Yes, that's a good idea. The ones from CriCut (urgh, I'll never stop regretting buying one of those) are coated in Silicon to make them extremely tacky.
Are you asking for a video of a drag knife or a video about OTK? I'm sorry but the translation is unclear. Here's a video about the stepcraft OTK. It's the only one I've found that is even close to hobby-class. Still quite expensive. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0WfCpRiBctQ.html The idea of using an electromagnet or other devices as a brake during the transit is a good one.
My bad, the original comment was pretty ambiguous too. About dragging a knife and especially about using the sacrifice area for positioning. Also, about magnets. Maybe just a simple piece placed over the bearing case can prevent unwanted rotation during transfer?
Good questions. Of course it would be great to be able to vary both. Before answering, we should probably try to characterize the target materials and then design for that. I'm thinking leather, corrugated cardboard, and foam rubber up to about 5mm would cover most common use-cases for hobbyists.
@@sliptonic well, speed is adjusted by spindle speed if it is spindle-driven, but what speed range would it have to support? Adjustable stroke depth could have large design cost. For example, an adjustable swash plate might be expensive and finicky and limit effective speed. If very short stroke would actually be sufficient at high speed, I have an idea for something that I might be able to make mechanically simple. But I know nothing about actual OTKs so what seems like a good idea is almost certainly hogwash. 😁
@@MichaelKJohnson take a look at the OTK video I linked below. They're not using the spindle for oscillating action (but that would be very cool). They are sing a stepper instead. I don't think the oscillation needs to be super fast. We could probably do some calculation on the angle of the blade and the feed rate to find a minimum speed. Also, someone sent me to this thingiverse thing. There's a linked video showing impressive results. I think this design could be improved a lot. www.thingiverse.com/thing:1436870 I suggest we continue the discussion in the FreeCAD forum thread so we can attach pictures and files. forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=63669
