I've been up and down the area you pointed out and I don't know how you did it but all the Quillbacks I kill drop nothing but leather. The only one that dropped the quills was the actual alpha and I still need one more.
I ran in circles around the uh... dragon hunter's camp mentioned here, and it finally worked. Dropped from REGULAR monsters, didn't need to be ALPHAS. Took about 20 kills, hour or two. What a pain!

got the 1st one from the alpha near Nazaires camp. The other 2 came from a pair of regular ones that respawn somewhere around (south of) Craggy Ridge Camp.
Been really busy, The normal Quillbacks drop the alpha spine, I looked for a long time for only alphas, and it seems once you kill the ones at the locations they give you they don't respawn.
You can do all these things and still not get them. Just so any new players dont waste too much time. By means go for it. I have gone back multiple times. I am now going to finish more quest and then i will try again but I'm not getting my hopes up. I recommend saving before going here in a seperate save. Otherwise you might be S.O.L

It's just sucks that I've looked everywhere and spent hours before I watched your video, and then got the item right away. :3
Thanks for the video. I was able to farm them in this location and get the 3 spines to get my speciation going. Took a couple of hours, but I got it done.
ugh ive killed a million of those and not one has droppped anythhing other than leather when they do actually spawn. i only have seen one alpha and that was the first time i visited the wastes. -.- guess this one isnt getting completed.
i did not get it off any regular ones but in the video it says they do. i figured out my problem though, i hadnt been to the old prison and as i was walking toward it i ran into a bunch and two of them dropped it.

Pretty sure you don't 'farm' quillbacks, there's an actual mob called the alpha quillback with two normal quillbacks that drops alpha quillback spines. I've seen one and gotten a spine from the Nazaire's Pass, couldn't find the one at canyons yet, and haven't been to prison road yet
Fayde Gaming Please don't believe this person. An archer/artificer can solo the strongest High Dragon using it's 3rd tier focus ability and Leaping Shot within ten seconds. (Opportunity Knocks along with high Crit Chance & Crit Dmg Bonus required)
