time culminating in liver cancer which came as a complete shock to us. He blamed his ills on statins. The irony it was given because he'd had a very successful bypass some 20 years earlier. His cholesterol wasn't elevated. My GP practice has a 'practice pharmacist'. She proceeded to tell me 3 times she was trying to educate me and once I didn't understand. This is because I have refused a statin, and incidentally giving my reasons. My records now record I've refused statins and was told I wouldn't get my cholesterol checked any time soon.
Hi paul as always your information is very helpful and honest thanks for all that you do. As for your opening comments sound just like how they pushed through the covid gene jabs, regardless of the fact that a ceo from pfizer recently admited in a EU hearing they never check that the vaccine stopped bloody transmission or even getting covid😱 Yet mandates were enforced, and i lost my job due to them😔 Its always about money not health.
You are wonderful person. I’m 76 years old. I had a serious attack with 35% pumping, 4 months ago. The cardiologist put me on 80 mg of a statin. I’m stopping using it. I’m now on a carnivore diet. I’m 157 lbs & 5 ‘ 6” tall. All my numbers are good. I could not encourage my GP or cardiologist to read the new JAMA study published March of 2022. Thank you for your work. John. Toronto Canada
I'm pushing 70 now but when I was about 35 I was put on lipitor to reduce my 'bad' cholesterol. I refused to take them after a short time and here I am nearly 70 with no problems with my heart and arteries. I never took the covid trial drug jabs here in Canada and I lost many civil liberties both on the Provincial and Federal levels. It's troubling to me as I age that I cannot trust my own doctor as he is so influenced by the Drug Cartels to push toxic potions. And yet I will need a doctor as my body ages...
6 months after starting them I started experiencing massive dizzy spells....I've also lost my ballance often putting it down to all kinds of possibilities including age!! Not quite ready to express myself that deeply right now as I'm also bereaved...& need some sleep. They were prescribed in 2019 and spells of initial dizzy spells in lockdown 2020...it's now June 2024 & last few months began binning say, 15 out of 30...and currently im TOTALLY without...ive had so many falls, broke 2 tables, almost broke two legs on separate falls, whacked my head on another, more recently when grabbing something to lessen the impact got a cut above my elbow, so many close calls. Instead I've put myself on berbarine extract & fully plan to take up swimming & gym again...making myself walk so forgoing the bus or underground...these darn You Tube videos may have saved my life. I've started calling statins chemical lobotomy's!! My mum died of Alzheimer's or did she?? Now I'm wondering, as her description of her brain spins resemble mine EXACTLY!!
Every MD had the bad fortune to pay for their limited knowledge of having a endocrine tumor wanted to prescribe statins to stop the blood pressure spikes. I have been thrown out of doctors offices because I refused statins. Finally found a doc who is 60 years old and struggles with our healthcare professionals. His nurse said, you are the only patient I have had in the last 5 years who takes absolutely no meds ..how frightening!!!!
Hubby had a wellness check 20 years ago. Except for cholesterol, perfect. He was on no meds. Doc put him on a statin. Three months later, a massive hemorrhagic stroke, which he miraculously survived. His mentality dropped him to a 4 year old, and bilateral right-sided hemianopsia. 3 weeks later, follow-up labs. I received a call to double his statin. I did, and the next morning, another hemorrhagic stroke. Two craniotomies and evacuations in 3 weeks! When his doc tells me his cholesterol is high, I smile and say, "good." His last PCP fired us for refusing Crestor and the j@b.
I'm so thankful to Paul Mason and many others in the low carb space who gave me enough of a warning to refuse a statin when my doctor wanted to put me on one. I've since gone back and learned as much as I could about the damned things and have thankfully confirmed my decision was 110% correct. I will never, ever take a statin. Their only positive benefit appears to be due to an anti-inflammatory effect, since the systems of those who have had heart attacks or strokes or TIAs in my personal case are by definition highly inflamed. But the cost associated with this benefit is in no way worth it, and there are 100 other anti-inflammatory medications.
Believe statins are prescribed before organ transplants since deminishing the body's immune response, and thereby preventing rejection of the foreign organ.
Many years ago I was in my local village post office. A man came in on crutches, walking with difficulty. Another man said: what has happened to you, did you have an accident? No, he shouted, it is those bl**dy statins. pointing with one crutch at all of us and said: Do not EVER take statins, promise me! I have been told by the nurse at my doctors, several times over the years, I should be on statins even though the cholesterol levels are not high. I have refused every time. I’m glad I listened to that guy.
When i confronted my Doctor who kept pushing the statin BS with the facts & accused him of deliberately harming his patients > He retired 2 months later (At 55) ??? I complained to the NZ Medical Institution & didn't even get a reply ???
Wow, absolutely awesome presentation. over the past 20 years, years I've been tested, my triglycerides have ranged between 600-1200. That is not a typo, nor is it based on any esoteric scale. Base on my own readings the past 20 years, I have always refused to take Statins. It seems to me Statins have a greater risk of damaging/killing me than triglycerides. No one makes it out the end, we all die. No point in paying pharma to hasten the final event. I am a compulsive investigator. I made my own mind up years ago. I do not accept the results of studies that are not released with the complete background information and methodology. I did not need Dr Mason to convince me, BUT, I absolutely enjoyed listening to the entire presentation.
Dr. Mason. Thank you for the information video. I’ve been on atorvastatin for 3-4 weeks and feel like crap. Muscles sore, lazy, stiff. I’ve read all the other problems too. I’m 90% back to being a Dr. Mcdougal vegan. Am I on the right track? Statins are horrible. Thanks to all.
My husband had a heart attack the end of last year. They put in a stent. He is now on 6 meds, including a statin (Lipitor, half tablet) and his cardiologist just prescribed 2 more because his EF is only 40%. From what I am hearing, the only thing these drugs are really effective for is lowering the $$ in our bank account.
The Doc tried prescribing me Statins yesterday. I'm 44. His exact words were "They're safe and effective" which I knew to NOT be true. I told him no way. I'm changing my doest and lifestyle. I refuse to take that crap.
My doctor also tried to get me on them. I have Hashimoto and high cholesterol. I bike a lot here in flat Denmark, and I’m just adjusting my lifestyle. I told my doctor ‘No’ to statins, and she said she would write a prescription anyways. I like my doctor, but I said that no way I’d be taking that crap!
I watched a lecture recently from Dr. Malholtra, a preeminent cardiologist in the U.K. He said that approximately 1/3 of all studies state the benefits in terms of relative risk, but the harms in terms of absolute risk. That is disingenuous at best.
I'm definitely delighted to refuse statins and after watching your video even much more. THANKS a lot for explaining and exposing the aims of the pharma industry.
I have had 3 heart attacks 4 stents put in .. after my last heart attack the put me on a high dose of statists 3 different kinds they all made me sore and sick. I do have super high HDL I stop taking them .. its 9 years still going fine
I'm 76 years old and discontinued statins 8 months ago due to horrible muscular pain. I feel so much better. As far as longevity goes. I don't want to live to be 90 or 100. I want to feel the best I can today. My personal decision. Each of us has to listen to our bodies and determine if recommended medications are negatively affecting our quality of life. Do the reading, stay informed.
Thank you so much! I am ever grateful to all your videos. I’ve learned so much. Watching your videos from California soon to be moving to Michigan. ❤🌲✝️🥩
Go back to 1880 and almost nobody had a heart attack, now 30% of Americans have a heart attack. What has changed is the massive amount of sugar, processed food and vegetable oils that we now consume. Would you rather eliminate sugar, processed food and vegetable oils from your diet or rely on a statin once you have developed a heart disease?
In the UK they are going to roll-out an annual health check for the over 40s. You will be sent a little kit to prick your finger and send back a blood test and you will be encouraged to go to a pharmacy and get a blood pressure test. Guess the % of statins they are going to prescribe on the back of this. My husband was bullied and threatened by his doctor on a telephone call this week to take statins. His LDL number was high - he's been on a carnivore diet for 4 months - lost all the weight he wanted to lose, lowered his blood pressure numbers by 20 points to 'normal', cleared up his psoriasis, stopped snoring and has taken himself of his BP lowering drugs and his anti-coagulant. All the doctor was interested in was pushing statins and trying to frighten him with a QRISK prediction of his risk of a heart attack or stroke in the next 10 years going up from 20% to 50% comparing a previous cholesterol test with the recent. Disgusting. He could have spent his time seeing patients or telephoning those who truly needed his help.
I am happy that after 3 short term different brands of statins, against my doctor recommendations, decided to stop taking those drugs. I could not even walk to the mail box without getting muscle cramps. Thank you for confirming my suspicion.
i was on statins for 1 year but as i was in college studing horticulture i found my memory declining...i was in year 3 and i wass known as the professor and i used to fill in for the teacher if she was out....so i did some research and found it was statins so i stopped taking them and about 3 months i was back to normal just before my state test.....i did very well i got a distenction
Like a top-class prosecuting lawyer, Paul M presents indisputable FACTS and comprehensive research EVIDENCE to support his arguments ! ! Deadly silence from the defence team ! ! When, if ever , will the Medical community take notice ? How essential it is for people to inform themselves AND take responsibility for their own health and welfare.
Brilliant lecture. Everything I though or suspected about statins. I also have my own proof as to what happened to my paralysed husband after taking them. 18 months of aching and painful walking ability. Not discovered until a patient in a local UK🇬🇧Hospital bed opposite his asked “are you on Statins”? My H’ asked him why? The patient, another man said “because you are always scratching your skin!” WOW. My husband had no feeling in his body and didn’t realise! But he stopped his statins and improved in walking‼️he thought his paralyses was getting worse but it was the statins the Doctor put him on for high cholesterol. The Allopathic Doctors haven’t got a clue and just do what our Government tell them to. P.S. I got to many aches after taking a course of them I now refuse them.
I am / was on statins. I found that if I take one every second day, it works just as well as taking one every day as prescribed. Now, I take one every second day, one month each year. That one month is the month before I get my annual blood test so I don't have the annual debate with my doctor.
After I was prescribed statins for somewhat high LDL, I experienced lack of stamina/rapid fatigue when doing low level physical tasks; fasciitis in my heel; and I kept injuring my achilles tendon in minor events.
The first lecture in the series: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rdgS3PuSuyg.html (The Truth about High Cholesterol Lecture 1 of 3) Part 3 is yet to be released, but is worth the wait. Dr Mason labelled it "Is your cardiologist a clot?"... Should cause a few waves in the medical world!
The really interesting thing that I learnt, which most people don't realise is that LDL not only carries cholesterol, but they also carry Vitamin E and Carotenoids. I think also COQ10. So when you aim to lower the LDL you also take out these fat-soluble anti-oxidants. Not good. Perhaps this is a big reason for the massive amount of side effects from Statins
If statins were effective in preventing heart attacks instead of just lowering cholesterol then why do heart attacks remain the number one killer among populations when practically everyone has been prescribed the drug?
And something that needs to be talked about is how statins in comination with certain other drugs increases the risk. For instance statins and steroids (MS patients take a lot of prednisone as do IBS, etc, so do people with psoriasis who do occlusive drsgs with topical steroids and absorb huge amounts over years)and drugs like Protonix and Tagamet also contribute to myopathies. Doctors need to care more for their patients well being and less about Big Pharm profits.
I am losing my vocabulary due to statins, and my husband's doctor is killing him with a mega dose daily. How can we have an educated conversation with doctors who believe in statins?
Statins are ruining the lives of thousands of Australians, mainly the elderly. I was so disabled by this drug and thought I was heading for the Nursing Home. Fortunately a GP decided to take me off the Cholesterol lowing drug and I slowly began to walk again. I never suspected that this drug could cause muscle weakness and had beeen diagnosed with Polymyalgia.. When I came to my retirement village I found to my horror that there were lots of old people on walking frames shuffling along and all taking the drug Statins. I told them of my experience and all with out exception are gardening, dancing, and walking normally again. It is a crime against humanity as bad as the thalidomide drug. Last year I took 30 people off just by stopping anyone I saw in cafes, supermarkets etc with a walking frame or shuffling along with sticks, 80% were on this drug. GPs do not know of this side effect. But the FDA say they trust them all to know of it, what a joke.
My good cholesterol was 34 and I was given a statin. After 3 months of use my muscles weakness caused me to break my back when doing a job I had done many times before.
I haven't worked out the triglycerides:HDL ratio. I was told my cholesterol levels were "6". I have been low carb high saturated fat since August. Apparently my fasting insulin was 18. Seriously don't understand this. Doc wants to put me on statin (no chance!) and a diabetes med.
Another great lecture. Look forward to part 3 Edit: I asked the Chat GPT AI the following question: What is the optimum diet for human beings? It responded: "In general, a healthy diet is one that is balanced and includes a variety of different foods from all food groups. It should be rich in nutrients such as fiber, protein, and healthy fats, and low in added sugars, sodium, and unhealthy fats". I also "grilled" it on atherosclerosis, LDL, and Small-Dense LDL too.
yeah aussies realy blessed..specialy the last couple of years.. they should feel proud of their gov and system As for the rest of us , we will NEVER visit Australistan
If you have no medical history, or history with said doctor, and they don't even suggest trying a strict diet to lower cholesterol and high blood pressure. You know there's something morally wrong with the doctor.
I'm willing to bet if the trials of Lipitor were rerun today by a third party with integrity, there would 0.0% benefit found in preventing heart attacks and strokes.
Lovastatin is found in edible fungi as well as in toxic ones. It was originally found in a toxic aspergillus mold, but it also occurs in a red culinary mold that's used to color some Peking duck, and in oyster mushrooms.
Thank you. I like many people am desperately trying to establish the truth after being pushed into a lifetime of statins. Do doctors get paid more to do this or are they blissfully ignorant of human biology?
@@SheilaTitchener yes. I dated a diabetes drug rep and she had a budget to spend on gifts for hospital doctors. It’s just a business to the doctors and the drug companies.
Except the $$$$$ they get also remember they need to follow doctrines, eg. one could easily see that at the conxid vxccines topic... otherwise may lose their license. However my doc where I do not go often but I am longer already - never tried to push any vxx or pill on me..he never even mentioned vxccines 🤣
My question is, there are many studies and clinical trials out there, proving statins to be effective in lowering mortality and CVD events by up to 30%. Can Dr. Mason explain that, it's really confusing.
Did some research, it seems all those studies only demonstrate a relative risk. The absolute risk is insignificant. For example, without statin, the incident rate is 2%, with statin it is 1%, the absolute risk is just 1%, but the relative risk is two times (2%/1%=2). They also tend to not publish those studies that are not in their favor (not even significant in relative risk)
When the list of side effects on the drug commercial have to be read fast because they'd be longer than the commercial itself if they didn't, I choose to pass on taking them!
I went on a low dose statin a year ago. My doctor is pleased with how it brought my cholesterol down to a normal level. I had zero side effects. My mother and three of her sisters died of sudden heart attacks, so maybe the statin will help keep my arteries have less plaque. I am quite happy to remain on them.
I agree with you, my husband refused taking the statin… and the main artery to his heart has built plaque. He needs to be on them. I do see a slight change in his mental Whit… but nothing too serious at this point.
We are all free to choose how we think best to keep healthy. I came off my medications when I learnt about the Hek293. I objected to the 'herding' and 'rolling out' psychology enforcement by the government, and the blackmail of losing livelihoods when the vaccines came out. These pressures made me do some research on PP and Big Pharma. I have been hated for it, rejected, it has caused all sorts of problems because I would not conform. I was told regarding declining the jab "well, you might as well come off your px meds then because they have been tested with c.lines as well! So I did. Have not taken my bp tabs nor my diuretics for over 18 months now No withdrawal symptoms My bp has been high and I was told by a pharmacist who checked my bp about a year ago I needed to go straight to the hospital to be checked out. Luckily I was a bit down in the dumps and couldn't be bothered to go. I am still here and my bp has not got worse, I feel healthier and my knee has stopped crunching when I go up the stairs. My back pain has gone completely. I no longer am tied to the medicine cabinet and controlled by fear. I have learnt that coming off bp meds and living with a higher blood pressure could 'possibly' cause kidney damage, but guess what, I looked up side effects on the leaflet enclosed with my tablets and guess what, one of them was 'possible' kidney damage. I decided to take the risk. My husband is also taking personal responsibility for his own health and he is continuing with his bp and statin tabs. We agree to differ on ethical issues. This is his choice for his health, and I have made my choice for mine. We respect one anothers personal choices and do not Lord it over one another. This is how it should be.
I’m torn on statins. My father had sextuple bypass surgery at 63, a few years after his younger brother died of a heart attack at 58 after returning from jogging (he was in perfect shape). 25 years later, taking a daily statin dose, my father is still going strong at 88, and two catheter checks of his coronary arteries over the years have shown all is well.
Have your doctor order you a Heart CT scan have your calcium score checked. Mine is 0%. No plaque. My cholesterol is high 221. Doctor wants me to take Crestor. No thank you.
I would be looking at all the other variables between your Father and Uncle. Was their a history of heart problems in your grandparents family. Did they smoke or drink heavily or eat highly processed food. Perhaps exposed to a lot of stress as children. Perhaps on longterm meds. Look at everything every detail. It could be a history of familial high colestrial. Boris Johnson jogged and still does but truth is he doesn't look the picture of health. My advice is look at everything then evaluate and see if it is wise to take the statin.
I'm in love with this guy...lol. Kidding but the more I listen to these physicians from various parts of the World that clarify and explain what I have felt for 20 yrs-that why, if all my other markers were great, the focus is on the perceived boogeyman LDL. I succumbed to taking one starting a year ago. Thanks to my sister, I told my MD I would only take the lowest dosage 3 times a week. I am now stopping as of this last week. I am 74 with much longevity in my family and am an avid workout person so I am willing to be a maverick and ask for more in-depth tests like the LDL-size one or the calcium score. I just don't believe in messing with the body's greater plan for all the components it utilizes. I have always eaten clean. My risk to monitor.
