Why is everything worse for us? Our menopause symptoms are worse why? I’m in menopause, I went full blown this past March around my 50th birthday mark. When one lady mentioned putting her head in the freezer I said to myself thank you lord I’m not crazy. The heat emanating from my head is insane and it it hits in spurts thank God. No one sat down and said when you turn 50 this happens. And the mood swings my God sometimes I’m ready to check myself into a psych ward. A month ago I couldn’t stop crying. I’m better this month but this is definitely a new journey.

Read the book Menopause Without Medicine. Change your diet. I am 75 years old...did not have those issues that people speak about. My mom also said she enjoyed sex more after Menopause!

I had a full hysterectomy at 54 years old. My doctor warned me about going into full menopause before my surgery, and we discussed hormone replacement therapy, which was a life saver. I am amazed at the number of women who's doctor has not discussed the benefits of hormone replacement therapy. All my friends just believe that suffering through it is a part of life. It's such a shame and an even bigger shame that insurance does not cover it.

00:48: MY body taught me about perimenopause: night sweats, reduced sleep and WEIGHT GAIN. I choose to FIGHT back: Fitbit watch (walking/ steps), time restricted eating (16:8, 2 meals daily, NO snacks, low-no carb, no sugar). I feel great, but I have to monitor my electrolytes😅

I am a black woman and had a hysterectomy at 47. Neeeeever told about hormone replacement until I went to my OB-Gyn and saw a sign about Bio-Te! I have been on the Bio-Te pellets for 3 years now! ❤️ Should be covered by insurance but, is not!

A week before my daughter turned 8, a friend and I were talking and I said "If I didn't know better, I would swear she's hormonal. " I kept track on my own period calendar and sure enough, every four weeks like clockwork, my sweet little angel turned into a snarling she-devil even though she didn't have a period for 6 more years. It was an enlightening moment for me. It made me realize that, of course a switch doesn't flip on one day and Bam!, you're in puberty. It's a transition that takes years. Just as menopause is also. So when in my late 30s, I realized that I had had symptoms for several years already, I understood that it was the beginning of a process. I didn't know that most things I was feeling were part of it (which weren't the typical symptoms we're always told about), so I thought of myself as an oddity. I sit here tonight watching this alone, feeling out of sorts. Nothing interests me(food, entertainment, etc), clothes feel wrong, I'm grumpy for no reason, etc.... This is part of my perimenopause journey. THANKYOU for having this discussion!!!! It's SO very important that young girls as they're becoming women are taught properly. We certainly weren't.... To be fair, my Mom talks about things now. I learned as an adult that my mother had had no issues with painful or heavy periods like my sisters and I did. She just had a different experience so she couldn't relate to what we experienced. Knowing nothing about what's normal was very isolating. These discussions are so very vital.

Thank you Tamron for the candid conversation. I turned 50 and I believe I was having hot flashes since my late 40's. My doctor who is younger than me said you're not going through menopause cause you're still have your cycle. Thanks for clearing this up.

Also know that your hormonal lab levels (i.e.-LH, FSH) may not indicate you are going through menopause but you can still have peri-menopausal symptoms letting you know the change is coming. It's still good to know what these hormone values are whether you trying to determine if you are in menopause or not. Be well and be at peace.

I will be 51 on December the 15th and have been challenged with the pre menopausal issues since most likely 45ish or maybe earlier. What helps me is i do not have stress in my personal life and have changed careers so i have minimal stress in my professional life. Of course I exercise alot, try to eat healthy 5 to 6 days a week, laugh alot, etc etc... Some days i can feel like shit mentally emotionally and physically but even on those days i can push through it.

estrogen alone lowers breast cancer risk but raises uterine cancer correct? I learned that from Dr Barbie Taylor estrogen plus progesterone RAISE breast cancer risk minimally but lowers uterine cancer risk So that is the dilemma. Pick your cancer. This is why it's so hard to know whether to take HRT or not. It's likely I will go on HRT because I'm only 51 and menopause is sucking already.

Food for thought: you can get breast and uterine cancer and not be on hormone therapy. I'm an educated patient who's about your age, and I have yet to stop the Pill. I've been on it since I was 17 and stopped taking the placebo pills in my early 30s to suppress my long, painful periods, which was the best thing a doctor could have done for me. When I turned 40, I had to scramble to find a doc to prescribe it to me due to the old, outdated studies. I'm glad I found a provider who listened, as some doctors actually prescribe the Pill for perimenopause symptoms, too (it's estrogen and progesterone, after all). I believe in benefit vs. risk and after 9 surgeries, I do no want an invasive hysterectomy due to perimenopause symptoms like my mother and so forth. It's bad enough with the hormones, but that's just me (rapid aging, major hair/brow loss, acne, etc.). Best wishes to you.

What is the big deal, sure menopause isn’t for the faint of heart, but I never felt embarrassed over it. Arriving at old age should be celebrated, I got to have wrinkles, white hair, hot flashes and all the horribleness of menopause. Just think of all the battles we won to get here, and our children made it pass the age of five. We survived nightmarish teenage years, not only our own, but our teens tried hard to drive us insane, and our grand teens try to eat us for lunch; after dealing with teenagers, menopause is a breeze that you will need during a hot flash. All those exes don’t even make it to the playground after surviving teenage-hood and menopause.
