Funny because all DAs are like that, especially in the fandom itself. Like, I really dislike DAI but some people love it. The games are so different from each other that is kinda the consequence of it haha
The fact that they pre-selected the reviewers for early review codes based on their first impressions videos is the reason. If they didn't, the reviews probably would sway much more in one direction. Also now they made another case to incentivise reviewers to give good reviews for their games. Otherwise you might not get a review code. In such instances I trust the negative reviews more. Just because they are curated to be the minority.
I love how the goalposts keep getting moved. First it was “I don’t trust previews, I’ll wait til reviews come out.” Now that someone played the game and enjoyed it, it’s “I don’t trust THESE reviews, I’ll wait for ones after the game’s full release.”
I think now that it's coming out that EA is curating reviews and holding back review copies from some channels makes it worth taking a little time to see more reviews after release.
@@KingTairun but let the game would’ve gotten almost all bad scores it would’ve been “see told ya” “go woke go broke!!” “Can’t see why anyone would play this trash! 🗑️ “ and now that it’s not it’s wait till next week for real scores. N da game comes out THIS Thursday 😂😂😂😂 y’all are insane, the game got good scores high even, and y’all hate it eat a frank
I mean she kept some curves but lost others.... I wonder if Varric over estimated the size of them when retelling the story to Cassandra in DA2 even though she told him to be honest :P
Dantic youa re the man, GONNA SAY ONE THING THE FACT YOU USED THE “Lilianna's Song" in your video alone was amazing. been watching your videos since andromeda and using those guides!!!! KEEP UP the WORK!!!
I kind of wish the weapon and armor mod mechanic from DAI would have become a mechanic in this game. I thought that being able to craft items you can attach to weapons and armor that change how they look and serve as stat boosters was really cool!
He's made very few videos and had been pretty bland on his opinions about it, do you know what critical means? One thumbnail even says pleasant surprise
I think it's a game people who give a try, play it for themselves and then decide with an unbiased opinion if they enjoy it or not. So many people getting caught up on the visuals or the politics around the game and then calling it trash and not once having actually tried it. Sad because this game is probably what makes or breaks Bioware going forward with big titles and them having more say in how they turn out.
BioWare ISN’T the same as it was, so it simply isn’t possible for them to make the games they used to. Even if not to the extent some have been saying; there are SOME people left.
I know people will argue with me but when I played witcher 3 I loved it and I saw my friend playing fable 3. I heard people hated that game back then. But my friend suggested me to play it and guess what I liked it more than witcher 3. I think this game is giving me same vibe which I had while I was playing fable 3.
Thanks fior the review Dan! Your opion on the game carries a lot of weight to me, especially since you played it to 100%. I'm super excited to play it myself!
Didn't know I was going to skip this game or not. I had been very excited, but some the reviews gave me pause. It is definitely not what I wanted, but I am now pretty sure I will give it a play at some point. Thx for all the work D!
What continues to baffle me is how many people either don't understand what reviews are for, or just want to be contrarian for the sake of being contrary. We are all grown ups with (presumably) working brains. When I watch a review, I focus on how the game looks, what the person is saying about the mechanics, progression, etc. Not how much they are praising it or not. Because I know what kind of games I like. And I know what I don't like. I can make a fairly decent opinion for myself on my own. We've all had games we don't like that got praised. We all have loved games that someone else didn't. We've all seen games where some people loved it and others hated it. Reviews aren't meant to be a consensus. They're meant to be a source of information. If you think someone's review is biased, then oh well. Don't listen or still use the review to pick out what you want from it. But thinking one review is "bought," which means the other reviews won't be...is the exact same as thinking these reviews are accurate, and the release ones are just bitter and angry because they didn't get picked for a review key.
When a review video is 45 minutes long and filled front to back with concrete examples of every criticism being leveled at it, you don't really get to handwave that as "opinion." And when high profile publications then give this blatantly very deeply flawed game the highest score a 1 to 10 scale allows, well, that's when any reasonable person ought to question the motives of those reviewers. Tellingly, many of them have clear motivations for ignoring the game's tremendous flaws so they could end up literally placing it above the likes of Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate 3. In this case, this really does not boil down to personal opinion, and it's little wonder that people aren't willing to allow that narrative to fly this time.
@Asterra2 see, you proved my point. Your concept of "flaws" is your opinion. Not everyone will agree on what you consider, "deeply flawed," will they? And similarly, a reviewer providing "concrete examples" is still just their opinion. There's nothing objective about this. It's all subjective to the person. That's what the point of reviews are. You know what you like, you know who you tend to agree with, and who you tend to disagree with, and you watch them all to form your own opinion. I've watched every bad review for this game as I have good review.
bombarding dislikes on reviewers channels because they simply don't affirm your feelings is probably the most manchild shit ive seen from the gaming community.
Yeah I dunno wtf is even going on any more. It's not even about criticism, 99% of them are just mad there's scar options they don't like and the *choice* of pronouns. It feels like insanity. Options? In MY roleplaying game?? I think not.
I appreciate your take, but the truth is I was going to buy it regardless. I saw some aspects of the game that interested me, and now I want to see for myself if it’s good or not! Thanks for the content though. 👍🏽
Heaven forbid people enjoy a game. Lots of positive reviews to be found. From quite a few trustworthy sites and RU-vidrs (save for IGN). I’ve been on board since day 1. And I still see no reason to not be. Veilguard and Thedas will be digital home for the next couple months!
@@RuinHDthe same skillup who recommended suicide squad? The dude has recommended games that I didn't like and didn't recommended games that I ended up enjoying. Maybe try forming your own opinions. Skillup isn't your daddy
On every review people play the dialogue clips. How the fuck does this dialogue sound anywhere near the definition of good? What is wrong with all of you thinking this is good writing?
Man, i wanna love what i see but i keep feeling like "well looks nice enough but on discount." I'll definitely wait for a sale on this one. Thankfully, we have lots of games to play until i make up my mind.
I'm so happy you had a chance to play the game. I was hoping to hear a review from you. I knew you'd be fair with your review, though I am thrilled to hear how much you loved it. Such a wholesome and well-balanced review. Thank you. Also, it was nice to see yoir face as you spoke about it. 😊 A genuine guy.
I mean, we're going to Rivain so yeah. Too bad she won't have any cool call back dialogue though since we can't import any choices from DA2 nor how losing Hawke in Inquisition (if your Hawke had romanced her and you left him/her behind in the fade) has affected her life.
Good review mate.. will be playing tomorrow for sure. Also dont worry about the angry basement dwellers trashing the game without having played it.. they'll find something else to be mad about in a couple days Gained a sub
Amazing video as always, Dantics! This game is certainly polarizing, with some praising it primarily for its DEI and others strongly disliking it for the same reasons. It’s refreshing to see someone approach it with a more informed, balanced perspective, focusing on the gameplay, story depth, and overall design instead of getting caught up in the debate. Thanks for bringing such a fair and thoughtful take to the conversation!
Hey mate! Really appreciate your comment here. The game will be polarizing, but over all I enjoyed it. There are parts I didn't, but I don't think I've played a game that was my idea of perfect. There will be tons of other channels covering the debate
Dantics : hates Neve's hat Dantic's Dwarf : an unholy abomination. lmaoo I was looking forward to yours and Kala's reviews the most. Thanks for your honesty.... Sad that my butt cant be represented in the game smh. 2024 my ass
This is the second review ive seen compare the endgame to ME2 final mission and im so hyped!! Also Isabela confirmed! Letsgo! Lol im modeling my character after her so it should be interesting
@@Dantics i appreciate it. I’m looking forward to discovering what you have without any expectations. I’m just glad to hear that someone who has already spent so much time on it has good things to say. Take care :)
Glad to hear that it was a bug-free experience! I'm looking forward to giving it a try myself, even if the departure from a partybased RPG playstyle is not my preference.
4:50 - It's Frostbite, just as Inquisition, Anthem, Andromeda. So yeah, no, not a technical limitation that one. I mean look at the variety of different enemies and NPC, how diverse they are in terms of size, shape etc. My money is on a purely ideaological/political decision.
I had to pause at several points to laugh at your Dwarf rook. Appreciate the comprehensive and nuanced review, glad you got to review it! Look forward to playing for myself this weekend.
It won't be the same experience as someone who is continuing from DA:I - but I'm sure there are things to enjoy there. Be sure to check out the story recaps tho
@@davidsimmons4731 Lots of reviewers turned the difficulty to the lowest, simply because added difficulty just turns the enemies into damage sponges. Probably worth giving this one a miss; unless you want 50 hours of the same button mashing.
As someone who kept playing as a pacifist mage being the support help out the team and try and be the overall good guy that is compleetly gone right? No more choices how you play like a tank support but just damage dealer right? And no more evil asshole playthrough which generally was my rogue... Just different classes that only are different ways of dealing damage? So overall choice is way more limited then the other games?
I think gaming is the only industry where the consumer is expected to be understanding. @dantics likes the game, but based on his reviews, the game has a lot of issues that may or may not be important based on the type of player you are or the expectation you have for the game. 2/3 game reviewer that i like to watch doesn't like the game. This is going to be a sale buy for me.
Here I am, binge watch all the reviews with tomorrow work's awaits, but previously told you to take some rest. lol Love your review and look forward to playing it!
Thank you, thank you so much. I just read IGN very positive review, and i was certain the game was completely garbage. It’s so good have an HONEST positive review.
I find it interesting how much the positive and negative reviews agree on. The reviews overall are a confusing mess, but there are common points brought up in nearly all of them. Doesn't help reduce the confusion, but greatly helps identifying the obvious outliers.
Good to hear the game is technically polished on PC. The character design is growing on me. I know it's a departure from previous titles, but I think it works for this.
You mention the romances feel asexual at times, but I was wondering if you could actually play any of the romances that way? Like you mentioned Bellara. Are you able to romance her without sleeping with her like Josephine or Dorian if you choose in Inquisition?
I think it just kind of depends on the personality of the character. I’ve heard some are more spicy while others are more subdued. It seems like he may have only romanced Bellara, who kinda gives off awkward nerdy girl who is more interested in artifacts than romance vibes, but it’s hard to tell. I guess we’ll see to what extent their romances can go after release.
People keep pointing to Baldur's Gate 3 for romance in RPGs when I found it all so juvenile and cliched. Cyberpunk 2077, especially romancing Judy and her quest Pyramid Song, is still the gold standard for romance in rpgs.
Comparing any dialogue and interactions to Cyberpunk is unfair. They did phenomenal in capturing body language, nuance in how each person understands the other in a convo.
You’re Rook! LOL Wow. I love that you are showing us the possibilities available to us in this character creator. I’m looking forward to making something much less interesting looking on Thursday.
This was really reassuring to hear after watching SkillUp's review. He totally lambasted the game, so to hear you have a different more positive take, while also still being critical of some things was a relief. Looks like I don't need to cancel my preorder!
I'm in the same boat. I decided to pre-order because they made it a point to make this game work smoothly on the Steam Deck, and I'd been missing Dragon Age storytelling but trying DAI again, did not really miss the jank. I could only take about half of Skillup's review before feeling like I made a mistake and needed to cancel my preorder to funnel into something like Metaphor instead, but this review made me want to see it through. If it turns out to be bad... that's an expensive lesson I'm not going to unlearn soon.
talking about the sliders at around 5 min mark it is def a political reason. what happened to isabella is criminal and that was a design choice, that is not how technical constraints work in gaming. they can but they did not allow it.
I can't agree with your positives, and even if I could I don't feel they make up for the seemingly large fumbles this games makes. I do find it strange what people will brush under the rug and consider acceptable then turn around to a different game/series and go the opposite. I can't here. To each their own.
Thanks for your review, I hope that it is honest, because I want this game to be a success, I want it to have expansions and to grow, and to support a new mass effect game and to hopefully keep bioware alive.
Oh yeah, I'm certain the body morphs are not politically motivated, like, at all. It's all about the technical difficulties inherent to adding two additional sliders. Poor Isabella.
Look I preordered I was gonna play this even if it horrible reviews from everyone I follow. Hearing it's enjoyable and combat works allays basically all my concerns major ones anyway. I was already set on doing Mage first and don't mind earning my skills so to speak so I'll still try it first. The itemization and sheer amount of options sounds like a blast to my theorycraft brain to play with. Appreciate all your work man, just hoping the storytelling and connective tissue are at least as good as before. Either way look forward to playing it alot more after your review. Hearing no cliffhangers worries me this is may be the last Dragon Age if they're closing everything off though. Hopefully not the case.
I remember a Bioware interview that gave the impression that they made their Trilogies and now the games will be more branching but self contained. Seems what I keep seeing in reviews. Thanks for your honest opinions.
I'm not surprised. I've heard that the devs were pretty much done with the game nearly a year ago and have been polishing it since. They gave themselves a lot of time to fix bugs. However I still think there will be bugs people encounter on release but none will be gamebreaking.
When the guy said no proper "curve slider" due to technical and not political reasons, I was fairly sure the review was bs. To me ? Makes no difference, but the explanation was as corpo as it gets.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game where this many people seem to have their minds made up before playing. Every gameplay preview I’ve seen seems to suggest that this game is very inspired by Mass Effect 2, which is one of Bioware’s most beloved titles. I personally prefer Mass Effect 1, Dragon Age Origins and KOTOR to ME 2 and beyond, but coming off the past few Bioware games, a Mass Effect 2 style game would really be a return to form for the company. I get that we all hate EA, and they’ve sabotaged their own product once again with their review code distribution, but I don’t think it’s legitimate to lambast any reviewer for being positive about the game, since there seems to be plenty to feel positive about from a fair minded outside perspective. I mean, this guy played through the game multiple times already, you don’t do that if you don’t legitimately enjoy the game. It’s okay to be positive lol, even if EA is just the absolute worst.
No! We have to parrot the always negative grifters we follow on the internet. We can't have our own thoughts. How will we get validation through likes from other sheep? We have to repeat that this game is terrible without playing it or the previous ones, but still lie and say we are fans of the series.
Yeah, people praying on studios to fall apart is weird. So many games to play yet people spend all day trashing half of the new releases before they come out. Here I am playing the games I want to play and forgetting the ones I don't. No need to protest on RU-vid about it x_x
