If any SUV is going to beat our beloved Tesla Model Y Performance in a drag race, it better well be the Lamborghini Urus. Our Model Y has beat an impressive list of competitors, including the BMW X3 M, Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S, Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and even a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Its only real challenge has come from our 2020 Chevy Corvette.
In this drag-racing video, we bring the Lamborghini Urus supercar (or super SUV?) out to the track against the Tesla Model Y. The Urus is a fighter jet of an SUV, with a fastback roofline, massive 22-inch wheels, and enough speed to make Maverick and Goose jealous. With a top speed of 190 mph and a 0-60 mph time of around 3 seconds, the Urus is one of the quickest SUVs on the planet. Can the electric Model Y possibly keep up with that kind of power? What is the Lamborghini Urus' 0-60 mph time and how does it compare to the Model Y's? We answer these questions and a whole lot more. In the Tesla’s I have learned that you need to get the pedal to the floor literally as fast as you can in order to get Tempe hardest launch from a dig. The faster and more dramatically you slam the pedal the more responsive and harder it launches. This guy is like half asleep he could step on that pedal much quicker. No reaction time…

As far as im aware peak hp is 490 hp for both perf and standard range + acc boost on both y and 3.

Interesting additional point to this is that it has been shown in other drag races comparing the different versions of the model 3 (standard range + vs Long Range vs Performance, same exact drivetrain as the Model Y) that the straight line performance benefit of the performance model is effectively null vs the long range after 70mph, and its really close when starting from a roll at 50. The long range model actually pulled away from the performance model over 100mph due to the improved aerodynamics and reduced drivetrain/tire friction. So, at highway speeds, a long range model Y may hold its own against a Lamborghini SUV, and that’s a full $10k less than the performance model. Madness. Of course, as a counterpoint, electric vehicles (including Teslas) lose performance as the batteries discharge or get cold. So, if the model Y in this test had a lower state of charge, it might not be so close. And the handling or track performance between the 2 is not even comparable.

FYI battery TEMP is the single MOST important factor for performance. Many think it’s the charge level but although that does play into it, the temp is the most crucial. We don’t know in this race if it was at or near optimal temp to accelerate the best it could.

Amazingly the Tesla S can reach 163 mph. Which means that on an open highway or freeway it will be left in the dust. Conclusion: at 190 mph the Lambo is the faster vehicle by far.

I want to see average everyday person reviews of living with each one of these two vehicles. Give it to somebody for a month or two and see which one is better at hauling people into their stuff around. Which one is more user-friendly. Which one is the preference of the average person. Then, have them switch and do a post-test interview.

Why would one be better than the other at hauling stuff around other than storage space and suspension setup? That's not something you need more than a day to get a good feel for. One is ICE, the other is EV and it doesn't take long to grasp the differences with that after a few test drives. The Urus suits those who still want a visceral sports car like driving experience in an SUV form factor. The EV is for those who appreciate the speed, pickup and tech at a much lower price point where the value proposition is going to appeal to the average joe. They still appeal to different people but that will change and eventually everyone will just prefer an EV.

@@Pennychaser1 Very nice, we took delivery of a black performance Y last week. I’ve got my wife driving it now to see if she likes it enough to let me sell her 2022 Acura MDX. Gas for that thing is ridiculous. Agreed on cooling the cabin from phone, I love that!

@@daytona3927 there's no official 1/4m times. Unofficial youtube channels don't count because the difference in time range between vids is over 2 whole seconds. Also we can't verify until other vehicles run the same track. Or the angle of the road. When it officially does 9.2, then talk.

@@ertugrulbae46 This car is not out till the end of the year, Tesla has been pretty accurate on their numbers, they say 0-60 in 1.99 1/4 mile in 9.23 I feel pretty sure they will run those numbers. But as you say it's not proven yet, but even if they are off by a little it will still be faster than any production car.

@@daytona3927 Tesla claims. Tesla always tells the truth. Elon Musk advertised that crap over-rated cybertruck that was designed by a 5 year old. On stage during the reveal he claimed the glass was unbreakable, inviting someone from the audience to break it. Someone volunteered and threw the object, smashing the window. Tesla cannot be trusted Also Tesla is electric. Electric cars have batteries which mean they overheart. This means they loose substantial amount of power.

Amazing that when electric vehicles started some called them soy vehicles. Now look at what you have. moderately priced Model Y taking out a $400k auto with carbon fiber to boot. In the first drag it seemed the model Y didn't get a good start. The lambo is nice. I would like to see stopping distance measured. In real life that is probably more important. I believe the f250 stopping distance from 60 mph is 250 feet. Imagine taking almost an entire football field to come to a stop. Anyway, you guys some day race the Tesla Plaid + against the Lambo and that will be the end of the comparisons.

They did say it was a performance model. They didn't show us the screen on how it was configured -- it could have been in 'chill mode' or something. I do not own a performance model, but I think they all include a 'track mode' with options on how to handle traction and such.

@@St.Maurice that comment proves how little you know about cars. The Lamborghini surprisingly is one of the slowest depreciating cars on the market. There are videos explaining this phenomenon. So you are wrong.

@@almac9203 There is no way the Lamborghini depreciates less than the Tesla. Teslas cost less to maintain than a Toyota Camry which is legendary for its reliability and low maintenance cost.

I bought my wife model y performance and whenever I go about my business if car is available i chose to go on tesla that’s how much I enjoy it it’s like taking gokart, feels so light on acceleration, no warm up engine, turn on interior climate from my phone , etc
