Let it be known, at the time Takahata101 (Person doing Perfect Cell's voice), was not even considered a professional voice actor. He really belted out that Frank Sinatra cover pretty well. And you will hear him again as the voice of Alucard. I honestly am surprised I haven't heard him in more stuff. He really is good.
It also points out that Goku wouldn't have been resurrected by the Dragon Balls, even if he hadn't already been revived by them once before. He wasn't on Earth when he died either!
"But the record shows, I took the blows, and did it MY way." Cell's farewell song is a masterpiece. Not only is it for him, it was for Team Four Star. TFS put their heart and soul into this series. The planned each and every chartered course. Each and every episode was made with passion. They may have had some regrets, but at the end of the series their regrets were too few to mention. There were times where they may have felt like they bit off more than they can chew, the multiple legal battles with Toei animation and all. However, through it all, they did it their way. They saw it through to the end without exemption, and truly it was to perfection. TFS truly created a masterpiece. Something that will be watched and enjoyed by new viewers, even years from now Thanks for letting us go along with the ride!
Not sure if it was intentional or not (this being TFS, it's possible) -- but in the original japanese dub, Cell kills 16 and says something like "thank you, but I'm doing things my way". So yeah... if it wasn't enough that the song is a perfect fit for the context (no pun intended), it still references the source material somehow.
Krillin and 18s relationship gets expanded on even more in Buu Saga and Super. It's actually kind of sweet how supportive of Krillin she is by the end. Literally a line in Super where she chastises him for comparing himself to Goku. "This isn't the man I fell in love with, you dork! Now strap yourself up, hit that gym we bought for the house, and do something about it!"
Well normally when people watch DBZA they go right into the Buu saga, so they may end up watching that next. Since they don't need to watch 3/4ths of DBZ anymore as this was a perfect abridge of it that explains the plot, side plots, etc. just fine. Or maybe they'll try out Dragon Ball. Do a prequel kinda thing.
@@GabrielRodrigues-fg6ex Nope. They canceled all plans for Buu Saga a few years ago due to burn out, and that included the Bojack movie. At this current point in time, while they have ideas, they're just not interested in fighting with Toei to work on something that they won't make money off of and all the DragonShortz and HFIL episodes have been more creatively fulfilling for them because they have complete control there.
This was truly a perfect end for this show. The way Goku said goodbye not only to his friends but in a way also to the audience members who followed this series for over 10 years gets me every time...
Makes me tears up still, I was like 7 when the series started and it was the first dragonball experience I ever had. Got in trouble for telling someone on my bus that they were a prison bitch that’d I’d sell for a cigarette in like 3rd grade😂
Well, this is it! Ken and Bethany, it was amazing to watch you both go along this journey together. I am glad yall enjoyed it as much as yall did! I look forward to seeing yall continue your journey with Kai.
By far my favourite reactions to DBZA. No constant pausing, genuine reactions, no prior knowledge of the series... Having watched DBZ as a kid and DBZA much later, it was just great and refreshing to see.
I always loved that little leitmotif moment. It has so much weight behind it, both as Piccolo's redemption, a call back to when Goku surpassed his limits to defeat Demon King Piccolo, as well as the softer melody of it almost harkening to the father-son relationship between Piccolo Jr. and Gohan.
6:04 The sound mixing around here is *incredible*. The sound of the wind and ki blasts, Gohans the echoing scream, the music swelling. Wild how good TFS got by the end.
The way they play appropriate music from original, american OST and Kai as well as their own songs, like in the beam struggle here, which is a fantastic medley of piccolo's theme (og), gohan's anger, unmei no hi and cell's american theme. so goddamn good
"Take solace, Gohan! Though you have fought alone, you will not die alone! That is my last gift to you! A PERFECT DEATH!" At least Cell was still such a gentleman
Actually, he says "...that is my last gift to you... AN IMPERFECT DEATH." You can barely hear it, but it's there. Which is an extremely badass quote all around
@@martinizarrualde7101 In fact, if it says "perfect death", watch the original video with the subtitles. These are NOT generated automatically, that is, they are official subtitles.
@@NotASeriousCount Oh shit, just checked it, you're right. Either way, badass quote. I figured it was "IMPERFECT DEATH" as if to say "In the end, you couldn't reach my level." kinda thing
4:31 Is my favorite part of all Dbz abridged, Vegeta saying "Im sorry" with such sincerity, follow with shame and regret, just one short phrase but is masterfully done, tells the entire development of Vegeta with that. Still 1 episode more to go and you finish the entirety of this series.
“Down an arm and killed by an Android, why does this feel oddly familiar?” Future Gohan that trained Trunks lost his arm and then was killed by Android 17 & 18
One of my favorite lines in this entire series is Vegeta shouting "MY BABY BOOOOOOOOY"! Now that you've finished the show, are there any moments/lines/characters that stood out to you that you haven't talked a lot about yet?
In the end, while I am still sad at their decision to not continue with the Bojack Movie and the Buu Saga, as I feel they could have made gold with some of the scenes and storylines, this truly was the Perfect place to end the series. Especially considering that Toriyama wanted to end the Manga here as well, but was sort of forced to keep it going (which is why everything after this gets so ridiculous sometimes, as it's Toriyama pushing back against his editors by making it more goofy and less serious at times)
@@mrmxypltk no Toryama didn't wanted to end at Cell saga it's an urban legend, he planed buu saga because he wanted Gogan to be the main protag for a new arc, he just less listened to the suggestions of his editor like the previous arc with the notoriety he gain with the previous arc, so he made Buu arc like he wanted, and Toryama is a comedy stuff maker in his soul before being a maker of epic dragon ball stuff, so it's not illogic that he turn Buu saga into some kind of a parody of the excesses of DBZ, but it's still pretty good for what it is.
@@mrmxypltk Bro Toriyama wanted to end the series numerous times even during OG dragonball. But It was never confirmed to be after the Cell saga. It was also rumored after the Frieza saga but again nothing official.
The Perfect End to a Perfect being. Thank you, Mr. Perfect Cell. You were creepy, hilarious, and an absolutely amazing character. May your Perfect Cells rest in peace.
RIP, Cell. You were truly the Perfect villain 🙌🔥 Also, that line from Krillin:"You've been a part of our lives for so long....". It truly feels like he's speaking for us 🥺
I remembered that My Way was the Cell send-off, but I did not remember that it wasn't a parody version, that it was just the beautiful unedited lyrics version that still fit so dang well!
Of course there made him sing. In the OG Satan was just taking credit for the Win, here he just did it to calm down his Fans. I like that Change, realy works whit his futur Charakter in Zs last Ark.
I’m glad that you guys enjoyed the show. There was SUPPOSED to be another season after this centering on the Buu saga, but a combination of copyright claims and TFS being creatively burned out. This was still a great ending to the show, though.
We will be continuing with DBZ Kai and watching the Buu saga that way. Won’t be able to show full reaction on RU-vid but at least we can continue with it 😅
Truly loved the TFS abridged dbz series. so glad to see others appreciate the thoughtfulness and quirky quips and good character writing of this masterpiece. you can really tell it was a work of love for TFS
"If someone with one arm speaks sign language, is that a speech impediment or an accent?" As funny as that line is, that's actually a good question now that I think about it...🤔
23:44 I always love how it’s at this moment, this triumphant bit of music they’ve used a few times before, they let play out in full. Gets me every time
There was a great speech by Piccolo in the original series, where he said he won't let Gohan die alone, and he and the other guys attacked Cell with beams. They all were useless and blown aside, but they didn't just stand there and do nothing. Vegeta had a little monologue praising Gohan - and Goku a little - before his attack finally helped distract Cell enough to end it.
27:00 a great little detail at the very end of the special thanks credits with a picture of 16. Is that just before it ends it’s revealed that android 16 has a halo over his head. Meaning, not only did he have a soul he went to heaven to be with the birds.
I love how Bethany's just so proud of Gohan for his evolution throughout the show. Like a proud momma. I can't wait for you guys to start DBZ Kai so that you can get an idea of what the actual anime does different and catch up with the one main saga DBZA didn't cover unfortunately. Looking forward to it!
1.The ending is *perfect* , not just for the Abridged but for an era of TFS. They put so much love and passion into every episode and created something that actually effected the writting of the main franchise . They stopped just where they needed to and made a masterpiece with Cell being their magnum opus. 2. While the Abridged is technically over, there is still *so much* content from TFS left for you guys to enjoy. HFIL in particular is something to look forward to.
I am not taking Credit, but a great quote to end this journey: Cell was made from the Universes greatest and most powerful forces - Frieza, Vegeta, King Cold, Goku and Frank Sinatra. Thank you for taking this road. It was an honor.
22:40 - Even at the end, nobody can get a read on Tien (lol) Honestly this was wonderfully done. Despite the long time it took to come out, it was well worth the wait. From Cell's beautifully done rendition of Frank Sinatra's Song, to the final message of TFS Goku at the end. So glad you two got to watch this! 👍
It's been quite a journey. Rewatching DBZA alongside you has helped me a lot these last couple months. A lot of grieving going on, and you two have been a very welcome distraction. Looking forward to Hellsing. Until then, "Bye, son!" ETA: Yep. Cried at the end.
Ending are always incredibly difficult to land but this is about as perfect as I've seen them get. Part of the credit goes to the original show of course but the rewrite is a masterpiece on its own.
What I love here, is it seems like Mr.Satan took credit to keep everyone calm, rather than for his own ego. It's such a small change, but a welcome one.
I do like the insinuation at the end with 16. He has a halo above him, meaning that Cell was wrong, he in fact has a soul and is now in heaven with the birds.
It was very touching by the end. (And supposed to be the original ending as well) He were also really sorry and feld sad for Goku being gone.. and this point he said "I will never fight again" ... well + Cell singing was 12/10 !!!
There’s a video where Lani and Kaiser talk about the ending art of 16, Kaiser said that the soul of the androids, their moral compass 16 didn’t get a happy ending like everyone else and the only reason was because he didn’t have a soul. It didn’t seem right but that art shows that 16 did have a soul and did go to heaven. It’s such a sweet small detail that just makes the end feel that much sweeter
This was such a bittersweet episode for me when it first came out. The series got me through some tough times and, for the better part of a decade, there was always another episode on the horizon, even if it was literally years. As I watched this episode, it actually made me tear up quite a bit as Goku was saying goodbye. But I remember thinking "if this is how it ends, I'm completely satisfied--this is a perfect ending".
I love you guys and this series was a blast and this is off topic so dont mind me.This is my own personal tfs time-line head canon so take it as you will. Its great writing, so I think the reason why Gohan reflexively saved Vegeta was because Vegeta saved Gohan from a very similar attack from Freeza on Namek. This adds to my tfs time-line headcannon that Cell knows how Vegeta died to Freeza and used the same move to kill him again. It was foreshadowed by Krillin and Cell when he was talking to that reporter. On top of that when Vegeta screws up he usually ends up getting his arm messed up in some way. So when Gohan does a Vegeta "mess up" he's the one who ends up with the "messed up" arm. It's such great writing all around from the creator to tfs abridging it.
This show was an amazing ride, I followed it nearly from the beginning through the years and I just love seeing other peoples reactions to the series. It truly is one of the best written things I have ever seen, bar none. The 4* crew made something truly incredible and its honestly been a bigger part of my life than the source material.
After this I really hope you guys check out some of the Buu saga even if things aren't the same a lot of character stuff comes into fruition and it's not as daunting as starting the series from the beginning
It was really nice to re-watch DBZ Abridged with you guys from beginning to end and seeing your reactions to everything that happened on the show was an absolute joy. Here's to DBZ Abridged and how much of a legendary show it truly was and always will be. Looking forward to you guys finishing this off with the Epilogue!
It was so amazing.. cause now i got to know: In the original show, they all were fighting against Cell in the end.. but in the Manga it was just Vegeta make the blast, so Gohan can finish him.. cause he finally understood.. this was his fault in the first place by Cell let 18 absorbed. !
It was awesome to watch you guys react to a very crucial part of my childhood. The later episodes didn't come out till 2016 but the Freiza and Sayain sagas will always hold a special place in my heart. Thanks for genuinely showing that you loved the series and for continuing to stick with it!
There's something else you probably overlooked, in the credits after 18 has sex with krillin, you see a shot of sixteen sitting under a tree surrounded by birds, and on his head.....is a halo . This is a retcon that TFS felt that they had to make because they loved sixteen and wanted him to go to heaven and be surrounded by birds, cause in the original it was just as Cell stated , he didn't have a soul and could not go to the afterlife like Goku and the others, due to being a purely mechanical being without a soul cause he was not alive.
Thats why the Krillin owned count is my favourite running joke, it lasted the whole series and really paid off in the end. It's gonna be -10000000 after a few years lol, wifing up Android 18 is the biggest win in Krillin's life.
Important detail to note: TeamFourStar considers that fanart of 16 at the end to be CANON. Note the halo above his head as the credits go on and the image zooms out (I know you cut it out of the video, just wanted to point it out) Cell was wrong. He *did* have a soul.
Man I wish I could give you guys an award. Your reaction to the series, key moments and this last fight and everything else was so awesome and genuine. You guys rock, and thanks for going into the original series. May God bless you guys, and all your endeavors.
I don't know if you guys noticed this but when Gohan was yelling at Vegeta and Vegeta apologizes you actually hear Gohan say "oh wow we really are fucked" in the fucked word is not actually bleeped and it's the only time throughout the entire show where it not bleeped. It's been so great watching this with you guys and going down this journey of Dragon Ball Z abridged and I really look forward to seeing what the next Abridged Series is if you're wanting to take suggestion I would strongly recommend Sword Art Online Abridged by Something Witty Entertainment.
Honestly they did Vegeta dirty there. He had everything (rage, losing someone, etc) to become a super saiyan 2 as well, but the series won't ever make him stronger than goku (or gohan in this case)
Kami really should teach piccolo how to heal people... or he should just absorb dende and go kidnap another kid for the guardian dragonball maker. cause that healing thing would really come in handy, even if it tires piccolo... he is often full of stamina in the background. I mean... Namekians could spit out a new egg just for Earth's Guardian, as long as piccolo agrees to stop absorbing them.
epilogue, Dragon Ball Shortz (which are what-ifs post Cell saga), and HFIL (which is basically a fanfic bridging between this saga and a filler saga in the anime that we ponder if they will do later or not, before Buu shows up). On that note if you wanted to check out the main show, as you seem to like comedy and action I can recommend starting with the original show (Dragon Ball) which was more of an action/adventure comedy, also gives a lot of background to things referenced later.
When you watch Kai, there is a deleted scene you will want to see. There is a moment in the original Dragonball Z where there is a TV recreation of the Cell Games, and when Kai was made, Funimation wanted to give a nod to TFS and how abridged renewed interest in everything Dragonball, so they had the guys from TFS provide the character voices for the TV recreation. Unfortunately, TOEI caught wind of it and made them cut it from the episode, with it later baing added back in with original DBZ voices, but it can still be found online. Chris Sabat, the Funimation voice of Vegeta and Piccolo actually made a minor guest cameo in Abridged at one point during Bardock: Father of Goku. Sabat and TFS regularly crash each other's panels at conventions.
Honestly i just dont see how even Team Four Star could ever top this. Best to go out while youre literally on top. Best parody/retelling ever. Of all time.
Fun Fact: Funimation who did the dub LOVED TFS going so far as to fly them out for events and give their blessing to the show. However, the Japanese company HATED TFS and is responsible for the takedowns that destroyed the project.
It's almost been a full year, and we finally made it to the end of DBZA. The epilogue and shorts, as well as HFIL are all really good. Getting to see people watch this for the first time was a treat, I'm hyped for you guys to watch Kai.
You know, I never really thought about why Gohan gave up his arm for Vegeta, but I just now remembered Vegeta saving Gohan from Freezer right after he killed Dende back on Namek.. So yeah Piccolo, Vegeta, really, lol.
2:38 and he finally becomes a parent! My favorite episode. On my birthday no less! It's been great watching this with you guys! Thanks a bunch! 😊 Also....Krillin deserved that with 18 after all the BS he went through this show! Good for him! 😂😂
That speech from Goku about not wanting to come back honestly caps the series so nicely. In hindsight it reads in a way that doesn’t make me sad it ended there
2:38 MY. BABY. BOOOOOOOOOOOOY!!!!!! Another of tfs vegeta's best moments:D It's really bad that this is not continuing, but with what we have, I'm happy to have it;)
The Dramatic Finish part is a reference to Dragonball FighterZ, where a fight will end with a cinematic referencing the series. The joke is that Gohan killing Cell is one of those Dramatic Finishes.
So meaningful that it was *Vegeta* who jumped in to blast Cell in the back. He went against everything he believed about "Saiyan pride" to help Gohan win.
I just realized a recommendation I forgot on Patreon! While I've previously recommended TotallyNotMark's "DBZA reviewed in 10 words or less," another 3 I've forgotten to recommend is DBZA Behind the Scenes. There's 3 videos, one for each season, split between Mark's channel and TeamFourStar.
They ended it perfectly, Cells death made the end of the series amazing. So sad they will never make the Buu saga but I'm happy they quit while they were ahead. Burnout can ruin a show and they recognized that
The "I never did get that boat." line is a reference to a wish 17 was going to make at the end of Dragonball Super. I believe it had ended around when this finale came out.
I say this every time at the end of a journey with you guys. But so glad to have watched you enjoyed something that i absolutely love. This was for sure the best one so far. Thanks for taking us with you!
The ending gets me every time. So beautiful and cathartic. I hope you get to watch the Dragon Shorts, which is a small continuation of a few storylines and bits.
o7 It's been fun watching this with you. I'm glad it's been a gateway into DBZ for you. The OG still stands as one of my favorite anime of all time, and it's a special experience watching TFS again alongside you. I hope you have fun with the OG series, too. Take care!
The Owned counter big is even MORE impressive than you first think: Androids 17&18 were built SPECIFICALLY with an infinite power generator in them (which is why they don’t have those red gems on their hands like Gero and Android 19, because they don’t NEED to absorb energy from external sources. Which all means that KRILLIN managed to exhaust an Android with UNLIMITED power…by boinking her!!!
