Lots of people have done a low protein, low carb high fat diet. The classic ketogenic diet used for epilepsy fits that criteria. It’s a lot more appetizing and easier to stick to than a high carb low fat diet.

I like how the DR. Broke everything down and your overall Comment on bodybuilding. You can gain the muscle but at the risk of affecting your longevity. I've been going through a process of deciding what I want my fitness goals to be postpartum. At first I wanted to get all the gains but as I continue to learn ( dietetic student) am becoming more comfortable with a average strong physique and more focused on what's going on the inside. Thanks Whitney for your work.

A question I would have liked to ask Dr Longo is: what about the potency of dry fasting compared with water fasting ?
@udummies
@udummies 3 года назад
IMO If FMS is just as good as water only, then I doubt dry would have significant more benefits. Especially relative to the risk.

I enjoyed this interview. Especially the comments on the keto diet. I have completed two sessions of Prolon FMD. I was researching the keto diet to see if it was something I should be doing. I want to read the new book to better understand the FMD and what foods I should be eating. I will also share what I learn with my family, friends, and colleagues. Keep up the good work. RU-vid videos and podcasts are how a massage therapist in College Station can access to the work you are doing. Thank you both!

I'm excited to read this book. I've been reading a lot about fasting lately, the different types of fasting, and how it affects our bodies. And I already agree that most people (especially Americans) get way more protein than we actually need. I'm a huge fan of the plant based diet. Very interested to hear what he has to say on this topic.

Awesome video and interview, thanks so much! If you were to get bloodwork done before the 5 day fast, how long after the 5 day fast would you recommend getting bloodwork done again to compare? Is there a number of days you should wait or number of days would be too long?

Just finished my first 5-day FMD. Great program. Had daily coaching sessions with a professional knowledge Registered Dietician. Unsupervised water only fasting can be dangerous and medically supervised fasts can be quite expensive. FMD is a great way to safely reap similar benefits as water only fasting but with far less risk and expense.

How can a high protein diet be associated with diabetes, when it's sugar and starches that cause it? Unless these patients are getting their proteins from desserts.

What about the anti-nutrients in grains and legumes and the need to soak and/or sprout them? Intermittent fasting is bad? What about Vitamin K2, preformed Vitamin A? The difference between organic and factory farm animal products? There seems to be a lot of holes here. I agree that too much protein converts to sugar but a grain/legume based diet? Not for me. That's the road to refined-carb creeping in. Above ground plant-based diet is unsustainable because hunger will lead to bad choices. Then we're back on the road to metabolic syndrome.

@edjedeesje4715

The ting is why does Valter is negative about intermittent fasting. There is a lot of science out there, mouse work included that tell a positive story. I follow IF for 2 years now (eating window of 7 h) and my blood work is very good. I do not see why it could be negative as long as you stay at a good BMI value. Is he just trying to promote his FMD?
@Appleblade
@Appleblade 5 лет назад
Perhaps his ulterior motives are blinding him. People who are fat adapted don't have to worry about gallstones ... only people who eat like he does do.... eat low fat and you're setting yourself up for gallstones because you're never eating anything that stimulates the emptying of the gall bladder. Even one fatty meal a day would be plenty for maintaining a bladder free of stones. Also, his request to show him the mouse studies where eating keto made mice live longer ... that's been done. You can see Dr Steve Phinney reference the study, done at UC Davis ... mice on keto lived 13% longer than standard chow mice, and low carb mice (like 20% calories from carbs).

While I certainly appreciate your research and the promise of your diet, I am tired of hearing that as a patient I shouldn't try something on my own. After western medicine ruined my health with drugs, and the resulting financial stress of trying to live on $730.00 in disability contributed to my cancer, I'll be damned if I won't take things into my own hands because of attorneys needing to make their money and the medical establishment thinking THEY know more than I do about my own body. I have study biology and nutrition, and you are going to sit there and tell me that boxed food for $256.00 for five days is better than fresh organic live foods that I can make myself for less than $50.00 is better? It's ALL about money, and a damn shame that doctors don't stand behind their hypocritical oath to support their patients instead of giving into the medical establishment. I praise your research, but your ethics on behalf of your patients SUCK!!!
