Personally, twilight wasn't a bad movie, just set for the wrong audience. Imho... If the movie was rated R & wasn't Hollywood cheesy & the author of the book allowed for more sensual & darker version of the story it would have been incredibly satisfying. I really loved the whole twilight saga... Some of the actors were boring but the story, the story had me entering a world in which I could relate to & i wanted to be part of. The story of Twilight was brilliant. The movie itself was unfortunately created for teenagers & was very predictable. I would've loved to see the story with darkness & raw sensuality with the vampire's appealing to an older crowd that awakens their inner fantasy. But, I love watching all 3 movies as they are... Very excited to see this Dracula untold movie... However, I hope it's not made like Van Helsing, but I liked that one too haha...

***** Indeed it would be. Twilight really isn't a vampire movie...

LordVader1094 actually it is a great vampire story, the movie didn't capture the right direction... But that's just my opinion... Vampires aren't just blood suckers ... There's a history behind the legend of whatever you choose to believe... Twilight was a love story that happened to include characters that were vampires... It could have been much better... But it had a huge following so something was done right, like it or not... 😆

As a big Dracula fan, I can easily say that Dracula Untold is one of my favorite movies. The battle scenes are epic, the movie is fairly historically accurate, and Luke Evans plays Vlad the Impaler well. Dracula is just a badass in this movie. I love Dracula Untold, and think that it's a very underrated masterpiece.

It's funny how people are bashing this movie for "Historical Inaccuracy". Yeah this is a story about vampires and shit, you know....real life! That's like me bashing Godzilla because giant monsters don't exist, or bashing Captain America because there was no such thing as a "Hydra" group.

Dumbass detected! The irony is the fact the main character vlad the impaler is based on a REAL historical figure! If you're going to make a movie based on a real life historical figure then atleast respect the historical accuracy something this movie did not. The movie portrays vlad as this monster even before he became dracula when in reality he was just a man trying to safe his kingdom from ottomans by doing any means necessary.

I loved this movie. We shouldn't judge it by its source material or historical accuracy, we should judge it by its cinematography. Is it predictable? Hell yeah, but who cares as long as it's well developed, and it sure was. It had a good performance from Luke Evans and Charles Dance (aka Tywin from Game of Thrones) was wonderfull and scary. What no one seems to comment about is the visual aspect of the film, which I thought it was great. The CGI was very good for a movie of this type, and the lights, props, sets were beautiful. The battle scenes were badass, and the shaky cam actually worked well on them, they were really well crafted and I saw some original stuff there going on like battle happening in the reflex of the sword. Also, the prologue had some epic stuff going on that reminded me of 300, very artistic and cool. In the end, I found it a very solid and entertaining movie (apart from some cheesy scenes) and I would watch it again.
@FutileGrief
@FutileGrief 10 лет назад
My thoughts exactly!! It also has a couple of plot holes as the reviewer said (like, instead of hanging around waiting for God knows what, go do your bat thing and keep killing them Turks without wasting your freaking time), but you're right, the cinematography and art direction is just breath-taking. Luje Evans did a wonderful job, and I'm very picky with my Draculas!
@DCFHazardRebornChannel
@DCFHazardRebornChannel 10 лет назад
FutileGrief dont know if you have the patience to read my comment I just posted, but I comment on that "waiting around" part. I was expecting this since I had seen the review... But, umm... It didnt happen. 1) He made a promise to never leave their side again. 2) First he sees them, then he discovers another power with the bats and uses them to attack, 3) he attacks, like stated, long before they reach the castle, so he didnt really waste time, 4) gets ahead of himself and goes down in the battle himself, breaking his promise, which can also be seen as a moral plot, which later leads to everything else that happened. So yeah, really didn't get where that "waiting around" was gotten from. The scene were he sees them and the scene were he gathers the bats are literally right after each other. o.O Unless if you guys mean that he should have simply left the moment the sun went down to find them and kill them all.... which for me would have been a way bigger plot hole. He just made his promise to never leave them again. lol. So what now he goes away even longer leaving them to who knows what fate? Wouldn't have made sense.
@DCFHazardRebornChannel
@DCFHazardRebornChannel 10 лет назад
FutileGrief oh, speaking of plot holes, what I found to be silly, not really a plot hole, was the blindfolds. LOL. wtf was that? >.< Which went into a scene that did have a plot hole.... They went to a secluded mountain to weaken the enemies vast numbers and siege equipment... and it seems that there is a huge "roadway" leading up right to them. Maybe at the end of that there is a mountain and it was hard to attack it? Didn't do the best job to show it I think so I'm kinda putting it in my plot hole list. I mean they give us the impression the place is so tight that they would need months to defeat the Turks with normal strategy.... Then they show it as if the Turks could simply waltz right up to them. lol. What months? It seemed that they would be dead after a couple days tops. Other than that this film was awesome. Loved the visuals especially. Very original too and I've been waiting for a vampire film to do justice to Dracula in an action flick way for ages.

HazaRDReborN I would have to watch the movie again. But if I remember correctly, there's half a day (or even a whole day!) missing from they three day power rampage. Let's say he awoke in the river on day 1 at 5:00 pm (haha let's suppose). He learns about his powers and that night he goes and kills the first thousand turks by himself. Then they go travel, they set up the tents, wake up next morning, tells her wife what's going on, they go on travelling, and he waits for the sun to go down. When he leaves the tents, let's say at 5:00 pm, that makes the first one whole day. Ok, he fights some more turks, more war, yada yada, then they reach the castle, by dawn, right? The village freaks out finding out who he is, something happens, his wife dies, 5:00 pm, and the second day finishes. So he said "fuck it" on day just because her wife told him to? He could of just fight the whole day three, and *then* if he runs out of time, then choose eternal damnation, why not, Haha. And why didn't he make the clouds behave the way the did since the beginning to fight all the time instead of waiting for nightfall? I have to watch the movie again because I'm not entirely sure, I saw it a while ago. And yeah, the blindfolds made little sense to me. I think it's along the theory of "men don't fear swords, they fear monsters", and they would be freak out by something preternatural. So maybe that was the Sultan's attempt at making fear their bitch and not let them be surprised or frightened by anything they've never seen before. I mean, meh, not incredibly relevant but oh well. I agree, the effects were not overwhelming and didn't seem fake, they looked incredible. I've never thought of a Dracula in an action film. I actually get a bit bored on action scenes, but man, these ones were so good! Damn I need to watch this again
@DCFHazardRebornChannel
@DCFHazardRebornChannel 10 лет назад
FutileGrief yeah the blindfolds were completely excused/explained in the film. It just seemed silly to me because... well.... they wouldn't have been able to fight "Bruce Lee Shaolin Monk Blind Fold style" alone, let alone as an entire regiment. lol. From what I gathered, and I was actually expecting a play on this and maybe I am wrong but that is how it came across to me. When Dracula, or any Vampire, drinks blood, they get (to put it in simple gaming terms) a power "buff". I am guessing that these powers and extremities of the Vampire nature were unknown to him before this moment. I mean, he went ape-shit the moment he drank her blood... Even the clouds were ape-shit, with figures and shadows of a demon in them. First Night I would have to assume was the night he turned, that is why he said to him 3 days not days and nights, but then this is open to interpretation since we all say 3 days and simply mean both. Anyway. Way I understood it -> 1st Night = He turns 1st day = The first attack. 2nd Night = Attack in the woods/cliffs. 2nd Day = They burn Him 3rd Night = The 2nd attack and his wife dies. 3rd Day = Drinks her blood and kills them all. My guess is that this was going to be his last day, and without that extra "buff" there was absolutely nothing he could do other than wait for the night to come, at which point the powers should have left him, he would have lost, and it all would have been for nothing :( Maybe I counted it wrong. Anyway, I doubt he really wanted to lose those powers too after she died. I mean come on, lets face it, he simply wanted to be Dracula for eternity :P Who wouldn't :D Her dying was a great excuse for him to think "Fk this, I lost my wife already, why live a weak tormented mortal life with no vengeance and without her by my side, when I can live an immortal life of unfathomable power, all the vengeance I can get, and again without her..." Pain is too great? Well then he can commit suicide as he did, lol. I think when he awoke he came to his senses and embraced this darkness as a part of him and cherished it. He did after all accept his "renaming" to Dracula, the son of the devil. lol, which kinda shows to me he is starting to have a lot of fun with these powers :) Fast forward to todays time, he don't look too shabby. One can guess he had a great tale to tell after all ;) Edit- Another run I am thinking now is (I think I skipped a part thats why) Night 0 = He turns 1st day = Finds about his powers. 1st Night = 1st Attack 2nd Day = The camp, were his wife finds out about him and he stays behind to sleep. 2nd Night = Attack in the woods/cliffs. 3rd Day = They burn Him. 3rd Night = The 2nd attack and his wife dies. Yeah I think this second timeline is more right. I skipped the whole 1st day in my 1st account. The moment he drank his wifes blood was actually the beginning of the 4th day. 1 day to learn his powers, 1 day to sleep it off in the camp, and 1 day to burn him and everyone learn of his powers. At which point, he actually riiiiiight on time about it and perhaps a second later it would have been too late. They didn't do a great job making this obvious I agree. He should have said something like "This is my last night" or something, not just "when the sun rises my powers leave me", which is what he said and although now I see he meant his powers completely leave him, I thought he meant that it was simply day and he had to wait again. Anyways. Now that whole talk between them that they will do anything they possibly can even when the day comes makes more sense too, as they were talking about him becoming human again and this was all the time he had left..... They really should have worded it a little better I think.

"Knowing what we know about Dracula, it takes some of the tension out of the movie." Well, you can say the exact same thing about a number of films that we know the details of the story it is based on. People enjoyed Titanic despite the fact we know the ship sinks for example. Personally, I liked the movie and would have liked to see a sequel. It's better than the Mummy reboot for sure.

The real story (There were MANY more such flaws in the movie.., but this is all from the top of my head) 1. Vlad as a Royal hostage was treated as a prince in the Ottoman house hold .. not beaten, nor were the Jannisary soldiers. You don't make loyal soldiers by beating them 2. Vlad and Mehmet were NEVER friends, Mehmet was really good friends with Vlads younger brother RADU *which wasn't even mentionned a single time in this movie* 3. ONLY REASON VLAD WAS PRINCE OF WALLACHIA, was because the Turks gave his father the throne, and when his father was killed (by king Hunyadi and the rebellious Boyars) and his brother was blinded and buried alive the Turks took back Wallachia and gave it to Vlad 4. In reality Vlad hated Mehmet who later became Sultan because Mehmet was friends with Radu and not with him, Vlad was a psycho that enjoyed torturing animals and treated everyone like shit 5. When the Ottomans came to collect tax *THEY NEVER ASKED FOR VLADS SON* or a 1000 young boys, the entire point of putting Vlad on the throne was for him to supply men and join the Ottoman army when requested/needed and pay tax. His father had also fought along side the Ottoman army. In return they got a massive amount of autonomy and had complete self rule. (Kinda like a feudal knight) 6. Instead of paying his tax Vlad had the hats of the tax collectors nailed to their head and then tortured them to death. He claimed they were disrespectful and wouldn't take of their hat in reality he just did not want to pay tax. He sent their corpses to Istanbul as a underhanded declaration of war 7. He then *SLAUGHTERED* innocent *CHRISTIAN* Boyars, because he considered them traitors and literally nearly exterminated them. He also dressed as a Turkish Sipahi (knight) and then raided villages and infiltrated small Turkish army encampments (he spoke fluent Turkish) then had his men infiltrate the camps at knight and slaughter the small groups of soldiers. 8. Eventually the Sultan sent men, he had entire forests of impaled men, women and Children Mostly Boyars and others that he deemed traitors and some Turkish soldiers he had killed. The stench and horror of this instilled fear on the Ottoman soldiers and he would wage small guerrilla attacks constantly. When it got winter and the supply lines cut off the Ottomans had to retreat. 9. Vlad worked together with King Hunyadi .. same guy who had killed his father, blinded and burried his older brother alive. 9. Later his younger brother Radu who had become a Muslim, was sent by the Sultan inc a better equipped and trained army. Vlad was defeated by Radu. Vlad ran to his allies, who imprisoned him out of fear of the Ottomans. Vlads brother Radu became king of Wallachia and ruled for 13 year while Vlad rotted away in a dungeon. 10. Radu suddenly died and Vlad was let go again, he tried to start a rebellion in Wallachia, failed miserably, was caught by the Turks. His head was chopped off, put on a pike and sent to Istanbul Some other interesting facts. Vlad was trained by the best Turkish soldiers and fought like a Turk, used a Turkish Kilic/Scimitar not a straight blade 95% of Vlads victims were Christian boyars and other Christians Vlad would regularly attack and raid his Christian neighbors and massacre entire villages dressed as an Sipahi massacring and impaling tens of thousands. He partly did this to try and get them to fight the Ottomans but mostly because he enjoyed the murder. They found out and it was a large part of the reason why he was imprisoned as a traitor Mehmet *NEVER* fought Vlad or even went to Wallachia .. he actually conquered Istanbul/Constantinople and was know as Fatih Mehmet Han (Khan Mehmet the Conqueror) According to Russian and German historical accounts of the time, Vlads cruelty was unmatched. He would drink the blood of innocents, make mother watch their babies get ripped apart, rape, murder, torture on a daily basis. ETC. .. *not OTTOMAN/TURKISH sources but GERMAN AND RUSSIAN* ... He is considered a hero in some parts of eastern Europe only because of retarded post WW1/WW2 Romanticism and Nationalism

this is correct for the most part. Vlads significance seems to have been over exaggerated to the point where people claim he stopped the Ottoman advance - but Wallachia was a vassal state after his death and Hungary etc were conquered. It was Seige of Vienna in the late c17th that stopped Ottoman advance further into Europe. However it should be said that Dracul and his son Dracula did not owe his throne merely to the Ottomans - he had a claim on it whether they aided him or not. You're making it sound as if they completely owed their throne to the Turks. The Wallachian throne was beset with issues because of too many claimants who were all branches of the House of Basarab. Vlad II was a son og Mircea the Great. Also, Vlad II spent time at the court of Sigismund who created the Order of the Dragon of ehich Vlad II was a member hence his soubrequet Dracul/the dragon. Sigismund the king of Hungary and Holy Roman Emperor recognised Vlad II Dracul as rightful claiment to the Wallachian throne. His first Voivodship was with HUNGARIAN AND HRE support. But due to Sigismund's death in 1436 Vlad II had an unstable position and so paid homage to sultan Murad II. Do you not think this would be because he was vulnerable not by choice? He was also taken captive by the Ottomans in 1442 qnd had to give his sons Vlad and Radu as political hostages. It was quite possible they would be killed so Vlad II's hands were tied as he was under Ottoman control in his second reign of 1443. This is diplomatic necessary but I doubt he would want to work with the Ottomans. He sent aid to the Varna Crusade too and captured an Ottoman fortess in 1445. He had to tow the line again after this for the sake of self preservation. However this caused bad relations with Hunyadi of Transylvania who drove him out in 1447 and death. In other words the Wallachian Voivodes were always between a rock and a hard place. Again since Dracula had a claim - that had nothing to do with the Ottomans as he would whether they helped him or not. You make ut sound as if they were upstarts who owed all to the Ottomans which is not the case.

In my opinion, Bram Stoker's Dracula, is the best. It shows that Dracula (played fantastically by Gary Oldman) is this creature of darkness, though some part of him still is human. He's an animal but also misunderstood. He's the devil's creation but also worthy of redemption. Also, the film has a great supporting cast, musical score, and it delves into all the true-Victorian-Gothic style that we love! A review? Please? :)

Jeremy, a small correction. Just saw the film... About the "they are coming and my powers will be gone at sunrise" part. He wasn't waiting around. He wanted a moment with his wife and keeping his promise (I'll explain later). Also, he only just saw them. I had seen this review and was waiting for this part of the film to see how stupid it was, but, I think you misunderstood it or maybe mixed it up with the first attack they do on the first castle? Here is what went down (Spoilers for those who didn't see it?) The moment he sees them, and talks to his wife, he is still under the impression that he needs to hunt them down on by one (like the first night) and also had just made a promise to his son he will never leave him again. At this point he discovers his communication/control of the bats, then gathers them and pretty much wrecks havoc on them on the spot... Then gets blood drunk (so to speak, lol) and heads down himself as well (which kinda breaks his promise and leads to all the rest that happens). I'm thinking you read into that part wrong. What baffled me though was, again in that scene, the location. I mean, wtf? Didn't they go to a secluded mountain place were the other guys couldn't attack them in numbers or lay siege? Where they would fight in the woods and something something? Then we see this huge "roadway" leading up to their doorstep which I'm sorry but they might as well have marched elephants phalanxes in there, let alone siege weapons. Other than that I found the film being great. Actors were a little too camera conscious at points, some directing imaging was a little on the cheesy side, but way less than I expected. I expected it to have so many wrongs. But overall, it was actually an awesome film. Loved the story arc they created too, as predictable as it was which is normal really I mean come on, its Dracula, we know who Dracula is and pretty much got the whole story from the trailer. "Vlad meets a vampire and becomes Dracula to save his people..." Didn't expect any surprises really. And I assumed that his permanent turning was going to be in that way too (well, as I watched I actually thought that both wife and kid would die and from his rage he would willingly turn for vengeance sake... which is wrong but not too far off either I guess. The imagery was awesome, reminded me a lot of Legacy of Kain to be honest (especially the turning into bats power) however I was disappointed that it didn't have much blood in it. I mean, its a Dracula movie for crying out loud, we got more blood in 300 and even in TV shows (Oberyn getting his skull crushed, ouch). I'd personally say this film is worthy of a Buy it on Blue Ray rating. My favourite Dracula film to date from now on, with all its short comings. Mostly the imagery had me at hello. It sets a vampire mood the way I have been waiting to see it for aaaages yet never got it (Castlevania and Legacy of Kain look that is). Bram Stokers Dracula was too much story (which is VERY fitting as well, especially the love story part) but nothing that gave us any awe for Dracula, I mean he even gets killed in it. We have never gotten an action Dracula film with such visual quality till now, thank god, the wait is over. Wish they could make a sequel after all yet now with a more "sophisticated" and plot-twisting story... And an added love story too, that is what was mostly powerful about Bram Stokers Dracula. It's all that was missing from this film but thats ok since it did feel like it focused on the awesome part of a Dracula story, that being, him becoming Dracula. When you have that plot to deal with, there really isn't too many ways you can go about it other than the way they did it (there are some minor fixes to be had, but nothing special). One can only hope that the last "games" phrase of the film lives to such expectations for a sequel to add a lot more depth into it;) p.s, I actually found a lot of emotion for the character they put together, more than I thought I would, and the added vengeance thing made that emotion and his damnation more vivid too, they portrayed his sacrifice greatly I think and it really came across really well for an action flick.

***** It's because vampirism generally doesn't have any 'good' connotations, it's a curse, a disease, which is why they are mainly villains. They are corpses rising from the grave with an insatiable blood thirst that transforms them into monsters but they can still be fun and interesting characters. Jerry Dandrige from the original Fright Night is great example.

Since they just announced that this is no longer canon to the Universal Monsters reboot I wanna say that although the movie had also of issues I liked Luke Evans and what he could do as Dracula like controlling or turning into bats, that look he gets when he sucks the blood out of his wife and enemy looked like a badass vampire. Sucks that can't be used anymore, cool design but wrong place in the wrong time.

I loved this movie, was it the most amazing movie to come out lately, definitely not, but a solid film over all. It accomplished something most films haven't gone into, the orgins of dracula, and while it fabricated many aspects and strayed from the historical lore dracula fans know. I still enjoyed it. Things I wish they would of gone into more though was 1. Dracula's opposition to religion he was actually a devout person as seen early in the movie by him making a pact to god to maintain peace and live a different life. All of a sudden he's in opposition because he is a vampire and forsakes god (stand up! prayers do not win wars!). What would of been interesting is to see him this devout person who falls because of his son being taken. You can tell there is a bit of that but they don't go into it enough that makes his reluctance of faith kind of left field. 2. I won't spoil the ending, but I'm not entirely pleased. You would think Dracula asserting his dominance would be enough to be like "holy shit... we should listen to this guy" instead they (if you've seen the movie you know who they are) try to rebel, and I felt they honestly could of gone a few other routes like the Sultan "killing him" but he comes back or various other routes other then the one they went with "Sun Ex Machina". THIS PART IS ABOUT THE ENDING AND I TRY TO STEER FROM *SPOILERS* BUT THERE ARE SOME SO DON'T READ PAST THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT *SPOILERS* 3. Cool Vampire in today!.... What the hell happened to the son other then him taking his place? Basically Dracula devotes his life to his son, but then is like "ya thats good, later I'm going to find your mom 100's of years in the future".... I felt that was just a weird route, on top of that the ending, Dracula wasn't brought back just to live and do songs and dances. I wanted to see more of his evil doings through out history or at least some darkness. This Dracula they created was way too good and I never felt a real light and dark struggle with him, what it really was was light and hunger struggle which was disappointing. 4. I would of really wanted to see his character be some crooked C.E.O taking over business or doing some morale grey area shit. Or even if he was like some arms dealer or something that was a bit more on the dark side. Just him wandering around the streets in black was a bit of a let down to me and honestly didn't make much sense to me in terms of Dracula's lore. They tried so hard to make this guy admirable and have the crowed sympathize with him, that I felt they also missed some of the conflicting sides of his deep character.

@alphaenvy

Well from my understanding basically the one that turns you it is your ultimate goal to kill him for giving you miserable existence of eternity as a vampire. It's the same sense of hatred the vampire that gave his Dracula felt towards the one that turned him. Now I assume that he thinks Dracula will do the same to him, and before he can kill him, he will kill Dracula. Just as he felt Dracula would eventually give in to the thirst even though Vlad was adamant that he would beat the thirst.

For me, there's only one vampire film: "Dracula" (1931) No one will ever top Bela Lugosi. As for "Dracula: Untold", even from just the trailer, it seems very gimmicky. It's basically taking a very fictionalized Vlad the Impaler and having him become Dracula. Why, Hollywood? Everyone knows Vlad inspired Stoker to write "Dracula", but why have him actually be Dracula in a film? You don't need to. He was frightening enough as he was. This is the guy who said, "My enemies are approaching. You know what my front yard needs? People writhing on sticks. That'll scare 'em off."

TheaterRaven Vlad impaling or torturing his enemies has nothing to do with beeing crazy,it was common tactic back then to kill your enemies,actually the Turks were the ones who used impaling as torture first and their method was much more brutal.(they drove a sharp stick up your ass through your body and it came out of your mouth,Vlad impaled people through their guts) The guy is actually considered a national hero in Romania,because he fought the Osmanic Empire with success,using guerilla tactics and psychological warfare).Vlad was just a realist,you wanna survive against an invading Empire,that uses brutal force against you?Be ten times more brutal,than you have a chance.I would compare him to Lord Tywin from ''GoT''.

Senior Adrian You do realize that the original novel never said that Dracula and Vlad were the same person. Why? Because Dracula is a fictional character, he's a vampire. And though Vlad protected his people, that doesn't justify impairing people (which is thought to have been a horribly slow way to die) I mean historians say he used have his meals outside so he could watch it happen, sorry but but you gotta be a sadist if you wanna watch people suffer and die while you eat.

The movie was combining Vlad the Impaler's famous legend and the vampires we all know. I love how they brought back the traditional vampire traits, well most of them. In history he was in fact the original Dracula, but we wasn't a demon, he was a blood drinking maniac, who loves to impale his victims on spikes. Bram Stoker wrote the Dracula book and it's pretty cool to read, but the movie version of the book, Dracula looked too cheesy.

Axel Reigns I saw the remake a few years ago, about a month or so after it's release. It was by no means anything special, but it served it's purpose in terms of suspense and jump-scare horror. The acting was pretty shotty and the writing was god awful (especially when compared to the original book and movie.). If you're looking for a scary vampire film, I guess it's sufficient, but I prefer the original by far. The reason I love LtROI so much is because it manages to set up such a horrofying plot, without exploiting the typical vampire tropes. The first movie in a long time that actually inspired me to read a book lol.

Coppola's film did stick to the source material more than a lot of Dracula movies, but there were also some major departures (i.e. pretty much anything regarding Mina) that negate that good will for me. And I'd argue that the most accurate film adaptation of Dracula would be Nosferatu - you know, the movie that was going to be an adaptation, except that Stoker's wife said no and then tried to get every print destroyed? That movie.

***** I had just heard recently that Coppala wanted to use as little to no cgi effects for that film and his original special effects team said it could no be done if he wanted the film done his was, that they needed to use cgi of the time to get the job done. So he fired them on the spot and hired his son's department (Although it sounds like favoritism, he was right to do so.) Everything was done old school practical with force perspective shots, miniature foregrounds and matt-painting backgrounds, reversed photography just to name a few. Good to see a director do what had to be done.

Was it a bad movie? No. Was it legendary Lord of The RIngs-style awesomeness? No. For what it is it's a good movie. There's a lot of emotion involved in that this guy who had this really crappy past is trying to regain his life and live as a decent human being and then it all gets shat on by Dominic Cooper. There's some decent action and tension but the thing that sold me was the ending. When Drac is standing in modern-day London (i think it's London) it kind of sews the seeds of a possible sequel set in the modern day so we can get a modernista twist on the Dracula story. I really hope they do this because I really enjoyed Luke Evans and Charles Dance's performances.

George Havenhand He worked with Hungary. But when he needed help from them, they were already under suzerainty of Ottoman Empire and they prisoned him. That's it. He was a jealous, sadistic monster that slaughtered people. The legend of him being a vampire/monster first started in Germany, Russia, and Hungary. Only people that believes he is a hero is Romanians. So no, he wasn't a defender of Europe. (Sorry for my bad grammar, English is not my mother tongue.)

A Nerd I don't believe he is a hero, I just said he defended Europe against the Ottomans, which he did.
@iuffcgpuu

George Havenhand Why can't you prove your point? I didn't say you think he is a hero. I just said him being a scary, terrible monster myth started in Europe. (And Russia too but that's not my point) He did nothing to defend Europe. He just caused some trouble to Ottoman Empire and if you think this is defending Europe, well I wouldn't agree, because with that logic, Ottoman Empire was the defender of Russia because they fought the same enemy, for their own good of course, in the past. But still, I mean if that's why you wanna believe that, even though it doesn't make much sense, that's still your point of view so okay... I guess. But saying Vlad is the defender of Europe makes Europe look bad more than anything.

I love the *idea* of Dracula, vampires, human/demon hybrid sort of jazz, but I can't think of a single movie about vampires that I've ever actually enjoyed that much. It's really weird, but I seriously don't know of any decent ones at all. I've read some decent vamp novels, even found an anime that did vampires really well (ten points to Hellsing for that one, awesome show), but no movies. I can't tell if maybe Im just not as into them as I seem to think I am, which is unlikely, or there just aren't any good vampire movies.
@FutileGrief
@FutileGrief 10 лет назад
It's a fascinating topic but interestingly enough, there aren't many *good* vampire movies. Have you watched "Bram Stoker's Dracula"? I think that sets the bar way up, it's perfect, but very theatrical, so if you're not into that sort of stuff, don't bother. Another great one is Interview With The Vampire. Actually, the series Dracula with Jonathan Rhys Meyers ( i think I mispelled his name), is fantastic! Well, classic vampire films have an extra spice of goodness in them. But besides those, the rest are very mediocre. Dracula 2000 is one of the worst movies ever created, and don'teven get me started on Twilight. There are also cowboy vampires everywhere, I don't get why people like them so much. Lost boys, not my cuo if tea either haha. But anyway, check the first ones I mentioned out, you may like them
@A-Duck
@A-Duck 10 лет назад
FutileGrief I have seen Bram Stokers, and I get that it's a classic and all that, but didn't particularly grab me for a few reasons. It had everything I really love about vampire mythology, but it also kept all the tropes I personally dislike. It's the full package, true to the source material, which is both a pro and a con for me. Only one I haven't seen that you mentioned is Interview With the Vampire, which sounds interesting enough, might give it a squizz later. Cheers. And yeah, what the literal missionary fuck is up with that whole "cowboy vampire" thing? It's bizarre.

But why!!! What is wrong with this movie? What actually is in the plot that makes this a bad movie. Everywhere I look people say they wish it was more over the top, more darker, more bloodier, but no one actually says what is wrong with the movie itself. Is there any part of the plot that makes it a bad film, what plot elements, scenes and dialogue could have been changed to make it better. Could someone please tell me that and not "oh its just not good."?

this movie should have been rated R, the fight scenes were sadly cut in such a terrible way to get the pg13. which is a shame cause i enjoyed this movie for what it was, but it couldve been better if they had both more time to develop characters and were allowed to go full vampire

30 Days of Night! That was an awesome vampire movie. No vampires falling in love or glowing in the sun or going on some quest. They were just undead monsters who wanted to drink some blood. Plain. Simple. Scary. How vampire movies should be.

Badger with a troubled past and nothing to lose I know right?! Why do people get them confused to begin with?! I guess it's because of all the stupid campy crap that's cheapened the original story over the years. **shrug** But I don't recall Vlad The Impaler drinking blood or turning into bats either. lol

Badger with a troubled past and nothing to lose OBJECTION! the movie openly links/ advertises dracula's real world connection with Vlad the impaler, so at the very least, this picture's portrayal should be consistent with its real world counterpart

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this one Jeremy, I actually thought that this movie was just a little more unpredictable than you give it credit for, but that's just me. While I did think it was kinda obvious that he (SPOILER but not really) drinks the blood, I didn't really see it coming the way it did. I also didn't really think the ending was gonna go down as it did, but this is all just my thoughts on it. In the end it was a good movie, but I felt that Vlad's relationship with his wife, and the the sultan wasn't really explored enough to have any emotional meaning, and I really didn't feel the emotional tug I was probably supposed to feel when the more expendable secondary characters died. In the end it was a better movie than most critics are currently giving it credit for, but it wasn't anything revolutionary or ground breaking.

The first Blade movie is my favorite vampire movie of all time. I know this is going to conjure the piss storm of 2014, but I kind of liked the last few movies of the Twilight saga, simply because of all the badass powers of the vampires. (Specifically Dakota Fanning's power.)

Pipo De Clown Oh trust me, those "movies" make me want to hurl as well, but I can't deny the interesting abilities put to screen. I can only really think of such powers normally being limited to anime/manga, or cartoons/comics. It's neat to see how well they pulled them off. As a former fan of Naruto (Yeah, I went through that phase.) I have to applaud how well they pulled off an uchiha with Dakota Fanning's power. C:

....of course the movie is predictable. It is the story of Vlad the Impaler fighting the turks and then everyone that's seen the 1992 movie knows what happens to his wife. The movie wasnt going for being unpredictable, it went for being different by giving the character a different light. Vlad wasnt a villain, he was doing what he could for his people after the hard live he had after being kidnapped by the turks as a kid.

My favorite vampire movie is 30 Days of Night, those vampires are the strongest ones I've seen that don't use any powers at all, they are just stronger. They were actually scary and were treated like an honest to god monster, not an anti-hero, or love interest, or sexy villain. They were good ol' fashioned evil beings that needed to be destroyed no matter the cost and were revolting, like the first vampires of folklore.
