Fun fact? Every version of Cell is voiced by Takahata, voice of Nappa, Dende, Guru... Dude is just CRAZY talented with immense range. He just keeps churning out beloved performances.

"Ki Ko Go f*ck yourself!" will always be one of my favorite lines! Delivery was great!

Krillin saying the control for the detonator was "heavier than he expected" has a deeper meaning. Just think about it for a second

Some information about Tien's attack. The Kikōhō is more powerful than the Kamehameha, but has a serious drawback, that being that it draws on the users life-force as well as their Ki, which is why Tien died after using it on Nappa

That was the last time Cell called him Tien. It's Tenshinhan from now on :)

Tien deserved every glorious second of this. My first memory of him was how hard it was for him in the Saiyan saga back in the Kai series. A few years later and I stumbled across his first appearance the dragon ball manga at my local library. After getting to know him this moment didn’t even have to be abridged to give me the chills. And TFS must’ve felt that excitement and catharsis in order know how to do so much with it.

That Tien moment is my most watched scene of the abridged easily. Especially knowing 1 Kikoho used to bring him close to death is putting so much more weight into the scene.

Tien... the GOD-DAMN-MVP in the entire TFS Franchise! Shame we can never get a read on the Guy. 😐

Goku's humor comes from pure innocence mixed with stupidity. 16's humour comes from pure dryness and logic ^^

Tien gave all even when he knew he was no match and that he will surely die. That´s the definition of courage, a very inspiring moment on the series, showing that no matter your capabilities, if you go all in you can make a difference no matter how small.

Tien proves this episode that damage means nothing if you have knock back.

Something that doesnt get mentioned in DBZ enough. Tien's attack literally eats his life force, he was literally burning his soul's candle to stall Cell, win or lose that was a death mission for him as far as he was concerned.

The Kikoho doesn't just take a lot of energy. It burns your own lifeforce away to increase its power. That's why Tenshinhan killed himself against Nappa and nearly died here as well.

When Semi- Cell says "Your compliance isn't a factor" Keep that line in mind and remember it. It will be VERY important later.

Tien is my favorite character. For some of his history: he and Chiaotzu were students of Master Roshi’s rival and so they were antagonists to Goku through a sizable chunk of Dragonball. Tien actually beat Goku in the World Martial Arts Tournament finals (Goku then beat him in the semi finals of the next Tournament). When Goku started training with Kami, there’s a moment where all of Goku’s friends lament how much stronger he’s going to be than all of them and Tien’s response is, “then I just have to train harder.” Tien is still determined to surpass Goku and still views him as a rival, even though Goku has FAR surpassed what Tien is capable of. Tien reminds me of a quote from another anime character, Rider from Fate/Zero, “Glory lies beyond the horizon. Challenge it because it is unreachable.”

The fact you already noticed that 16 represents innocence is huge! That is exactly what he represents in this arc. Remember that going forward, because he still has a huge part to play.

Even though it was short, Tien needed these rare moments to remind us how he too was once a badass character from OG Dragon Ball that got quickly tossed aside once Z rolled around

There is a fan theory that 17 & 18 meeting 16 in this time line is what softened them and why they aren't as evil as they are in The History of Trunks

Love how excited you guys got seeing not only piccolo was still alive but vegeta finally coming out of the chamber. Your going to love it even more moving forward

Tien was my favorite character back as a Kid and the Abridged does him Justice. "Im the only serious one. That's the Joke."

Sadly, this episode marks the last time Tien will ever be relevant in Dragonball Z. Or Super, for that matter. Which is a shame - he's such a cool character, limited by the confines of the fiction.

I'm not gonna say anything to avoid spoilers but Bethany is really good at guessing plot points or character trajectories of series she has no experience with.

This was an OG moment by an OG character. Did you know in the manga or the actual show he held down Cell for hours and Cell basically couldn't do anything against him but Tien was gonna run out of energy sooner or later!

Sad thing about Tien is he was Goku rivil for a hot second then Demon King Piccolo then Piccolo Jr etc been a side character after his arc

Before you finish on DBZ since you said 16 is the heart for this season he has a key moment in the up coming episodes where TFS has a good version but you should see the orginal. It goes along with what you said.

Goku does care about Vegeta being stronger, in the sense that it's a new bar to surpass.

Without a doubt the most badass scene in DBZA and this is without a doubt one of the best episodes

So, short version on who Tien is. Midway through Dragonball they have their second tournament arc, with Goku, Krillin, and Yamcha having trained under Master Roshi, the Turtle Hermit. In this tournament, we get entries from school led by Roshi's former friend, the Crane Hermit Shen. Shen's entries are Chiaotzu and his star pupil Tien. The Crane school is very focused on assassination techniques, dominating and brutalizing your opponents before finishing them off. Tien is all in on that philosophy, breaking Yamcha's leg. But later fights with a disguised Master Roshi and the finals against Goku get him to see the error of his ways. Tien and Chiaotzu part ways with their former teacher, rejecting Shen's philosophies. By the by, Chiaotzu faces off against Krillin, and Krillin won on account of being able to do basic arithmetic.

I was in a bit of a slump before watching this. But laughing along with you guys with my favorite comfort series cheered me right up!

Oh man Tien was no doubt the MVP stalled Cell & save 18 his determination to help his friend even though he’s not as strong as them is inspiring even Cell was shocked by his power. Wish he got more moments like this he’s a really interesting guy.Glad to see Piccolo still alive after what happened. Cell’s bit with his lips at the start was hilarious too. Also got our first interaction with Cell & Goku was great goku being dead serious for a moment gave me chills

Here's a thing about Japanese animated series and manga, mangaka, they attend to forget about special abilities and or super powers.

Kikoho is still one of the best attacks in the series, and Tien will always b a badass, even if he's not at the proper level to fight, he's awesome!

Fun fact, the thing Cell was doing with his lips at the start and end of the episode is called a "bi-labial trill". There are so many things I want to mention, but I feel they're too spoilery. I will say this, how many villains has Goku defeated so far? In the Saiyan saga Nappa was killed by Vegeta. Raditz was killed by Piccolo. In the Freeza Saga Vegeta got most of the villain kills from Qui to Dodoria and Zarbon. Even Freeza was ultimately defeated by himself when he used Krillin's Destructo Disc technique. In the Cell Saga so far, even Krillin gets a kill on Cell and Vegeta again gets 1 kill on the clown android. Trunks slices up King Cold and Freeza again and Cell kills Android 17 who at that point definitively still counts as a villain. When you think about it, Goku really doesn't get too many W's. He was even straight up killed by Piccolo at the very start of the Saiyan Saga when Piccolo fired his Sakkosam... Masakop.... Special Beam Cannon at Raditz and Goku behind Raditz.

Krillin's "hole in the armor" joke is a reference to Episode 25, where 2nd form Frieza pieced him through the armor and chest. Very horny indeed.

And with the absorption of 17, the show is one step closer to perfection.

Though you can't tell from the editing, Tien beat up Cell for 2 hours, and this is essentially his defining moment in the OG series.

Tien used to be a dick... and the source is a rival school thing that really reminds me of the karate kid and cobra kai, now that I think about it. Tien and Chiaotsu. They were kinda huge dicks cuz they were trained that way. ofc, they changed their ways. Demon king piccolo is piccolo's father... sort of. They both tried to kill goku and failed. the start of dragon ballz training gohan is his redemption arc, really. Bulma was goku's first friend after his grandfather and she's the one who told him about the dragon balls and enlisted his help, since his grandfather had given him one of the balls and he kept is a memento of him. Lots of stuff happened in dragon ball, cuz the series is not short at all... so many characters and adventures. it was a quirky adventure and journey show for a while before it eventually evolved into more of a fighting series, especially with the introduction and return of the world martial arts tournaments. Love your reactions. Some of the in-jokes you probably miss but you're getting most of it and having a good time. the abridged series is heavily reductionist for humor, so goku, for instance, isn't as dumb as they make him out to be, but it's still a really fun watch. the original version of dbz would be interesting to watch (but sped up, cuz it is long and ofc is not as humor filled as a parody).

You know, you keep calling Goku innocent but he has actually killed a lot of people. However there can be an argument that pre dragon ball z the people he killed were bad guys and demons. And later in super a lot of people die indirectly from his actions (a least one timeline and several universes) In a way it almost feels like Goku stopped caring if people died because you can always fix it with the dragon balls.
