Just noticed Solas actually *does not* have the knife in his hands anymore as the Evanuris are rising behind him. There's a cut after he blows the statue away. What if he used the knife to kill Varric in his anger afterward, with it still being lodged in his body? Then it's this -- him forsaking that friendship once and for all -- that causes his downfall, with him no longer having the knife and consequently being overpowered and imprisoned by the Evanuris. This would explain why Rook is seen with the knife in the promotional art; Varric's body fell down the stairs, and Rook takes the knife.
! I hadn't noticed that omg... I went back and watched it, and I think we can see Varric lying on the ground very very vaguely next to Bianca as Solas turns back around to look at the gods. *edit: So, yes, that's a body - HOWEVER, with some deliberation with some people - we're all somewhat agreeing that the context is Varric was likely hit by the evanuris in the rift - who were possibly aiming at Solas, but Varric was in that direction.
As someone who romanced Solas and wants to save him, I really hope he doesn't kill Varric. That might make things a little difficult 😅 *just rewatched it myself, it could also happen as solas blasts the statues away, it's in his hand at that point 🤞
IF Varric dies here I am certain it's either by accident or because of the Evanuris/creatures inside the rift. Not enough time really passes between the ritual being interrupted and the end for there to be any kind of instant emotional reaction for Solas. IF Solas kills Varric at this point, I think it'd be much more likely an accident, but even more then that I think just everything that happens (the falling debris, the evanuris inside the rift, etc) would be more likely to kill or injure him then Solas himself in that moment, but if it is solas, I totally read it as an accident that comes from defending himself. If this is the same knife as we see in the promotional art though. My money currently is just on, that the knife gets blown away to where we are and we pick it up and keep it for whatever plot reasons ensue.
I think the footage was edited to remove the moment when Varric gets stabbed and/or thrown down the stairs because it would have been a major spoiler. But the way the scene is written, with such gravitas... I think he's definitely going to die. Killing off a beloved character early on would show players just how dire things are (kinda like Avengers: Endgame) and give them an incentive to care about the rest of the plot. Now whether or not Solas is directly responsible for that death remains to be seen, but as was pointed out in the video, we see him crying, which could mean what happened wasn't intentional.
Thanks for those subtitles on the ambient conversation between Varric and Solas. I think you've heard it correctly. Your interpretation of Solas reminded me why he's my favorite character in the series. And I hadn't clocked the link between the destroyed statues and the figures who stepped out of the tear--great point!
That was very nice. I'd caught part of the conversation with Solas, but hadn't gotten the first couple of lines. Thank you. Maybe they'll thank Solas for freeing them?
Hi Lady Sulevin, if possible could you do a video on a reading order for the various dragon Age books? Theres so many and it's hard to know where to start and in what order.
i do have a video on the 5 novels: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--fn7ASdPPDs.html And I've got Tevinter Nights on the backburner script-wise, but I haven't started anything yet for the comics if you include them. But so far the books go (chronological oldest to newest in lore): The Stolen Throne The Calling Asunder & The Masked Empire (take place at the same time) Last Flight Tevinter Nights (anthology) hope that helps!
I live how some say it doesn't make sense that Solas' would fix the scaffolding and his plans would be destroyed because of it. And I'm like, when had his plans ever worked out??? Bro is the worst at making plans.
I think Varric will be more a storyteller this time round rather than an actual companion, but will be there at the end to recount the 'adventure/game'. I hope we get to slaughter Solas make his death be horrific and vengeful. Never liked him was always I'm better than you so up yours die horribly. Still that being said I am just grateful that this game has arrived and just hope it performs and sells well enough to keep Bioware alive and we get to play with Liara again.
The people die, that's what they do quote is by Moriarty from Sherlock BBC. It was really bothering me, I was sure I had heard it before. Anyway, I think the story of this game has changed from what it was going to be. If you've played Horizon Forbidden West, you'll know the story there was written so that the next game can be live service (or at least a spin off). That's what I think is happening here. EA wants a cash cow, and they'll kill the goose to get it. As for Solas... His actions led to many innocent deaths in the small gameplay section we saw. Him refusing Varrics olive branch was the last straw. Im not sure why Rook, a new player with no emotional connection to him, will not just take him down with prejudice.
So after literally 10 years and a whole game that set up Solas as the main villain, the whole thing is going to be concluded in the intro. Then we spend the rest of the game dealing with the Evanuris. Perfect, just a chefs kiss of awful.
Yeahhh fair play, but i think it was purposeful the position of the rain falling down his face. Perhaps Solas doesn't cry, but they wanted to symbolise that?
You using the Inquisition romance theme in the background sake me smile and feel all warm on the inside. I love that theme so much. Reminds me of Dorian.
It is possible that Solas is another pawn of a Mythal/Flemeth greater scheme. She sent something through the eluvian. ( Inquisition ending ) " Alas, so long as the music plays, we dance " - Mythal/Flemeth -
Solas dying 1h into the game doesn't make much sense considering the name of the game was Dreadwolf, but the scary thought is thinking they changed the name to The Veilguard because they decided to kill him at the beggining of the story and that would mean they probably changed the story at the last moment (?) A truce with Solas to face the ''greater enemy'' with both sides (Solas and ''Us'') knowing we'll end up killing each other at the end regarless could be pretty interesting. That conversation you transcripted between Solas and Varric was ''kind of'' important, I thought the Varric conversation with Solas was just a lame way to forward the plot but the whole scene is so much better with that conversation.
@@davids2cents594 no problem, I've seen a lot of people that had no idea they changed the name and thought The Veilguard was a mobile phone spin off of dragon age after the new trailer 🤣
That was a really good analysis of the interaction between Solas and Varric. And your theories on the elven gods made me realize that I need to brush up on my Dragon Age lore before I play this; I knew the names but couldn’t remember who was who. And what a wonderful reason to play the games again! Excellent video! Hope you enjoy your time away!
This was such a refreshing video to watch given all the negative commentary going on right now about this game and BioWare. It was so nice to see someone dissect the trailer and talk about the story. I had no idea those were the elven gods popping out behind Solas. I thought they were just demons. Love this video. Great job.
As Solas said: the first of the people are not easily killed. Solas is literally himself, flemeth (mythal), and old gold #5. Im unsure if he can take on 2 evanuris....but he's going to survive here (due to spoilers in the past years) and those two will wreck havoc in the meantime. The forgotten ones are also talking about their returns. The titans are waking again. The Qunari have started a small invasion of the imperium which was said to potentially drag all nations into a world war.....and two blights are near. Drakon's prophecy and the understanding of what would happen if all old gods are dead. The architect, the wardens of orlais/warden civil war, the inquisition status....there is a lot to unfold. Ultimately, Sandal's prophecy will come true...all the magic will come back. The dreadwolf will succeed but what will that truly mean? the black city will be among everyone. I honestly hope its just the abyss and not arlathan....its be such an obvious crappy secret if that was the case.
While I agree that Solas tends to evade, I'm also pretty sure there is more going on. Something is motivating him beyond wanting the old world back. This is not to suggest there is a good justification for him to create more chaos, but still...
Yeah, I've got my suspicions that theres something Solas isn't telling us (and we might find out in the moments after the gpr cuts off), and that just makes so much sense for his character. I'm reminded by what Inky can ask in trespasser (paraphrasing because i dont remember existt wording) Inky: why does this world need to die for that one to exist Solas: An excellent question, but not one I'll answer
I don't care about the gameplay myself (since I''m more of a get-gud player with any game I like) But I am very interested in the story. Also- isn't it strange that he only using two Elven gods to power the ritual? Where are the other 5? My guess is that they're dead. This isn't a new theory by any standard- but if there were 7 evanuris sealed away and only two are left to fuel this ritual- that means 5 are gone. 5 dead evanuris, 5 blights. If the Evanuris really are the Old Gods by another name (Which isn't a stretch if you think about it- for in Trespasser its hinted at that the form of the divine is that of a dragon- and we see Flemeth turn into one more than once.) That means that the easiest way to kill the two freed ones are to blight them and then kill them- essentially having a double blight. And Ghillina'an is associated with darkspawn in Horror of Hormak- which should be more of an Archdemon thing if they weren't connected. All in all- I think there are going to be some grey warden sacrifices happening. Most importantly though- do you think Varric's gonna die?
So… Rook has this tenacity about him that screams: “I am coming for you.” He has beef with Solas one way or another. He intends to face Solas off. The question becomes why? What did Solas do to make our player character so angry. Or perhaps the Inquisitor or Varric spins their story about how dangerous Solas is and needs to be stopped.
I love the idea that we'll get to work with Solas eventually, but I find it more interesting to have him flee and we pursue him. I really enjoyed the mystery and suspense of the Missing comics. I wanna be able to get a chance to chase after Solas in-game and unlock clues. I'm sure after 10 years since Inquisition someone like Solas has backup plans just in case things go wrong.
Oof it's what, about 15-20 years after origins right? What if we get to see an adult Kieran? If your Warden did the ritual (or had Alistair do it), then he no longer has the Old God Soul. But he would still be different just because of his long bond with it
I thought the male Evanuris was Elgar'nan but the relationship with Dirthaman and Andruil makes sense. The destruction of Bianca broke my heart. Varric's personification of "her" throughout DA2 and Inquisition proved all the points of what she meant for him...his Bianca poppet...I also remember some promo artwork with Isabella swimming underwater, knife clenched in her teeth, ready to do do battle with a tentacled creature...was this Andruil?
If I remember correctly Solas played the gods off each other and they didn't know he was their jailer, he could say Oh thank heavens you are alright *sorta. I hope he joins us as he knows more about the whole situation and can offer solid ideas. and ya my Inky was hoping to see him in her dreams after he walked off through the eluvian with her hand. He did save her. I hope you have fruitful journeys through the void.
I clicked on your video because you share the name Sulevin with my Lord Inquisitor. :D I'm a little curious as to how Solas and Varric's reactions in the beginning will change, if at all, if you have an Inquisitor who didn't get along with Solas, and/or an Inquisitor who is out for blood instead of attempting to redeem him. Solas was pretty ruthless with Felassan before, who he killed just because Felassan "thought they were people" and it went against his plans.
I totally want to see the veil torn down. I want to see the world as it originally was and was meant to be. I'm with Solas, the disease needs to be removed, aka the veil. If your cat has worms, do you leave your cat infected so that the worms can be happy? No unless you're a sick person that enjoys watching pets suffer.
I think trespasser implied they gods never knew who fen harel actually was they just knew he was this rebel leader. I also think he may be one of the existing deities perhaps dirthamen because of the knowledge component to his legend skyhold was his and I still think it was dirthamen’s city in the mountains.
I want one of the Evanuris to possess the Inquisitor to keep Solas at bay at seeing his either friend/lover being possessed by a monster that he freed. Or someone that hates him and is now empowered enough to stand against him.
Thanks for this video, it really helped break everything down. I really think Solas will eventually ally with us, but I reckon he'll be taken captivate by whoever came out of the Veil first leaving his dagger behind which Rook will pick up. He has to stick around for that much needed conversation with the Inquisitor.😁 Very keen to see more of this during the next couple months, especially character creation.🙌
Great vid! I think you're right on the convo between Varric and Solas. Its perfect dialogue for confronting Solas. He's always got a great cause he's standing up for but his means are rarely justified by the ends. That or he's the biggest victim of Murphy's Law ever. Going to be SOOOOOO interesting seeing what happens here!
I think few things happened after end of preview 1 Varric dies 2 Solas not going die but think he might get stuck with literally like shadow of Mordor wear his spirit is conducted to rook
So if Solas was going to tear down the Veil, and that was going to kill pretty much everyone in Thedas, why did he seem surprised to see the other two Evanuris? Wouldn't he have been expecting them? Are they more powerful than he expected, despite having drawn on their power to do the ritual in the first place? Can this egg ever do anything right?
He wasn't trying to kill everyone, that has never been his intention just people assumed it. My guess is he wanted to weaken it and trap those gods there while restoring his peoples immortality some people would die but not as much as the people of thedas think. Actually he told them to leave it alone and that they did not understand the forces they were dealing with, what happened wasn't actually his fault it was varics and rooks. And yes they are more powerful and blighted to
Hard to say as we know pieces of them (spirits? or the evanuris' souls?) were still in Thedas tied to dragon souls which crop up as arch demons. Definitely hard to say anything definitively atm... but sooo excited to learn more!
1. Whats the dark spawn origin or where did it come from? Is it "Flemeth Revenge"? 2. Is Flemeth /Mythal the holy Andraste? She said she wants revenge for something. Was she in Love with someone like who is a "maker" ? The kegend said maker and Andraste falled in love. For examble Solas also is no god just a powerful mage, but in fairytails he is a god.
So i dunno if i agree about them not killing Solas right away just because we didn't see it in the trailer. I think that if (and it's a big if) they killed him off in this sequence, they'd avoid showing it for the same reason they avoid showing Varric's fate: if you show it in the trailer, you're likely to turn off the hardcore Solas (or Varric) fans, and they'll be less likely to buy in that case. By leaving it as an open question, people are more likely to buy just to get an answer
Solas isn't crying there - look at his clothes, his shoulders, and look at the environment. It was raining through the whole 20min game play video. However, he is absolutely working through complex emotions, I completely agree, and I absolutely went from "bad dreadwolf," to "oh... poor dreadwolf" just as fast haha!
So, Lady Sulevin, you are hoping to redeem Solas so you can get the romance you deserve. I thought that was the reason Bioware placed another enemy into the game, to give Solas a chance to go around bothering people.
I actually think Derek will be killed by one of the elven gods. This will cause a greater change in Solas. As he might start to question to breaking the veil
I see the elvan gods and im excited for that lore but im also curious about the blight guys specifically the architect, those sentient darkspawn was super cool lore.
I don't think Solas is the real enemy; I think he will change course somewhere in the game ... I think he is protecting his friends and will restore Bianca ... that would be so great ... maybe asking for too much drama :-)
There's some official art showing Rook holding Solas' knife, you can see it at the end of the teaser trailer, and back when the leaks came out, you could see Rook running around with what looks like it at their belt.
@@MalarikFilms hmmmm interesting but I don’t think so the gods are act 1 bosses and Solas is the end boss. I think Morrigan fully taking the mantle of Mythal is dlc boss she said she will have a reckoning
Why go to the city if the actual ritual is in the forest? Just go to the forest and you don’t have to deal with getting in trouble in the city. Plus why would Solas not just go directly as well.
I think you are absolutely spot on. As a Solavellan I think Solas will be our ally running away with Varric to a strong hold or base of operations where guess who will be waiting for him...Inqi!! I think the Inquisitor will have a confrontation with him and a reunion with a serious conversation where Solas will redeem himself. He is the only living god in the world and the only one who can tell our new band how to conquer the other two. My hope is that this happens... :) Great video thanks!
