Not only was it originally an Ultima knockoff but it proved RPGs could sell in Japan. Without it, Final Fantasy wouldn't have been greenlit and Shin Megami Tensei probably wouldn't exist as we know it. In other words, one inspired knock off gave us the Japanese-style RPG which inspired Western-style RPGs. It's pretty funny and cool how it happened. (If you don't know the Ultima franchise, it's the grandfather of video/computer RPGs pioneering the technology and techniques as well as tropes used in later RPGs. Itself was inspired by Richard Garriott's odd D&D campaigns with his friends. (Final Fantasy was inspired by D&D and was a knockoff similar to how Dragon Quest was an Ultima knockoff. 😅) So, yeah, now you know if you didn't before. Ultima, Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest are the holy trinity, the parents and grandparents of computer RPGs. Also, shout out to another Blue Dragon fan! ❤ That game is underrated. Never liked Dragon Quest myself but, like I said/implied, I have mad respect for it.

Blue Dragon is not a Dragon Quest game

I played the original Dragon Warrior (Quest) games 1 through 4 with my dad growing up in the 80's and 90's. I was heart broken when Enix at the time decided to scrap the release of part five stateside due to lack of interest and sales. I still remember seeing that article in Nintendo Power. It wasn't until the massive launch that Square did for FFVII, did JRPGs make a prominent return again to the U.S. I remember having to wait for the re-release of five and six, and emulation to play them. My dad and I went back and played five and six. I still think two was probably the hardest one of the original four. We still beat it plenty of times but the first time we had Hargon and Malroth back to back, it was unexpected. We managed to beat them though, without dying and having to do it all over. Should've expected it though after the back to back in part one. Haha! Memories.

It isn't but Toriyama actually helped make that Blue Dragon game which in turn actually became a 1 season Anime itself.

DQ8 did get remastered on the 3DS.

BG 3 was a great WRPG last year still worth playing but this year belongs to Japan

DQ11S is one of the best RPGs I've ever played. Not as polished as HD2D but you can choose to play in 2D or 3D.

Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest is def the starting and building blocks that started a LOT of RPG fans towards the genre. Square Enix knew how to makes fans out of all of us but they are the Digital gods so that is expected from a great company.

Imagine I still have to play all three for the first time, and I was waiting for exactly these remakes

Ah man I hate the exclusively, I have been the biggest ff7 fan for my whole life since I played it in like 1999-2000 in grade four, I’ve been ranting and raving about that game to people ever since then, and I haven’t gotten to play the remakes because I don’t have a PlayStation I have an Xbox S and switch. I have had to force myself not to look anything up about those remakes because I want to one day play them. But oh well, I have gotten to play some great other games like dragon quest games for instance. 11 was one of my favorite rpgs ever, and I can’t wait to play this dq 3 remake, I’ve played every dragon quest except 2,3 and 4. So excited to play it for the first time in this version ! Sorry for the long comment

@@CenturianEagle dq3 and 4 are in my top 3 for the series, followed closely by 11 at number 4. Definitely recommend them.

I’ll definitely play 3 when it comes out and yeah I’ll need to find a way to play 4 I suppose a ds emulator will do it

@@CenturianEagle my order of best to worst is 5, 4, 3, 11, 8, 7, 6, 9, 1, 2. Even 2 is good, just my least favorite.

More like 4-6 with this treatment. 7&8 already have 3DS remakes/remasters. Better to just get HD versions of those for home consoles and remake 9 from scratch.
