But can we talk about how Frieza got dicked by Broly for an hour?

I love how when Gogeta goes SSGB Broly was never able to hit him once and the music changes to a tragedy.

I actually don't necessarily see Bardock as a "good guy" in this version, so much as he's an example of the "even evil has standards" and "even evil has loved ones" tropes. Like, he's still perfectly happy and willing to conquer planets and destroy and enslave different species and races of people on those planets, but he does care about his wife and his sons to at least some extent. And I do say sons because he does ask about Raditz when he returns to answer Frieza's summons to the planet.

You wanna know something? When the Broly movie was released, Broly's survival WAS the tension that I was thinking about the entire time. I was not thinking about who wins or loses, but only whether Broly would survive the fight or not. And in the end, Broly did survive, and I am so thankful for that.

It's worth noting that the "Have fun, Freeza" line doesn't even remotely happen in the japanese dub. There's no line there by Goku. That was completely brilliantly written in by Funimation

I loved how King Cold flat out says Freeza is an even more ruthless person. It's like he's basically saying, "By the way, if you thought I was a bad ruler, it's about to get a lot worse." On a more somber note, RIP Chris Ayres. I believe this was his last performance as Frieza.

Something you realized...Broly became that strong just from fighting monsters, exercise, and drinking bug fluids. He really did gain that much power by doing push-ups, sit-ups, and drinking LOTS OF JUICE.

something that occurred to me on my second time watching, Broly smiled after Goku mentioned training with him, only two people trained with broly, paragus and Bah, so Broly must have figured when goku wanted to train, he just wanted to be friends, thats why he didnt act hostile unlike the other two

Broly: Hey Frieza. You said Resurrection F is pretty big, right? Frieza: Yes. Why? Broly: Because my movie IS MAXIMUM!!!

I love the idea that Broly gave Paragus his scar. I like to think that the events were Paragus shot Bah’s ear off, Broly took Bah’s ear as a memento, When Paragus tried to take it off him Broly attacked him out of anger, and only then did Paragus give Broly the shock collar to keep him in line.

One of the saddest things in the whole series was when freeza is destroying planet vegeta and it zooms in on his scouter and you just see the number dwindle to 0. The music, and animation just made it a heavy scene.

Original Broly: Meh. New Broly: Must Protect Big Boi

I liked the last line because it means Goku accepts himself as a Saiyan, and registers Broly as a fellow warrior.

One of my favorite jokes is frieza explainin what repugnant means to Goku Goku: "What's repugnant mean?" Frieza: "It refers to something incredibly miserable" (END OF THE MOVIE WHERE GOKU VISITS BROLY) Goku: "I've heard that this world is repugnant..."

Favourite things in this video: - "ass scarf" - Broly and Cheelai having a Tarzan and Jane thing going on - all the little vegeta vibes

Noting the character animation, my favorite is Broly's kiddish moments. It was subtle but when they talked to Frieza, Broly pokes Friezas floaty pod thing and it just slowly drifts away while everyone else was talking

What makes Frieza's wish great is something that I'm honestly very surprised none of them mentioned: It's the same wish as Commander Red had. That's genius.

Its worth keeping in mind that the dragon radar was never recovered from the frieza force soldiers, meaning frieza can easily track down the dragonballs any time he wants now

I just want to point out the irony of Paragus getting executed the way he does. Out to save Broly he executed this poor saiyan guy like he was nobody for some convenience. And now here he is being executed in the same exact way by Frieza, like he's a nobody for some convenience. Also how the dimension breaking was ELUDED TO in the super series. Whis was worried that reality would shatter if two gods of destruction (or at least people comparable to gods) would clash, and here they are years later actually paying off that hint.

5 years later when they do the abridged: Vegeta: "Awghhh thats so cool. How many push ups? How many sit ups? WHAT KIND OF BUG JUICE DID HE DRINK?"

I think that line at the end is the first time Goku actually referred to himself as Kakarot, or at least the first time he really embraced his Saiyan heritage. Vegeta would be so proud!

People like to say Gogeta is the “playful” fusion but, baring GT - anomalous as it is, Gogeta seems to be very no nonsense. He instantly handles Janemba, he puts the fear of dying back into a mentally broken Broly, he’s pretty no nonsense

"What you ever seen a first person perspective in a fight in Dragonball?" Yeah, when Trunks cut Frieza in half. Grated, it was a finisher instead of a fight, but is still _blew my fucking mind_ when I saw it.

Speaking of the tension, I think you guys are right in that the tension isn't 'Will the Earth be destroyed?' Throughout the entire movie, I wasn't worried in the slightest about Goku, Vegeta, and the gang. I was worried for Broly, Cheelai and Lemo. There really was something unique about it, too. They're not *THE* main cast of Dragon Ball. For all I knew, it was entirely possible that Broly would die, and Cheelai and Lemo would get wiped out by Frieza, none of them to ever be revived, and it was an awesome new feeling of terror to have for these characters.

This movie truly feels like OG DB. ...but with alot of Z in the fights. as things should be!

Frieza getting his shit kicked in for an hour straight was the best thing ever. I almost felt bad for him, but then I was like "Nah, he deserves this."

Can we talk about the nice parallel to dying Namek with Freeza and Broly? Out of nowhere, Freeza finds himself alone in a burning hellscape with a /very/ angry super saiyan who's transformation he caused.

My theory is Broly will be the first person to become SSJ4 in canon. He's almost there already.

If Toriyama can turn Broly into an actual character, I'd love to see what he could do with Cooler.

Fun fact: Gohan had *literally* no screen time. They didn't even show Buu-Gohan.

Everyone mad that Gogeta don't use big bang kamehameha, but vegeta's galick gun wasn't purple.

Something I think is worth mentioning is Broly's response when Goku paralyzes him. You can see Broly snap back to sense for a second and I think it's a beautiful moment that foreshadows the possibilities that Broly can reign shit in but also that he realizes there might be more to life than fighting to survive

loved the broly movie though when i watch the scene with king vegeta and baby broly all i can hear is "can someone bring me a better dagger so i can properly stab this baby"

I also love that when Goku has Broly paralyzed, what Goku says ACTUALLY SINKS IN A BIT! He gets through to Broly for a small bit. I loved that.

I loved the scene where cheelai took the remote. Not because it's a good scene, but because paragus is staring at her AS SHES TAKING IT!!! But doesn't notice it's gone

Goku getting Loki-ed while Vegeta is off to the side: *(Flashback to Namek)* Vegeta: "If our roles were reversed, you'd be dead, and I'd be laughing..." He's just watching Goku get beat up while eating a bucket of popcorn 😆

I am surprised you haven't mentioned it, but Paragus is the first (canon) Saiyan with grey hair. Which means he has to be REALLY old. Edit: Also, a bit of a theory of mine: Considering how King Vegeta immediatly walked up to King Cold and extended his hand to shake, and then was surprised to be ignored, I think the 2 were actually on good terms (before Freeza entered the picture). So...maybe the story about King Cold subjugating them is actually a lie. Maybe he helped them out in the past (by giving them space ships and other tech) and the ancient Sayains swore loyalty to him. Then, at some point discontent grew over that and the lie that they were forcefully made to bow was born.

20:25 now I want a prequel series set around Vegeta and Radditz growing up together just to see the extra saiyans in that scene get killed off

One of my favorite things about the fight scenes that you guys didn't mention is the different in fighting styles between Vegeta and Goku. Vegeta was all brutal. Pure saiyan-style "I'm gonna kick your ass with my power". Goku, on the other hand, is using legit martial arts. He's knocking Broly off blanace by using his own momentum against him. He is dodging moves from the same Broly that just beat the crap out of Red Vegeta by just staying calm and observing. It really shows the different between their upbringing and training.

As Broly was driving him into that cliff Frieza should have shouted "I JUST WANTED TO GET TALLER!"

Frieza: "Ahem......BROLY LOOK, IT'S SUCH A TRAGEDY!!!" Broly: "Huh?..." Frieza: "ITS YOUR FATHER, HE WAS KILLED BY A STRAY ENERGY BLAST!!!" Broly: "...agh...RRRAAAGGGHHH!!!!" *TRIGGERED SUPER SAIYAN BROLY EMERGES* Frieza deserves both a Oscar Nomination and a absolutely hilarious and brutal Ass Kicking from Broly!

Paragus was an abusive dad because he cared about his son as an object more than as a human being. He wanted something very specific from his son, and didnt care who his son was as a person. Also I googled trunks and all the shit was dragonball,, all the way down.

It's cool that this film and Infinity War are showing franchises that the narrative doesn't always have to revolve around the main characters all the time. When Gogeta shows up, the focus of the fight really shifts to whether or not Broly can survive.

This version of Broly is objectively better than the old Broly. Also, I love how they just turned him into Space Tarzan

A detail that I have appreciated about the Paragus/Broly relationship: when Paragus describes it to Frieza, he says it's a WEAK current he's using, and that's a great contrast with the visceral fear on Broly's face and it shows you just how abusive Paragus was to Broly, and it sets up when he uses the collar and you see it and remember that to Paragus it's just a weak current. Also, I don't think we are supposed to understand Paragus. Yes, king Vegeta was horrible and Vampa was too, and their lives would have been horrible, but that doesn't impact their relationship. We are shown that Broly isn't hard to control, he is a sweet guy and coul probably taught just to avoid turning into great ape, or even if he did Paragus could hide easily and there isn't much that he could destroy, and we are also shown that he is strong enough to allow them to survive easily, so he didn't need to push him that far, he only to fuel his own personal vendetta. The only reason Broly needs to be controlled is that Paragus keeps pushing to that point, and then complains that he can't control him. It just doesn't work that way. Also, I love that the new scouters now don't explode but just give up when people are too powerful.

In 10 years when they make dbs broly abriged broly should say My power...... is *MAXIMUMERIST*

My headcannon for why Goku wants Broly to call him Kakarot: Alright, so we know Goku doesn't care about the Saiyan race. They were all murderers and they have almost no redeeming qualities and quite frankly, the only Saiyan Goku actually got along with was Vegeta, and even that was hard to get to. There's Tarble too, but Goku doesn't know him THAT well. But the thing is, Goku loves being a Saiyan. If it weren't for the fact his race was made up of a bunch of dicks, he'd probably have tons of Saiyan pride. And in comes Broly, who is like the perfect friend for Goku. He's strong, but not evil. He loses control, but not intentional, and he has a ton of potential. Goku's saiyan pride is stimulated by this, and for the first time ever, he probably feels proud to be part of the Saiyan race.

Bardock isn't psychic anymore. Goku's father is an average warrior, but a brilliant detective.

They didn’t exactly make bardock a “good guy” he still probably killed many innocents and claimed many worlds. A bad guy who cares about his son or successor isn’t too uncommon

Kaiser sounded so cute when he talked about how hot broly was.

I'm surprised there was no mention of how the Frieza Force finally fixed their scouters so that when they read a power they can't quantify, instead of exploding, they just blank out. It was such a little thing, but when Lema tried to measure Broly's power and it turned into dashes instead of exploding, it seemed like a really cool piece of continuity.

My biggest tension was whether Broly was going to die or not lol

I feel like Goku telling Broly to call him Kakarot was a bit more than just a nod to the fans. With the exception of the hybrid saiyans on Earth, every saiyan has called him Kakarot. In my head-canon at least, asking Broly to call him Kakarot is Goku embracing his saiyan heritage.

Vegeta gives out a hand to King Cold, but he gives him the Cold shoulder........ I'll show myself out

Know this video was made a long time ago, but fuck it. I disagree that this movie's version of Goku's backstory makes him some "Child of Destiny". I'd argue that Father of Goku did that even more, with Bardock seeing the future and that Goku was going to fight Freeza, as if it was his "destiny" to avenge the Saiyans. With DBS Broly's backstory, sure he was sent to Earth intentionally by his parents, but not with any goals of avenging the Saiyans or becoming a great warrior. He was simply sent to Earth so he could survive, and Bardock even says to Goku "Listen son, you do whatever it takes to survive, got it?" So yeah. I don't really get Goku somehow being a "child of destiny" when he was sent there simply to survive in DBS Broly, when in Father of Goku Bardock saw the future and saw that Goku was going to fight Freeza, making more that is was his destiny.

I love the part at the end because as far as I know it's the 1st time Goku has ever referred to himself as Kakarot

One of my favourite bits is after Vegeta vs Broly, Vegeta doesn't actually get beaten to a pulp and THEN Goku has to jump in. Vegeta doesn't actually get shit on in this film and it's so much justice to his character. Also, I lost my shit when Broly starts attacking Whis!

The thing that shocked me the most... I saw this movie in a theater in a small Arkansas town, I have NEVER seen a theater this full in my ENTIRE LIFE
