This is a review of LEGO Monkie Kid set 80049 Dragon of the East Palace! This set officially releases on June 1st, 2023, and contains 8 minifigures: The Dragon of the East, Monkie Kid, Monkey King, Turtle Minister, 2 Shrimp Soldiers, and 2 Crab Generals.

Inspire kids aged 10 and up and their families with this buildable play-and-display LEGO® Monkie Kid™ Dragon of the East Palace (80049) set. Packed with details from the iconic Monkey King legend, this model is an underwater fantasy world with an opening front that slides to reveal the palace interior and multiple rooms. There are also lots of play starters, including the Monkey King’s Golden Staff, rotating dragon and more.
Build a palace
The set includes 8 action minifigures, including Monkie Kid in scuba gear, Monkey King, Dragon of the East, Turtle Minister, 2 Shrimp Soldiers and 2 Crab Generals. Kids can also enjoy an easy and intuitive building adventure with the LEGO Builder app, which lets them zoom in and rotate models in 3D, track their progress and save sets while they build.

It could've also have been a Merlopia city set, but instead with blue and black, so if you're making a Ninjago Seabound season stop motion, this is probably the best set to get for that

4:52 Dragon of the East Palace 6:35 Curvy Water Gazebo, yes that's a Chinese Chess. 7:00 A direct translate to "The Golden Tip Staff As Wishes" - It was a magical pillar which used to stabilize the ocean, and Monkey King "borrowed" it (well not in a nice way), he can transform it into any form he want, hence "As Wishes", that's why the minifig scale staff is revealed after the big one removed, meaning he scale it down so he can hold it in his hand. 11:26 Crystal Palace, but more like a "Crystal Hall", yes it's the throne room. 12:40 Magical Weapon Room - Monkey King went to the palace to borrow a weapon, he was not satisfied by mostly of it as it's all "too normal", he took the Staff at the end (again not in a nice way). 13:23 East 13:34 That's the Dragon of the East Ocean's brothers, and yes they are Dragon of the West Ocean, South Ocean and North Ocean. 14:36 Treasure Collection Room 15:20 Not sure about that tho, it didn't happend in the original story. For the brick-build dragon, i think LEGO just throw it in since it's a dragon related set.

I’m amazed at how good a lot of the Monkie Kid sets are. I’ve always been a Ninjago person, and now this new theme is creeping up on me with some of the most incredible sets I’ve ever seen.

This set is what a merlopian palace could have looked like. This sets elegant, regal, and beautiful. The size does seem small. In the painting behind the bed the characters look like the ninja The dragon of the east kings outfit is really cool, it could probably be used outside the theme

Sweet review as always and an amazing set. I think I will def go for this one later this year. I really like underwater sets. Ne Zha on a sticker is a fun touch as Ne Zha has a lot of history with this dragon family :D I recommend watching the Ne Zha movie from 2019, it's super good and features our dragon of the east and his son.

Those Shrimp and Crab Generals looks absolutely insane! When I first saw these, my initial reaction was like “what the…?!?!” and the just laughing how ridiculous these are (in a good way)!

The chinese characters in the sticker is 'East ocean dragon palace". The staff is half because it was a pin to stable the ocean. monkey king visited east dragon to request for a weapon, and he choose the 'pin' as his weapon. uprooting the staff causes the ocean to be unstable. that's why when monkey king visited east dragon in the cartoon, the east dragon is unhappy to see him.

There are many references to the Chinese classic "Journey to the West," and you might lose a lot of fun due to lack of knowledge related to the novel.

Hey, mind-- i think it'd be really cool if you made a video discussing the evolution of LEGO's asian architecture building techniques, and how they've evolved from the Castle Ninja sub-theme to Monkie Kid, and gotten better at building more authentic asian-inspired buildings. I think they've gotten much better with it, in my opinion: leaning far away from the stereotypical Oriental elements. Just asking, as a fan. A lot of LEGO fans don't know about the many cultural references that inspire a lot of lego sets. Example: The Oni in Ninjago? Based on actual japanese folklore creatures called "Oni", they look way different from the tv show, though. Great video, btw. 🤙🗿 Keep rocking!

It’s such a Caucasian thing to do to compare anything Asian together. Stop bringing up Ninjago when talking about Monkey Kid.. Ninjago is Japanese and Monkey is Chinese… it just sounds so ignorant and ridiculous. But I don’t expect more.

Ninjago is barely japanese, while Monkie kid is heavily based on the Chinese story Its more that this is a ninjago channel so I guess most viewers would link anything to ninjago
