inb4 taken down by Toei. I really hope it isn't. But seriously, this is great. Putting the actual animation with your commentary adds so much more. Now I can actually see a lot of Naoki Tate. I didn't realise just how many effects he did. Nor did I realise how many shortcuts they did.
"Only a Chilling Elegy" for the opening? I feel like that's unnecessarily epic. About the actual thing: I liked how you broke down the episode's highs and lows in an easy-to-understand way, and also showed corresponding footage so we didn't have to go back and check the episode. Great job!
Absolutely want to see more stuff like this. The forum thread is great and all, but visually seeing things in action and being explained in greater detail is awesome. Great work! Fitting how Tate is the one you start with ;) I also want to add that I like Tate when his work is rough for some reason. There's a charm to it. Episode 56 was great, but I really like it when Tate exaggerates stuff more (I mean it's there a bit in 56, but not as much as 38). Love his loose work. His art is rough at times sure, but I'd put that down to the schedule more than anything. I completely forgot Tate did work on the Tiger Mask opening and such. I guess it means he really didn't have as much time since 56 than I thought he did. I'm almost certain Karasawa is due up next week. Shimanuki is there apparently in full force despite it breaking the normal rotation. So if Karasawa is there too it's gonna be crazy. Though the question would remain who the fuck will do the week after episode? Next week is gonna be great, but I'm scared to see what the next episode will do to the schedule.
DarkFalcon agree. Also glad to see familiar names like you my friend. There are so many familiar names in the comment who I talked to on other videos lol where we were cleaning up misinformation or we were spreading our knowledge around
Mhm. Same here. Also I think TOEI goofed and showed us the preview for NEXT weeks episode. Pacing wise this feels like it went from one thing to the other way too quickly.
***** Yeah they were trying to get people hyped with the preview. They skipped Goku's 'life risking attack' to destroy the ring of light to Vegito in the preview. Well that's what I expect from previews. They show the highlight for each episode preview to pull in the audience. Combine Vegito and Shida's animation and you get a hyped up preview. It's meant to pull and hype the audience for next episode. I don't personally think it's bad from a business point of view and the best way to avoid spoilers is to not watch the preview. My prediction is that I believe the preview happens in the second half of the episode. The first half is about the spoiler we got weeks ago and just before the commercial break, Vegito appears. Then we get Vegito vs Zamasu. I also have a prediction for Zamasu's disgusting purple form. It's quite far away from what I've heard from other people but the halo is quite similar to Whis. This can be interpreted as Zamasu achieving the power of the angels. The disadvantage is that if it breaks which we know Goku will break it(I assume he's gonna use Kaioken as his life risking attack), he becomes a fallen angel, or maybe turns into one of the demonic people and we see that mutation happening. This can become something bigger where we are finally introduced to the Makaioshin. This can be the weakness of Whis. If you manage to break the halo around his head, the same thing happens to him and Vados. Let me know your thought on that prediction theory and if there are any plot holes.
Yes please continue this, I was so confused with who was animating this episode since Tate did work two episodes back. I'd say it was a much better episode than last weeks. Just amazing effects animation.
IKR. He has a simple style and his animations are very fluid. People where bitching because some frames looked odd, but I take fluid animation over good art any day.
harun öner No. Some naoki tates frames are just horrible, all sloppy and off model with unrealistic movements and expressions... I dont want shitty drawings with fluid animation thank you.
There's an amazing amount of excitement in seeing new DBS content animated on television without having the stories already spoiled by reading it previously in manga form. With that said I am still in favour of the manga to get ahead of the anime again so the animators have some solid storyboards to reference by Toyotaro.
Fantastic work as always Ajay, while I read your topic on Kanzenshuu religiously animation discussion benefits so much more in a video format. Please keep these coming!
Looking forward to more of these. You'll probably have a field day with episode 66 next week, because going off of what they've shown in the NEP, it'll be beautifully animated.
Keep up the good work! You know how to edit videos (and make them look good), which is something most youtubers are lacking, and most importantly, you know what you are talking about. Big fan!
I really enjoyed this type of video! I'm sure the community will also enjoy learning more about what goes on within the animation and each episode as myself does. Look forward to next week's!
That was a great video, love the layout especially, animation showcases are way better in a video format since you can see everything in motion, hopefully Toei don't mess with this video! Great work AnimeAjay!
really nice video here, man- very close attention to detail, I appreciate it. i dont even like the anime, but this is really well researched, I love it.
Definitely love this video! If you actually can't continue with the Animation Supervisor series, this is a great replacement series (or ya know, both if you can manage it ;P ). Also, super excited for next week's episode!
Yes this so informative to the older lots like my self watching super. Also got me very interested in animation works now too. Your a good guy mate! Keep up the good work
Love these videos, very informative. Thanks to you now I am understanding why the animation to Super the way it is. What is the song used in this video?
I can't wait to see your comments on next week's episode, based off of the previews it looks like Classic DBZ art. I hope everything is perfect next week.
On a very basic level, they take a key animator's rough work and finish it off/clean it up - i.imgur.com/cTA6pH5.jpg - It's done in Super so that talented animators can produce excellent motion in good time without worrying too much about polishing the work.
Tate's work is good only when it's corrected. This did not look pretty at all. I also dislike the dust and explosion effects. Some of those effects were also done with a compositing program and were not hand drawn. Some effects did look good though, nice video.
I think his works at it's least interesting when his corrected. His smoke effects are a lot better than most working on the series, for example I prefer the cloudy goofyness of Tate's smoke than the blunt roundness of Futoshi's.
Love it. Keep up the good work. I'm happier with the weekly video instead of me going to kanzenshuu animation catalogue. Much more convenient in my opinion. Hope this series doesn't end until the end of DBS
It had the characteristics of a rushed episode. Like Aaron said it doesn't mean bad, but there was a lot of recycling, and there were a few scenes where you could see Tate had to rush and just scribble characters in there. Of course people will look at these and ignore the absolutely gorgeous shots.
Ajay That is good he usually does an episode once every 7 weeks so I guess he got a little extra time on this one. Also how is it possible under supers schedule that yashima did back to back episodes?
Nyan Dream Yashima specialises in solo animation. He's used to working fast. He only did half an episode each time, so it was essentially like working on one for him.
