As he prepares to begin the 14th season of his daytime talk show, Dr. Phil McGraw tells Matt Lauer that every one of the stories on his show “has a message” for viewers. He also talks about Matt’s interview with Joyce Mitchell, the prison worker who helped two convicted killers escape. “I don’t by what she’s saying, not for a second,” Dr. Phil says. “She’s trying to talk her way out of something that she behaved her way into.”

Joyce was in love with the inmates. Hence why she would do almost anything for them. I don't care what her doofy husband says, she was smitten.

Mitchell could have asked to be transferred to another prison if she felt that the men were asking her to do things or bring stuff. If this was reported, these prisoners could've been transferred to other jail's and she would have been reprimanded by the warden for allowing herself to get close. Turning them in before anything happened would've been disciplinary action, aiding the escape means legal action.

I agree with Dr. Phil---the excitement generated between her and her prison inmate employees, at a time when her husband of 21 years may have seemed to be a little wanting, led to her actions to help them escape. I do believe she could not participate in her husband's probable murder. She may also began to think about what the escapees would do to her. Hence the acute panic attack. It was NOW and REAL. So 5 years in jail and she is home with Lyle. There are worse endings.

2:57 100% agree with Dr. Phil. For those that say "she made a mistake", "she was conned," etc. need to wake up and read the IG's report. She called her husband "the glitch." And I believe that if the plan did NOT include unaliving her husband, she probably would have gone through with it with being the getaway driver. Stupid, because she'd be lucky is the only thing they did was "ditch" her.

Overweight woman in prison is a recipe for disaster. I worked in a medical clinic in Fl with two woman that fell into this category. They both ended up leaving maybe because of getting caught. Prisoners have all day to think about how to get away with something. Overweight woman have a target on their back in that kind of a setting.

Anyone else notice its usually always middle aged women who have low self esteem that end up working around men that are inmates nevertheless, and are looking for anyone to pay them some attention? And I dont buy any of the victim mentality.
