I use the [Cunningham] Panel basically to help me if I think there is an infection or something more going on. I’m able to use the Panel to show to the parents - that these are abnormalities. It’s giving us evidence of antineural activity. That means your child’s brain is being attacked, basically. But it is biology and that helps us on a track to figure out what’s going on.
And it’s also something that over time, when he’s better, and we repeat it, it should show us evidence of that, if we need it.
I’m able to use the Panel to show to the parents - that these are abnormalities. It’s giving us evidence of antineural activity. That means your child’s brain is being attacked, basically.
On the other hand, let’s say it’s very hard to treat him, I would use [the Cunningham Panel] for follow-up to determine ─ “Are things getting worse biologically, as well as what we’re seeing clinically?”
I think we’re just at the beginning of learning about the role of infections in psychiatric illness. But I think it is so much more than we realize.
