Yay! That’s a variation on the friendship/rivalry mechanic! I was so disappointed when they went with a regular, boring old approval mechanic in Inquisition after having played DAII. It makes sense since there were so many companions in Inquisition but I really liked the friendship/rivalry in DAII. And I am very familiar with the hand-me-down waterfall LOL
The gear system is genuinely a stroke of genius. I've played so many games where you get gear, and its just this "Oh well its only common" and while the excitement of getting a "rare drop" is cool, there is an unsatisfying fatigue when it comes to just continuously getting gear that doesnt seem to evolve or progress, or alternatively upgrading gear that is immediately invalidated by another piece of gear you werent predicting to get
I pre-ordered it, and the gameplay looks good. I hope the story will be good as well, but the woke agenda is very present, and that makes me worry, though... pushing a political agenda too far in any media just harms it, a lot of exemples out there at the moment. Spreading hate is taking things too far as well, but nonetheless, it worries me. Hope the story will not suffer. The dialogs (i've seen so far) are not bad, but they feel a bit empty imo. Well, may be just the few cut scenes they showed us at the moment
On topic of game length, I have held for most of my life that the longer a game is, the more I like it. I realize now as I've gotten older, and especially with BG3, a game I really enjoy, how that I actually enjoy games like Mass Effect 2 which were pretty much about 30 hours long, but extremely replayable. That's not to say I won't do the ultra long game with lots of stuff, but I do know that even as much as I love BG3, it feels like I am committing to at least a month or more of play, and with so many games out there I like and want to play, it makes it harder for me to get to see the depth of a game because I am less likely to replay it as much as I would another shorter game.
My Inquisition nightmare completionist run took 185 hours. I'm not expecting Veilguard to be that long, but I think it'll better support replays with different set-ups and choices.
People who think that haven’t been paying attention. They saw the not-great announcement trailer and made up their minds not to like it. Those of us who have been following the new reveals closely have seen that the actual game is looking really rich and fun to play.
@@willowparker-ct3pqno I am mad it’s not a crpg and is instead a causal action rpg. I am upset you only have two companions. I am upset you have to be chaotic good in origins. I am upset they said we will never have blood magic again. I am upset about so many things. And I did in fact pay attention
My ideal rpg length is probably around 60-70h, with a lot of meaty content, but also a chance to replay the game a few times. But I'll take even 100h if it means more completionist pt. The game looks really good so far. I was initially apprehensive, esp when it comes to mage combat, but I do like how fast-paced and reactive it feels after watching some footage. I'm psyched about visiting so many new areas of Thedas. Can't wait to get my hands on the game. Thanks a lot for this informative vid. 🙏
My class breakdowns are coming next so I'll have some Mage thoughts out soon. But the combat was the main thing I was worried about prior to playing, I ended up really enjoying it.
People complaining about the game all about choice are giving people choices, that a character customization system is giving people customizations to look like themselves at this point do these people that cry work even like themselves cuz I refuse to believe someone can be this miserable all the time at the sight of someone that isnt a straight white man.
BioWare has always been progressive and suddenly people are complaining that they’re too woke. Like did any of the people saying this actually play origins? What wrong with woke anyways? It’s weird to think that the game should only have options that you like and nothing for what someone else would like. If you don’t want to change your characters pronouns or play as an androgynous Rook then don’t because you literally don’t have to. It’s an option. It’s not going to ruin your game. It’s such a childish thing to complain about.
They had gay romances before the country it was made in had it legal to fucking marry for one and a started trying to write trans characters in 2014 , there's a few and bioware also has had all sorts of stuff in mass effect, they got attacked by Fox News for ME1 lol @@alizaidi2893
For RPGs replayability is big for me, so I would prefer a tighter 30-60 hour campaign with lots of choices and RP variety for maximum replayability. I rarely replay 100+ hour games because of the sheer time sink. Like I’d rather replay Mass Effect 2 twice than revisit Inquisition again for example.
Bro I’ve noticed this too as I’ve gotten older. I was a teen when inquisition came out so i played the shit out of it and loved it. Now, I much prefer playing dragon age 2, even though it has plenty of shortcomings, because of the replay-ability and how Hawke’s personality is molded based on your dialogue options.
@@bonedrone9869 I understand how you feel , I’ll replay a 100hr game readily , only due to I don’t play LOTS of different games , I just game the games I enjoy LOTS, so I don’t worry about time for other games
I seriously hope you are wrong or somehow misunderstood the point of companion levelling, because if they level up based on time spent on missions, we are effectively locked into the same party for an entire playthrough, assuming you play on high enough difficulty level where you actually want to have companions do anything on combat
You can talk to them at the Lighthouse and gain bond. Taking them on missions isn't the only way to increase their bond. Also, doing their personal missions doesn't require them to be in your party, and you still gain bond for that.
@@clauro6153 Correct. Corinne said that all of a companions abilities become available after their recruitment mission, so leveling up their bond essentially just allows you to make their abilities more powerful.
@sasha9796 Neve and Bellara have time slow. Neve has a few ice abilities that detonate combos. Neve and Bellara both have different healing abilities. Bellara has fade bolts, which I think detonates sundered. Lucanis has abominate, debilitate, and adrenaline rush (and some that we don't know yet). Emmrich has a few necromantic abilities that I can't remember off the top of my head. Harding has shred, adrenaline rush, and a few other arrow abilities that are damage heavy and apply weaken. Taash has mostly fire based heavy damage projectile abilities. Davrin's abilities mostly use Assan (except for heroic strike), and some do fire damage because he's a Warden.
this game comes out the last day of my full month of mandatory over time (72 hours a week). it is going to be so NICE to have a 4 day weekend again, the brand new dragon age game, and a shit ton of money. best timing
How many times are these corpos gonna regurgitate that 'we want to be intentional' catchphrase? Do none of these developers speak their own mind anymore? Is it all a script?
I'm really confused now: the content creators that played the game played for around 6 ~7 hours right? And by the end you said that you guys played up to chapter five that was the final chapter of the 1st of the 3 acts. So if the first act is the longest as developers said, doesn't that makes the game kinda small?
I had the same question and one of the other reviewers clarified it. They were given access to in total 6-7 hours of content to test out, but not the entirety of act 1. Within that limited playable content, the ending of act 1 was included.
They basically got to play small segments from 5 different save files, from chapter 1 to chapter 5. They're not allowed to talk about or show anything from chapters 3 or 4, and there's a lot of stuff they missed. They didn't do the recruitment missions for Davrin, Emmrich, or Taash for example and they didn't meet half the factions.
Thanks for the video. Great info. That audio though...yikes! We're almost done with the month and the last grind of October to get our hands on this game. First week of November is going to be a busy one.
The only legit reason to have concerns about Corinne is that she was a big fan of Inquisition. Plenty of Origins fans didn’t like Inquisition, so hearing that she’s from the other side of the fandom is cause for SOME despair (though not to the monstrous extent that we’ve been hearing).
Not ALL the traits (all the skills though) as it would have taken too much time out of my play session to go through every trait on all the classes. They do make a difference in adding new flavour to abilities or your basic attacks though.
100 hours seems good. At this point I have like 300 in BG3 so I’m ok with that. I find the narrative RPG’s deserve a much longer run time than other games in general.
Same. With Halloween launch I wanted to make a goth mage, ideally belonging to the Mourn Watch faction cause the backstory is great but most armours are so colourful. So it's either recolouring or transmoging everything to that feathery Crows armour.
Ghil Drathalen (sp?) Has a video with John Epler where they touch on this. It's kind of like color ways in Gotham knights from my understanding. Of course, I haven't played it, so take my information with like a quarter of a grain of salt.
@@CrimsonMxxn Each armor piece has many color variations, but you have to actually find those variations, you can’t change the color of an armor piece with a dye or similar item. However, there’s full transmog, so you can apply the appearance of any armor piece you’ve unlocked to any other armor piece of the same type.
I'd love to see your take on each romances (or your favorites) for Veilguard. TBH, my favorite things about the DA series is depending on who you romance, the npc will move or act different when you date them. I love how Cole would comment on who you'd date in inquisition. Or Grandma Wynne teasing Alistair for being in love with the leader of the wardens. Small details that make the bigger story feel all the more real.
It's a shame it was wasn't free on my Xbox Ultimate game pass cause I would have loved to give it a try on my PC. It looks cool as hell though & colorful. Do u have to have the side kicks tag along?? not really into micro management of secondary characters. It's a shame it wasn't Co-Op. Other than that when it gets discounted I'll have to give it a go.
Looking forward to the game. Sad that Dragon Age Keep is gone. One of my greatest moments in gaming was transferring my Mass Effect decisions across the entire series.
@@conradkorbol 1) Most Dragon Age Origins and 2 fans are also Inquisition fans 2) Dragon Age Inquisition literally sold quadruple of what Origins sold.
Dragon Age Keep is gone, but they do have a system where you can choose decisions you made in the previous games. It makes more sense to do it that way because Keep would require connecting to EA servers and they want this to be a solely offline game.
@@jossebrodeur6033 yeah do most of the fans are not fans from those two series. 2 the reason it sold well is cuz of the previous fans. The new fans would be 4 times as many. They don’t care about old fans anymore and I think that sucks
You know, you're actually driving customers away from the game with this shit. A WHOLE LOT of us actually have legitimate concerns with reconning, combat changes, lack of spell slots, lack of party members, being forced to interact with companions we don't like, the art style, the gaslighting and the frankly bizarre aesthetic choices in the character creator. I'm all for diversity, bring it on. What I hate is being abused by sycophants while trying to find out answers to my perfectly reasonable questions about seemingly irrational changes to the gameplay.
@@noctoi I only attack people with this “shit” who are attacking this game for its progressive idea. We can criticize its gameplay and even its story and all that but to discard it just for the sake of its inclusion of minorities that is connected with the maga hate culture, that’s not really gaslighting but a legitimate critique of people’s cavemen bigotry.
@@noctoi Embrace being an isthamophobe like the rest of us, friend. We've been going strong and growing since Mass Effect 3. It's a pretty great group to be in.
5:35 The Mass Effect 3 solo campaign also upgrades weapons and weapon mods every time you find or purchase the same item - I think to level X (ten) or higher after multiple playthroughs. The randomized loot boxes in ME3 multi-player are similar, but more frustrating, because you can play for 12 literal years and still not get the gear or character you want, while stockpiling enough shotgun and sniper rile mods to run an army of Reaper troops. Still, ME3 Multiplayer (2012) remains my favorite multi-player of all time. Edit: DA2 had companion-specific armor upgrades at specific vendors, too, and DAI had some companion-specific armor as well, not just class-specific.
@@GazingTrandoshan It’s honestly so pathetic that it’s looping back around to being hilarious. If this game wins game of the year the seething and coping from them is going to be top tier dramady lmao
I'm interested to play the game. Combat looks great and i want to see how Solas story ends. But i'm still not sold on the new companions. They all look so lame and abit unattractive compared to companions in older Dragon Age games. Makes me worried how they would model Cassandra if she returned in this game.
@@Mythos131 Maybe scarred inquisiton Cassandra but defintely not DA 2 version. They both pale compared to Morrigan, who has sadly been neutered in Veilguard.
Man, I really HATE the combat hud elements, the numbers, the trajectory lines, the area of effect highlights, health bars etc. I want to turn all of that crap off! I am super relieved we can turn all that clutter off. I will probably turn off the minimap and objective prompts as well. Another thing I really hope can be turned off are the lootable and interactable environment objects being highlighted in shiny gold - it is horrible! Also, the gold confetti when looting chests and other objects - what the actual fuck, BioWare! What is it with all these flashy, out of place effects??? Seems like this game is going to require extensive modding to remove all the crappy effects.
I'm with you with all the effects and flashing lights. My eyes will strain so much from these. Still I'm excited to play this game. That's my only nitpick with the game
@@GazingTrandoshan Saying "dismissed" when the comment is threatening to you that you cannot ignore it, that is actually "empty". Your actions don't match your words.
Seems likely the same gear is going to be in the same places each time. And there's surely not much of it given it has to be doled out exclusively to the appropriate companion. In a good RPG you don't cascade your items down through your companions when main character gets a new item, because it generally doesn't apply to the companion build. That's the point - they're different companions with different abilities, so cascading doesn't always work. And here it's all gone anyway. Yes, it's streamlining but excessively so, by the looks. Inventory management can be a drag but it is part of the deal. Or used to be, at least. Clearly nobody is going to be spending an hour on the inventory screen here - for some that's a boon, no doubt. For others though it's going to reduce involvement and sense of personalisation. Over-streamlining kills actual gameplay. I mean, why bother with any of it, ultimately - just press button and have game play itself? They also call items "uncommon" (and legendary etc). But there aren't going to be common items, really, are there - else what did the streamlining achieve? Strikes me there isn't going to be much variety, not much scope for tinkering, not much personalisation etc - except superficially. Also, they said if you upgrade the shops (!) it upgrades all items found in the chests! Err....that's weird. And immersion breaking. Somehow the shop level determines the item level that you find in hidden chests. That's very odd and, again, immersion breaking. You're supposed to be trying to plant folks in the story yet these things are telling you it's all a construct. Hmmm. Colour me (very) sceptical. Not to mention that there seems almost no difference in playstyle available (ranged looks just like melee), there's no element of surprise in combat (no ambushes, etc) and the AI and level design so lacking every encounter plays out the same - a big blob of enemies being pounded with overly-colourful and busy light effects. Meh. Looks real bad to me. And nothing to do with DEI or Woke making it bad. It's just bad.
I'm a bit baffled that they were once again saying "we heard loud and clear what the fans were saying" about gear... LIke... I don't know ANYONE who was complaining about gear choices. EVERY person I know who played the series wanted more skins in Origins but loved the range of stats and the swapability. We universally HATED the "bespoke" companion gear of DA:2 which is *why they took it out of DA:I*. The lack of range of gear and inability to share gear in DA:2 was a HUGE sore point for pretty much everyone who reviewed it. The ability to swap, change, dye and craft gear how WE wanted it was something that pretty much everyone praised in Inquisition. I'm getting really frustrated with the gaslighting and retconning to justify their bizarre choices. They seriously need to stop telling people that "they heard what we said" when we NEVER SAID THAT!! I just wish someone would talk about the effing button combos. I freaking DESPISE button combos and action combat. I HATE it so much. I really want to know if the button combos are necessary because that's an instant nope for me. I'd rather eat glass. But the hair looks good, and I admit the background scenery looks nice I guess, I'm just not sure it's enough to make me want to pay a premium for it. Maybe after some full clear reviews by creators who haven't been inducted into the community panel. I just don't trust the game, the devs or anyone on the panel. 🤷 😔 Have to say too, your Qunari actually looks really good. Well done. Nobody else has managed that feat!!
But have they changed the char creator so you can create actually attractive female Rooks with more distinct womanly features? And not the androgynous mess that we've seen thus far?
Makes sense since the game was in full force development during that time and GoW win GOTY, I wouldn't call it stolen, since that's normal in game development
I think the combat looks fun but i don't like the art style it deviates too much from the spirit of the earlier games. It would have been a great graphical style for a Third Person action game set in the League of Legends universe. But not for Dragon Age.
I wish they’d tweak the sliders for certain assets better. I should have a bust and rear that matches my weight. So far it does not. And I feel that’s deliberate. I am a moderate gamer, I like to play pretty people with better body proportions than me. I don’t mind some woke elements as long as it doesn’t mess up the story. But again, it feels like they are trying to sabotage the male gaze at the expense of their main player base. Which sorry, are men. That’s just the way it is. If they cater to one group then they need to cater to everybody.
It's an outright denial of the unassailable appeal of the female form, or the appeal of traditional masculine archetypes. Everyone is just kinda androgenous and bisexual looking.
Using the term 'woke' unironically is pretty ignorant and meaningless. The Dragon Age series has always addressed political topics as great art has through history. It has always supported all sorts of people playing the game, so if all that is 'woke', then I'm all for it.

From what I've been able to gather from the HOURS of gameplay reviews over the last couple days, it looks like only the Inquisitor is recreatable and only Inquisition is available to set the world state. It kind of makes sense since they retconned SO MUCH from Origins, DA:A and DA:2. I mean, blood magic, Templars, mage abilities, the Crows, Tevinter, Connor, Weisshaupt and the Warden Base and hierarchy, Morrigan, how Lyrium works, Spirit Healing, Blood Magic, spirit and demon possession, the Blight and how it affects people and how deadly it is, how demons are born, how spirits interact with the world, and how health pots/poultices work, runes, crafting and imbuing gear with magic, Dwarven physiology and magic, and how combat works are ALL totally retconned. I'm not sure how many of the events and choices from world stated before Inquisition would even be compatible now :(
