I was a rabid Ayn Rand, NeoTech fan until I played the video game Bioshock, which is based on an under sea utopia turned dystopia. At first, I was upset a video game dared to criticize what I loved, but as I played, I realized the game predicted exactly what would happen - the sick and the injured who are no longer 'captains of industry' are cast out to live in the sewers.

Again, you don’t have your facts straight about Ayn Rand - who was against conservatism and libertarianism. Gosh, I don’t know how you can keep being negligent about her philosophy when there are so many helpful resources out there to set the record straight. Selfishness does not mean cynical egoism, but rational egoism, which supports shared values between individuals and non-compulsion in thought and action. I’d think you’d be for freedom of thought and action. And altruism doesn’t mean benevolence or kindness. It’s just another way for bad people (narcissists) to manipulate others through guilt, not just on an interpersonal or psychological level, but a moral level. I’d think you’d be against that.

I (sorta) disagree with your comments on Ayn Rand. She, like Emma Goldman on the other side of the political spectrum, were voices that needed to be heard, at a time when the pendulum swung too hard in both directions. Ayn Rand has a lot teach people like me who were never taught self-ownership. I also think Ayn Rand was a hypocrite who ended her life on welfare after spending a lifetime complaining about government assistance. I also think everybody should read her book Anthem, and no one should take ANY philosophy and turn it into an ideology.
