You keep fighting at your end, and we Librarians will keep fighting at ours. I’m currently organising yet another drag story time that will likely attract protestors AGAIN 😢
@@thatcitrusfriend6234 What specifically makes it problematic? The parents in the audience, the encouraging children to read, or the fact that professional entertainers are making reading fun and magical? What part is "problematic"?
@@Matt-fl8uy the part where we give random people access to kids without background checking them, and are reading stories that are inappropriate? if that wasn't what was happening I'd be fine with it in all honestly (but as we know, people love to ruin and exploit things like this) generally too, drag should be adult entertainment (the majority of it is and always has been)
@@thatcitrusfriend6234 The parents are sitting right besides their kids for these shows, why would we need background checks when the parents are present? Also, what books (please provide titles and where/when they were read) are inappropriate? If they are inappropriate, why did the parents who are sitting right there not say anything? To be clear, it's obvious that you've NEVER been to a drag story time.
@@Matt-fl8uy To be clear - you're generalizing all drag story times and only basing this issue on personal experience. Like I said, people love to ruin and exploit things like this when there's no boundaries. Parents being present would be a good compromise if a lot of them didn't also find the inappropriate books acceptable. Also, it's just good practice to make sure people who are going to be near your kids don't have a criminal history (in an official setting, like the library, obviously you don't do that to people on the street). That's common sense. Some examples of books, since you wanted a list: This Book Is Gay Out of Darkness l8r g8r All Boys Aren’t Blue It’s Perfectly Normal Lawn Boy Jack of Hearts Crank Lucky A Court of Mist and Fury
The stars of We’re Here are basically real life super heroes, I’m grateful for our Canadian queen to pick up the mantle and fight on the frontlines for our rights.
ITS ALSO OUR PART TO MAKE SURE OUR LOCAL EVENTS HIRE DRAG ARTISTS THAT ARE APPROPRIATE FOR THE VENUE!!! NOT ALL DRAG IS FAMILY FRIENDLY! HIRE YOUR PERFORMERS WISELY SO WE DONT LOOK BAD!
It’s so stupid that they are trying to ban drag. Someone please correct me if I’m incorrect here but wouldn’t that be limiting your freedom of expression? Like on the outside it’s legit just clothes and makeup that some people wear for fun or as an art form.
@@lucyinthesky4682I understand that they don’t care but they definitely should 💀 the first amendment has some of the most memorable cases ever in my opinion and is one of the most well known amendments. I guess they where just in a silly goofy mood 🤪
Nope. Just everyday people living their lives to the fullest and knowing what makes them happy. "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself" Leviticus 19:18
