I want to suggest an episode about tendon health As a musician, I developed tendonitis years ago. No one told me about it, I only learned of it after the disease. And even then getting solid information was hard. I think such an episode would be really helpful.

@@Kilo_of_Milk I'm absolutely sure the topic is WAY more complex than 3 words. By the way I healed my tendonitis years ago and I never did that. Just a warmup, maintenance, and warm down routine.

@@brunodangelo1146 great topic! As an older power lifter, I use light resistant bands for very high reps to get the blood flowing to the tendons and ligaments. Tendons love light weight high repetition.

@@brunodangelo1146 --obviously nature is gonna run it's course and with proper loading, your tendon will heal over time. But Kilo of milk is quite right and the literature is quite clear about it: eccentric loading is very beneficial for tendon health.

Ive practiced the big three protocol in Back Mechanic for over 1000 days in a row. Dr Mcgill’s work saved my life. Thank you for having him on. L5-S1 herniation with biaxial bulges on both L3-L4 and L4-L5. I went from full radiating nerve pain down both legs to getting my life back. LOVE YOU MCGILL

Man you sound like me L5 herniated L6-7 bulging and a crushed c4.. I'm so sick of pain meds, yet I can't even remember what no pain feels like. It's gross that my insurance company will pay for oxy and PT and not pay to fix something with surgery. My doctor wants to remove my c4 and replace it with a cadaver bone. 😂

I read mcgill's back mechanics a month ago and it changed my life! After going to several doctors who told me to just go home and it will go away in time, when I finally discovered this book I started adjusting my moves and became very aware of how to stand, how to walk and more importantly that the "suck your ab in" promoted by so many youtubers while working out is actually what fucked up my back! Learning what bracing my core is was a life changer! I deeply recommend his book to learn what we should have learned during our lives!

Blew out 4 discs at 27 years old after a surgery at 19 for 3 of those same discs. It was debilitating and demoralizing. Dr. McGills videos helped me rehab, now 29 lifting, working and playing with my daughter, pain free. Thank you!

What a gift to have Dr. McGill on your show. I have transformed my life through his program which I began at age 60, avoided surgery, and my spine surgeon said it's due to diligently following his program that has kept me as highly functional as I am at age 66 with so many injuries due to a very very active life. I'm always in awe of his knowledge, ability to break down and convey information with such exact detail, and clarity in explaining such complex stuff. Thank you, Andrew--!! PS - My advice -- take what Dr. McGill says seriously folks.

Had a bad back for 30 years and worked on it almost daily, this has taught me less is more, tried the Big 3 for the first time while listening, almost instant reduction in pain. Big 3 now part of my routine.

Being 51, a firefighter for 30 plus years and having just had an L3 discectomy, I am on the long slow road to recovery. This was a phenomenal podcast to listen to while on my walks. I am certain that I will need to listen to it again. I did learn that I have been doing a lot of things incorrectly in relation to my life style and fitness journey. I have a lot to learn and appreciated this podcast. Thank you for the info and I look forward to learning what I can do to live a healthy active lifestyle for years to come. Thank you again.

A. Huberman was not on his A game for this interview 🤨 I applaud Dr. McGill for sticking to facts and concrete experiences instead of hypothesis or outliers. Also, I noticed a higher occurrence of personal life stories from A. Huberman, instead of adding scientific references.

The big 3 helped me somewhat, but I was still struggling with quite a bit of back pain. What helped me the most was the Movement Vault app's low back pain program. It was literally a game changer for me. Much more structured and in-depth than just repeating the same3 exercises day in and day out. I'm typing this with zero back pain after struggling for the past 3 years. My hip and core mobility have also improved a lot. Highly recommend the app

Big 3 is a start. Not a program. As so is the book Backmechanics. It gives you insight.. He has other books too .. more complicated to read for non medically trained people though. Since I understood.. I figured out what I need gradually while progressing. Hip/hinge was a crucial one.. also suitcase carries.. etc.. I am glad you found something that helped you too. Be well.

Thank you so much for inviting Dr. McGill on the podcast. The man singlehandedly ended my back pain with his boo "back mechanics". There is so much misinformation about back pain and people just keep doinf blanket exercises injuring themselves even more. My biggest mistake was stretching the back since it removed my pain for 20 minutes and then it came back even stronger, delaying this pain further and further until I collapsed from pain Infront of my university.

McGill's methods saved my back and life. Had a herniated disc and severe sciatica. Doctors wanted to do surgery, but with McGill's methods I am now painfree and stronger then ever. 🙏🏻

I think, now at 67, 85% is a lot different from 85% when I was 30. So I understand Dr. McGill’s hesitance to generalize. Wish he would have tried, but he is right that everyone is different, now, in the past and the future. After all my injuries when I was young I am glad I can still walk, jog a bit and lift some weights. Thanks for the discussion gentlemen.

McGill helped me understand how to approach back pain. Remember there is no such thing as non-specific back pain, and you can always identify triggers and go from there.

This was an outstandingly good episode. I have McGill’s Back Mechanic but it was so good to listen to the man himself. A man who says don’t know and it depends alot is a guy you can trust. I have felt for ages that deadlifts may not be for me despite the fact that everyone says you should do them. This episode was a revelation in terms of other exercises you can think about and McGill’s Biblical Week. A superb listen and I will listen again but this time watch it rather than just listen

This is extraordinary. Definitely one of my favorite episodes! It is so gratifying to see professionals who walk their walk, and set a great example for those who follow them as in “this is what happens when you walk the walk”. Everything in Dr.McGill (gently) screams great posture, profound integrity, wisdom of movement and, most importantly, joy. That’s your generative drive - time and stress tested. When I grow up, I want to be like Dr.McGill. Thank you, professor Huberman, for giving the general public this incredible opportunity to learn, not taking it for granted, and already making some changes to my personal Biblical week as well as the weeks of those I care about. I was expecting a lot from the episode, but Dr McGill was held back a lot on giving answers. I can understand that he doesn’t like generalisations, but I didn’t learn a lot apart from McGill 3 that I already knew of. I wanted him to talk a bit about Thoracic, but their focus was only on lower back. Also, he provided couple of case studies for athletes, but common people don’t aim for such things, so it was of no use. A lot of theoretical stuff, but less practical tips to follow. Overall I’m a bit disappointed.

Im 80 pages into back mechanic. This book is phenomenal. I have a strange situation though. For about 5 months till last week I had pain in the muscles on the side of the lower back. They would hurt more after a long sleep or laying down but be surprisingly good when I was being active. Then on Friday the pain completely changed and got far worse. Now I can feel it in the spine, my buttocks and all down my legs. Feels like a completely different pain and hurts in many positions. So it’s hard to self diagnose as what I feel now is completely different to what I felt last week and the 5 months before. The one common theme is spine flexi on causes me pain. Anyway. The book is superb.

I committed to listening to the entire podcast. I respectfully and regrettably say that I did not learn much if anything at all. The guest went about saying generalities that every reasonable person already knows. In Mr. Huberman's podcasts, I often times come away with some actionable information, unfortunately not this time.

@@Asc01111 Got injured lifting heavy and did exercises to recover from my injury. Lower back checked out and it's getting better now. Just a minor setback for a major comeback. Appreciate your concern. Keep being GREAT.

If only I knew at 16 years old that racing motocross for 20 years would permanently destroy my spine and knees, I might have decided a different path. It was a lot of fun but the price paid is enormous. It removes so many options and activities for decades. I wish there was advice for young people to give them a view into a future of limited mobility and restricted range of things you can do in life.

I would love an episode on asthma and natural remedies! There are many people with this chronic problem and I can’t imagine there’s something we can’t do about it.

Loved this podcast, Postural restoration institute helped me tremendously. My right eye started dominating all my vision and my left eye kinda went dormant. This was a big source to my back pain im all better now

I am fortunate enough to live in the same area as Dr. McGill and had connected with his lead instrcutor Dr. Cambridge a few years back. 20 years of lower back pain, nothing worked, went to see him, and with 3simple exercises that I do in the morning (which work my core so a big bonus), and some minor adjustments as to how i bend down and turn around ... my back issue was gone by over 50% in 1 week and totally gone within 10 days. Been pretty much back pain free for over 2 years. i cannot reccomend these guys enough.

I’ve stopped hungering for the magical answer from Stu. He always tells us that there is context. That being said, some of the latter questions that were asked were already answered. We all need to be mindful of what we are capable of and hit the sweet spot and not go further. Quit picking the scab. Listen people, listen and apply. We are not limitless. Don’t be afraid but just be aware of that. I remember the greatest one said that exercise profiteth a little. Talk about a standard for humans to follow. Don’t let your ego mess you up.

Very timely. I am currently laid up, experiencing severe back pain. It's taking me up to 10 minutes to get up. I have had 3 back ops in the past, 2 laminectomies and 1 discectomy. If I knew then what I know now........

Wonderful Andrew! I've pre-ordered three of your books to give to my family. I would love to hear all about caring for your feet. I'm a 61-yr-old female, in excellent physical condition. This was a great intro to Stuart McGill. Thank you! As a Feldenkrais Practitioner, I am in so much agreement with what he said. The "virtual surgery" is absolute genius. I hope Dr. Huberman heard the answer of "it depends" multiple times resonated that every BODY is different and it depends! Now, if only there were daily movements that could exists to stave off pain and elongate the spine to prevent pain. Oh wait. There is. Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lessons!

Thank you, mister Huberman and mister McGill, wonderful insight. Concerning the body types I heard some things about Doshas (Varta, Pitta and Kapha), which according to the ayurvedic and yogic holistic theory are body/personality types - like: more flexible, more strong/broader and so on. I found it quite fitting since it is a rough categorisation and I could use some of the information to improve how I handle myself (for example I as a creative fhying person should do calming and grounding stuff while my kapha friend should do more dynamic stuff in order to counter his passive but grounded and happy body-mentality). Honestly (and since I am not very well read into it yet and it is a big field in eastern medicine) I would love to have an Episode about Ayurvedic medicine/theory and what (and how) it is backed up by modern western medicine. thank you so much for the work you do, the translation and bringing information to the people is a big merit, may God pay you back with what is good for you.

I like Dr McGill. I watched his conversation with Peter Attia before. I don't feel like I learned anything new. I think a podcast with someone like Dr McGill should be done in a different setting to spend more time on showing things rather than talking about them.
