A studios identity can live within the studio, not just the people that started said identity. It's up to the old guard to teach their ways, and pass on the torch to the new to take that and not only carry it on, but grow it. Yes the doctors are no longer there, but the old bioware was not the doctors, or any specific individuals, it was the bringing together of talent and passion for making the style of games that they made, embracing the things that worked, learning from those that didn't. There's no reason the new bioware can't do the same. You'd never make the same statement about Nintendo, and yet many of the greats have moved on, either leaving the company or putting their attention elsewhere. Nintendo games are the way they are because of the Nintendo identity, not a few specific people.

What does Dragon Age resemble? The ASOIAF rip-off that was Origins, the cartoony dating sim that was DA2, or the open world single player RPG that was Inquisition?
@@hihihi1q23 Dragon Age was inspired by their previous work on Baldur's Gate. It was supposed to be more of a modernized CRPG. It seems like people who tried it, that I trust, have seemed to come around on the combat system for Veilguard so it's all in the writing and later gameplay from what I can tell. I'd love Bioware to put out a good game again
I think it would be hard to fk up veilguard. They already did Andromeda and should have learnt their lessons and focus on their strengths which is what Veilgard seems to be doing. People are only whining at stuff that doesn't matter.
Thank you Ralph for bringing up physical disc prices in Australia. It's a huge deal to buy physical games. They are significantly cheaper in retailers.
As a big dragon age fan it looks very well made but really the wrong style. First 2 dragon age games were all about moral introspection, what it means to lead and what are you willing to do to win... this game looks like its completely ditched that even more than inquisition had. The maturity is all off. When people say they want dragon age to go back to being dark, they dont just mean death and blood. They mean we want moral greyness and maturity again. Not some technicolour generic quip thing. Just looking at the qunari you know theyve sanatised all the actual adult reading level stuff. Not that nice either that theyve made it less of an rpg instead of more, with less story role playing. More generic all round. Combat does look good though, although not controlling your party members anymore seems a big loss, especially when all the different classes seem to play very differently.
So u didn't hear the director saying that the story and choice and consequences will be the main point and the consequences will have more severity than the others or do u not want anything proving ur agenda wrong
@john-michaelvanzyl I don't have an agenda? I would rather the game be good. I love dragon age. I've read all the books. But I've watched cutscenes from this game. I can see how the choices work. I'm sure there will be choices in missions but the role playing is dismissed. You barely pick what your character says. It's the same as dragon age 2 again annoyingly, but the dialogue is more annoying. Take your weird culture war to twitter.
@@john-michaelvanzyl there is no agenda, if you go back and look at the first game, there is clearly a very distinct departure from the graphical style that allowed an appearance of a more mature game. When people see this game it looks more light hearted and whimsical.

I’m excited about DAV. I’ve gotten used to the art style even if there are things that I still don’t love about it. What I’m excited about, though, is the focus on the story and choice and consequence. They eliminated pointless fetch quests and made the side content relevant to the story. Which means they trimmed the fat and focused on the narrative. I don’t expect the game to revolutionize anything, but I expect to enjoy the story.
So far, Veilguard makes a really bad first impression. We can only hope that what we've seen so far is not indicative of the rest of the game, but it is likely. The design alone looks...questionable.

As someone else nicely put: As a longtime Dragon Age fan, the biggest draw to the franchise has always been the world, characters, scale and story. Combat always felt secondary and of little importance. So far the characters and their designs look stylistically ugly and unappealing, with armor and weapons that feel completely disconnected from the situation before like a marvel character. In every dragon age beforehand characters wore clothing that also fit their appeal, this isn't the case here. They somehow made an elf have the face of young woman with the body of a granny. The characters themselves, specifically the writing, appears incredibly dumbed down, full of writing tropes like the 'Maid and butler' routine where everything is explained twice over to your face and you never figure anything out yourself. On presentation alone, from everything so far, I hate to say it but it does not at all look appealing. Every Dragon Age game except for 2 has been incredibly ugly. Origins was widely criticized at release for its visuals, especially compared to Mass Effect 1. This game looks WAY better than the OG trilogy in terms of its art style. The only exception would be the Qunari, where DA2 still does it best.
Skillup literally mentions booting up space marine 2 to show off the graphics to whoever comes over. He gushes about graphics for a bit in that game. Downplay graphics all you want in this video the graphics are a huge part of the attraction. Especially when you see a trailer for a game.
Top surgery scars as a character option in a fantasy game is pretty crazy to me. Personally when I play a fantasy game I want to escape life not be reminded how goofy the West has become now.
You said it yourself, it's an option. You don't need to be reminded if you don't want to. The same incels screeching about this are the same incels that bought hogwarts legacy in droves because they thought they were sticking it to the DEI crowd when really it was just a bunch of lunatics against hogwarts legacy. Hogwarts legacy has an actual trans character in the game, this has an option to include top surgery scars.
Yeah like I'm not somone who calls 'woke' or all that nonsense but how tf is a qunari getting top surgery 😅 they come from a perverse communist culture where gender roles are enforced by law and freedom of expression isn't allowed. No way they having trans surgery this is clealry dumb pandering
FYI. The female body in this game is just a male body that you can attach (or detach) breasts to, you can also leave the surgical scars behind. Yes of course you choose your pronouns. Lets see how this goes, the hands on on this channel was positively GLOWING.
BG3 and Cyberpunk had you choose pronouns and also had body type separate from gender identity. Elden Ring also had you choose body type instead of gender and the female bodies were literally just slimmer versions of the male bodies with a chest. It's a standard thing in RPGs. No one cares about your culture war dumbassery.
prefacing this by saying i think console wars are dumb, i own a xbone, ps5, etc - i think i saw a tweet saying that Sony CEO's didn't feel they had enough competition to force them to lower prices, so that's why they felt they could ask that ridiculous price point
