Do you have high hopes for Dragon Age The Veilguard? I'm playing it at the moment and I thoroughly agree with Bertie, but let me know what you think... Zoe
@@mrchow5047 I am not sure about it. You’re just hating the game and judging without even playing. If you had at least a brain, you would play it before judging it based in nothing. If you are into Bioware games, you would know that a review or watching a 15 minute gameplay tells nothing about the game and the story itself.
We'll talk again in a few days when the sales news for this game comes out, with media outlets expressing disbelief at its lack of success, despite enthusiastic reviews like this one.
It was clear ever since they announced it that big review outlets were supsiciously optimistic about the game while basically nobody else believed in the game. I hope for the devteam that the game is good and it does well but there's so much about the game that is being ignored when it's objectively badly done it's a bit crazy. Like writing, art style and so on is subjective but there are some fundamentally flawed stuff on display in this game. Like I'm really frustrated at how little it's been mentionned that this game has the most lazy console UI made in the last decade for a franchise that was born out of the crpg genre (which stands for Computer RPG, not console). They didn't even bother making the HUD for keyboard they just used the exact same one and put the most awkward controls on top of it and called it a day. Who in their right mind will use CTRL + 6 as a keybind to call on their companion ability in the middle of a fight? This is just abysmal design and nobody talks about it and it drives me mad.
Fake news and you know it. Just one entitled youtuber complaining on twitter about not getting a code. Dantics was critical and didn't receive a code. Quit spreading lies to fit your narrative.
This review is like the exact opposite of the SkillUp review, with maybe the exception of the visuals and last sequence of the story. Everything else though, you're seemingly complete opposites - to him combat was superficial, to you it was engrossing. To him the squad was mostly boring and the exchanges inconsequential, to you a work of art. To him the quests were boring fetch quests, to you the complete opposite. What the heck.
@@Gotti360 I don't have impression - I generally find myself aligning with his tastes a lot, but I would have said the same about some of the staff at Eurogamer. But this one is really split...
Also DA1: Warden: I haven’t felt anything like that. Alistair: Really? Because I was watching you wolf down food the other day and I thought “it’s a good thing she gets lots of exercise”. Warden: What can I say? I’m a growing girl. Alistair: I’ll say! Uh... I didn’t mean it like that. Don’t hit me! I bruise easily.
@@djbpresents9584 Yeah yeah, all the real fans hate it, some reviewers say Bioware have returned to form; I'm gonna use what's known as "Critical thinking" and wait for the game to fully release, and - unless it's somehow worse than Anthem - I'll give it a try for myself and form my own opinion on it :)
@balazsteglasy1022 right above this on my feed, is a vid that calls DA:V a "huge dissapointment" and in the description he says "it's been a war of attrition with this SERIES" so I assume he's not liked a single DA
Its been well documented that review copies were only sent to outlets that rated the demo highly. This means EA hand picked who gets review codes hoping for the highest reviews possible. This is a fact. Doesn't mean the game cant be good but its incredibly suspicious behavior.
Implying that veilguard is better than origins, mass effect, baldurs gate, and Kotor is just begging for downvotes and hateful comments. You must have seen this coming.
@@supertavio2 I don't care whether a reviewer loves or hates the game. I'm personally looking forward to it. But that doesn't change the fact that directly saying that veilguard is better than literally every single other bioware game ever made was never going to go down well.
@@undertone8367 Me too, man. I just want to experience it for myself, but there's a lot of people that seem so eager to just hate on it. Sorry if I sounded a bit too harsh, I also don't expect it to be better than those you mentioned, but the discourse around this game is driving me nuts. Hope we can both have fun with it
@@supertavio2 The game will Come out and People will have a say. This review might look really stupid when that happens. It's a big claim to make on a video. BUT HEY! Then the views and clicks are already in 😅
Re. review codes: It has nothing to do with BioWare at this point, it’s EA. I feel it’s really important to clarify that fact as that’s where peoples ire should be directed - at the Publisher, not the Development team whom (like so many other studios) have lost most of their agency since being swallowed-up by EA and are now micro-managed by corporate ghouls like the reprehensible Andrew Wilson. So to all Gamers who may have issue with this game or the review codes and how it’s all being handled, focus your frustrations on the Publisher - EA, and not the Dev. Team who will have done the absolute bloody best they can with the tools and boundaries that they now are forced to work within the confines of. That’s on EA - not the Devs.
Sure, if you ignore how many of those enemies and bosses are recycled from Demon's Souls, Bloodborne and all the Dark Souls games. And then let's get into how many bosses become common enemies elsewhere. Elden Ring is a classic case of total bloat.
I feel like Eurogamer is basically saying we like action RPGs, but we don't like RPGs, we like action. This is an impressive stance to have considering this thought process actively alienates the people who played the game many years ago. As if we are saying that you're better off not playing the games before. This opinion would feel a bit less, absolutely stupid if the game itself didn't keep making direct references to the games that came before while looking at the player going, "Remember this moment!?" They don't remember this moment, because they didn't like that moment it seems. So I ask, who is this for? Fans, or new people?
A good game can be a good game regardless of whatever the studio/publisher is up to with the entire franchise though. I liked the older games because of the more RPG/strategy take on things (and there are enough third person fantasy action games in the world for me), but that doesn't mean that this one must be a bad game.
Remember when gamers weren't such unnecessarily negative weirdos and could try a game without looking for an echo chamber of people to tell them to like it or hate it? Reviews aren't meant to tell you what to think its to show the mechanics and gameplay and give you room to FORM YOUR OWN OPINION I know that part is hard for some of you
Ngl man. This specific type of comment is getting suspicious. This whole condescending attitude people are using to almost shame anyone who isn't gonna buy the game or doesn't think it looks good. Ironically, people did form their own opinion. You just don't like said opinion
@@TNTspaz Nah it's about a specific set of people (in this case alt-right incel/homophobe types) who love to just dogpile on videos about certain things and spew shite into the comments in the hope that people will believe they're "the silent majority" instead of a sad little group of insecure turds. You can tell who they are because none of them have anything constructive or useful to say, nor are they intersted in discussing the good/bad things about the game (or video), they just post negative rubbish.
@@TNTspaz what's suspicious about people getting tired of over the top hate bandwagons on every video they watch for every video game, tv show, etc.? No one cares if you don't buy the game. You could just not care about it. No need to play the victim about being ''shamed and condescended to'' just because normal people get annoyed by your weird obsessive behavior. People didn't form their own opinion, because the game is not out yet.
Definitely a suspect review. If you only listen to this review, it's like as if the game is an unequivocal GOTY; a generational game at the level of things like The Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption 2, Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate 3. Every sentence is so positive. It's so....artificial.
@@HollowKnight21Your hypocrisy is sky high. RDR2, Elden Ring and BG3 got HUGE free passes for outdated mechanics, massive amounts of bugs, broken mechanics, and in Larian's case, not even finishing the game before release.
@@mandu6665 Because OBVIOUSLY a game is assessed in its entirety. The sum is greater than its parts. When the combined whole is so good, you can totally ignore a few bugs and inconveniences here or there. That's the case with RDR2, Elden Ring and BG3. Also, these games got universal acclaim from critics. But when you have a major outlet acting like it is the greatest thing since sliced bread (really? greatest Bioware game EVER?) and other famous outlets/critics are saying it is shit, it makes unequivocal praise very suspicious.
So it's better than Baldurs Gate, KOTOR, DAO, Mass Effect trilogy, etc? Are you 10? Im 46 years old, played all Bioware games on release, way before RU-vid was created. Please, stop with this nonsense, most of reviews are negative.

Remember people. Always watch several reviews before spending your hard earned money. The developers refused to send review copies to people they thought would review it negatively. We on console do not get to return bad games, plus we have to spend money. These people do not. Im just trying to let people know to look at more sources before spending so much money
That’s pure conjecture. They didn’t cherry pick reviewers to pad their review scores. If they did, they would never have given SkillUp a review code, as he’s been nothing but ruthless on how he sees the Veilguard since it was first revealed. Problem with him is that he doesn’t review games for what they are, but rather how it’s not as he dreamed it would be.
@@kaylocks2617 I suppose you have tons of money to burn on mediocre games then? Or do you play through steam so you can refund if a game sucks. Because remember, many games can seem okey the first couple of hours but then after a bit you start to feel the repetitive gameplay loop and start regretting buying it. That’s why it’s so good to watch several reviews now that everything in life has become so expensive. So you don’t waste money. Edit : I’m just trying to help you guys, so it’s up to you if you want to listen or not
They were mostly positive in their impressions thou. But, again fake news because you hate the game no matter what. First: "Everyone will hate the game". People who played liked the game so they get paid. Second. "Preorders are very bad". Top 5, and top 10 in Steam in most countries. People just want to see more content before buy. And now the third fake. Just people who already liked the game received a key to review. This is the funniest because there are many positive reviews so....Are you saying the game is actually good?
@@equilibrium8545 A lot easier if you just buy physical so you have 30 days to swap it for something else. Steam is also a good point, a few hours is enough for most people to know if they'll stick with a game or not. @@lukedunford3002nope i just realised the reviews came out like 5 mins before i wrote the comment but skillup, mrmattyplays and many other non-shill reviewers hated the game so there's no way Eurogamer unironically thinks it's the best bioware game to date
@@Maddox_ClayneIt's more so that these establishment journalists hate the conservative gamer audience, who I disagree with mind you. They overrate all games that this demo doesnt like. They even overrated dustbord, which was a commercial disaster.

You'll probably miss out on a lot of the emotional context with returning characters and be a bit confused about the setting, but Veilguard is a bit of a soft reboot for the larger choices made by players in previous games, so I think you could probably jump in here and be okay. I'd recommend giving the whole series ago, if and when you might find the time, but go for this, if you like.
I think the developer intention was for the game to be a jumping on point for new comers and I recall one review praising it despite disliking every other dragon age. I think it was Forbes, but I'm not sure I'd probably recommend getting the older ones on steam though. EA has been putting them on sale for 3-4 $ recently. I've started Origins a few months ago and really enjoyed it.
Without spoiling, this is a direct sequel to inquisition. I have faith that bioware tried to make it as inclusive as possible for newcomers, but I'm positive you will not get all there is to get out of this game without at least playing inquisition. That being said I'm a lore goblin. If this is the game that gets you into the series and u aren't interested in playing the other games, then jump right in! Ghil Dirthalen (the queen of dragon age lore) has some very good spoiler light stuff she released on her channel specifically for newcomers like you if that interests you. It can give you a good intro to the world without ruining the past games if you ever want to go back. Make sure you look for videos marked spoiler-free!:)
Reminder to wait for reviews from the content creators that were not given review codes who were lukewarm about the early access unless there is a reviewer you absolutely trust.
From what ive seen is this is a very on rails kid friendly action game. God of war meets Shrek. 60+ of which the last 2 hours are meant to be fantastic. Ill wait for a sale, but giving it a 5/5 and stating its the best game they have made is wild to me.
Gonna have to wait for more reviews. So far, this is the only one that has been overwhelmingly positive and the fact that some major independent didn't get review codes doesn't sit well with me. Still cautiously optimistic but need to read and see more opinions.

I mean, we can use reviews of this game as a barometer for journalism integrity. Saying this is the best Bioware has ever been in *capitals* is just embarrassing at this point. You enjoyed it, good for you, but there are as of now hours and hours of detailed illustrative reviews with receipts and cutscenes that explain with transparency why the writing of this game is mediocre. Bioware didnt equal mediocre writing back in the days. We'll still buy the game and have a bit of fun for old times sake but come on Eurogamer, seriously.
They've come from some hate farmer or other just to post crappy comments. Apparently some incel or other was pissed off that they weren't given a review code 🤷
Remember that a review is really at the end of the day someones opinion. People still have this "logic"?
