Thanks for the video! I am a bit worried about adding my paperback to D2D because of the issues you mentioned. I didn't go wide with my trilogy to start with (D2D didn't have paperback then anyway), and now I'm about to upload my paperbacks, but they've been on Amazon for a while. Fingers crossed no issues come up! (I've never used the expanded distribution on Amazon, which maybe I should have since I wasn't anywhere else).

It's not a big issue, honestly. Just click "publish" within seconds or minutes of each other on KDP and D2D or IngramSpark and I've never had any issues 😄 Expanded distribution is for those who want to use Amazon to go wide - I don't think this is best because retailers don't like it and also you miss out on library reach. Would be nice if KDP reached everywhere...more monopoly... 😆

D2D is the poorest of the formatting tools, in my opinion. The only advantage it has over its free rival Kindle Create, for example, is the many template styles on offering; that's the only plus. The huge problem with it is you can't manually adjust like you can in Atticus, Kindle Create, inDesign, and good old Word, of course. You can't add text into copyright, as you can in Kindle Create (also free). D2D doesn't read a dateline when you upload your doc and thinks it's the first line. And again, you can't adjust manually. Other formatting tools are far superior - having used many.

Hi, Andy! Thanks for the video. I published my print book with D2D but I can't set up the Books2Read link bc I don't see it yet on retailers like Barnes & Nobles, etc. How long did it take for you to find your print book on those online retailers, and how do I see where they're all listed?

Hey Sharmin! the eBooks shouldn't take too long (depends on the outlet that D2D distributes to on how long it actually takes) so you can get the Books2Read links set up for those faster than other formats. For the paperback, as far as I understand it, it's really difficult to say how long it will take. In my experience, this has typically been weeks to months - definitely not days. Best bet would be to reach out to D2D support (who are absolutely fantastic, they reply very quickly!) to get a better idea on when you can get paperback formats added to your Books2Read links. Hope this helps - and do let us know how you get on!

I have just published a book on D2D that I also sell on Amazon. I have a free Amazon ISBN and selected a free one also on D2D. Will this become a conflict?

Very informative, thanks! But can they actually print books with images in it? Or should go to other services if you need colour

They do print images, but I'm not sure I've seen the printing in colour option. Best confirm with d2d directly on that one! Their contact us web page is where I contact them, and their team are very responsive (allow for weekends or holidays for a slower response), I've always heard back within 24 to 48 hours. Great video! After you send the ebook to be published, can you tell me how many days on average it takes for it to be published and for the published status to appear on d2d?

It depends is the answer! My personal experience is it doesn't take long to get to big retailers like Apple, but libraries take weeks or months! Only D2D and the retailers can say when an ebook will go live 😉

Hi Andy. Am a christian fiction author that has already written two books both in english and swedish and published them to amazon kdp. I am thinking of publishing them on Draft2Digital as well, and i have my own ISBN's for all of them, so if i publish on D2D, and they are already published on amazon, do i have to confirm that they are already on amazon, or do i need to confirm on both platforms that my books use the same ISBN's? Even if i have my own ISBN's and have published on amazon, can i use the same ISBN's i own for those books, to the books published on D2D? Sorry for the complicated questions, i just want to do the right thing. - Daniel.

Hi Daniel! The best-practice is to use the SAME ISBN for the same format of books. If you've ticked "expanded distribution" on KDP, and you want to use other platforms like D2D or IngramSpark to distribution wide, you may encounter an "ISBN-already-in-use" issue. I haven't encountered this myself so cannot offer more on this, unfortunately. The best thing I can suggest is contact D2D's excellent customer support and see what they recommend, and go from there. Hello. About the ISBN. I'd like to make my own copyright page and have the free ISBN already in it. Would they show you the ISBN they assigned to your book?

Does anyone know how to make a manuscript file after creating an ebook from canva?

It depends what kind of book you're trying to create I think. Canva has pdf download, for example, and that can be used for paperbacks and hardcovers (just an example). If you're doing low / no content, then there probably won't be a need for the ebook-version of that low/no content book in my opinion. Good luck!

Thanks! Sorry, you lost me at the end when you say "Just be sure to use your own ISBN"...Did you mean for the D2D Print + Amazon Print Book (having the same one)? And then are you also using your own for the D2D ebook too? Thank you ....

Yup! I use my own isbn's for the d2d print + kdp paperback (as well as ebook for d2d and kdp) :)

@@SelfPubWithAndy thanks! I wonder about ship times for print books…d2d vs Ingram…I feel like d2d is slow….not sure if ingrown is faster….any ideas? Have you tried printing paper with Ingram?

@calliopelove I don't have any experience directly with ingramspark, personal choice not to use them 😉 D2D print uses ingramspark's network so I'd imagine the times should be about the same? Best suggestion I've got is reach out to d2d support - they're very responsive!

@@SelfPubWithAndyok thanks! I did email d2d. They said ..Orders are estimated to print within 10-14 days and shipping can be anywhere from 5 days to 2-3 weeks, depending on service selected and shipping address location. Books are printed in the US and abroad depending.

My manuscript was 178 pages long when I uploaded to D2D I only had 68 pages? Why won’t it accept our original font size

It's very clunky, D2D, and a major issue with it - compared to other formatting software, even Kindle Create - is that you cannot adjust text manually, or even add text.

I'm not sure if they do public domain, d2d is an aggregator so it may be up to their partners and distributors. Best thing to do is ask d2d's support, they will be able to tell you more 😀

@@SelfPubWithAndy Hi, Once when I uploaded with word doc the pages overlap one another. For example, the is one page about one subject, than new page is supposed to be written but it starts on the first page than it goes to the second. I want every page, subject to have it's story without other story starting on first page at the bottom than continue on the next page. Hope you understand what I mean. Thanks for your response... I am re writing my first book in a landscape page instead of portrait and using a word doc instead of a pdf. Hope it works for me this time. Landscape page, because it fits better with images and text next to it...

@Phoenix.334 sounds like that was the eBook format. Ebook is reflowable, meaning the reader can change font, font size, and this will change the eBook page count so yes, you will end up with some chapters starting earlier or ending later as a result of this. For paperback, use the pdf and I've never had any issues. I don't know of a solution for the eBook, readers like their reflowable content and I don't want to mess with that. I suggest reaching out to d2d support, they may have a solution!
