Today, we are going to take a closer look at the cut content that never made it into the final release of Dragon's Dogma. Showcasing some of the early vocation, character and monster concept art. Discord - / discord
Hopefully Dragon's Dogma 2 won't be overshadowed by a Skyrim level threat once again, and get the budget to make the sequel they intended. I don't know how they're going to market it to a broader audience but I hope they release a lot of trailers focusing on the combat. I'm also glad that Capcom is paying more attention towards global releases nowadays.
@@edd5554 won't they just play that game instead then? if it's another Skyrim we're speaking of, that's easily like 100 hours of content without rushing. On the contrary, Dragon's Dogma 1 was just a few hours long at best, and an hour if only you do main quests (personal experience with little preparation on speedrun mode).
There is one destructable structure in dragons dogma dark arisen that I have discovered. In the water gods temple, you can knock down the columns in the cyclops room at the end using the combust spell. When I discovered this, I knocked them all down just to see if the ceiling would cave in, but sadly it did not.. :(
I had the same thought with the Daimon fight because I did so little damage that I convinced myself facing him head-on isn't the way to go and there was some hidden mechanism in the area.
@@HelloFellowMellowMarshmallow Its not that you are doing so little damage, its that these bosses have huge health pools, it only looks like you are doing no damage. You just need better gears and figure out what they are weak against.
Daimon is weak to high dealing magic or high dealing blunt damage. Conquers Periapts combo’d with Blast arrows on a good dragon forged bow will kill him in both forms.
There’s a few breakable walls in the game. Smugglers pass has one. Only way I’ve broken it was with a specific warrior skill that I can’t remember the name of at the moment. Idk if there’s other ways to break them.
1:33 looks like a Proto-Daimon, it's even called "Daemon". Everything cut out in the final game can still make its way into DD2! It's crazy to think how MASSIVE and genre defining this game would've been if all the planned content were in it. Like a Breath of the Wild for open world action RPGs.
I've just this last week started playing dragons dogma and I've heard and seen the unfinished nature of it... and I have to say I'm mostly pleased with what they did manage to complete and I hope and pray that they are fully able to do with 2 what they wanted to do with 1 the gameplay is very cool and interesting and I also hope they can create a much larger world filled with more creatures and towns (only having a town and a city so far that I've seen makes the world feel really barren) all in all I'm stoked to wait for dragons dogma 2 and am willing to wait for them to fully complete and give it everything they are intended it to be
Gives me a lot of hope for DD2, I feel like there's a lot of ideas that were either half-finished or at the very least have the concept and mechanics worked out. That should streamline development a lot.
1 attack 1 charge attack and 1 combo with weapons and most combos look the same in botw the combat is so ass like it’s a good game but the combat is ass and mfs overrate the fuck out of it it’s not that’s good
Uncut Dragon's Dogma is the perfect D&D videogame we never got. I am so frickin excited for the sequel because the fact we never got it is about to change !!
I don't think that's gonna happen. DD2 will most likely be in line with DD1, but more expanded upon. We will never see the game that would hsve been uncut dragons dogma.
@@cillianthestupendous6093 I mean, will it really though ? The character creator clearly hinted at least the core TTRPG races but weren't properly established in the lore because of lack of resources. We'll definitely won't get everything from the cut content but I'd wager, ideas like the races or the many monsters we've never seen are very much alive.
@@tsf_skeith6614 especially in regards to the races, i think it won't be expanded. That would be hard to justify working within the lore of DD1, if there were more races living in gransys, why haven't we seen them? If the second game takes place in a new country, i guess that could be worked around, even if that would imply gransys is an ethno-state
@@cillianthestupendous6093 I think Gransys being an ethno-state isn't outlandish granted DD1 is still a very grounded game with very great and for the most part historically accurate structures and equipment. The lore of DD1 is very bare-bones so it leaves a lot for the write-up. That said, I'm just glad we're getting the second game. Even if it won't be the tabletop inspired action RPG we never got, DD1 is still one of the coolest titles of all time for me.
@@cillianthestupendous6093 it could very easily take place in a different timeline. As the plot of DD1 is all about a never ending loop, it’s impossible from a writing perspective to keep everything within the lore while expanding the story we we’re presented with. It would make more sense to do a different timeline/universe final fantasy style. It would allow them to add things they originally wanted while also making it so they can set this new game in it’s own never ending time loop.
Yeah, I heard that over half of the content they had planned didn't make the final cut, which just means that they should have a good headstart for Dragon's Dogma 2. SO HYPED!!!!!
I really wish to see what Dragon’s Dogma with 100% of its contents would look like. Like having different races, more vocations and colossal bosses sound sick af!
I love the idea of scrolls with physics in more powerful magic spells. That would really be another big step in selling the idea that you're a sorcerer of ancient power. And I'm a bit biased here but a monk class would be awesome just because I love the idea of bare knuckle beatdowns when your allies are armed with swords and bows. I really hope both of those get implemented in the sequel. Also a greater focus on the lore of the world too. I really hope we get more to learn about than just being talked at by the NPCs.
What the actual hell. I was just thinking this week how a motion-based spell-casting would have been dope cause the one we got was pretty straightforward. I had almost the exact same idea
As a small side note, I thought it would be really immersive if you needed to memorize motion patterns for each spell, like an actual magic-user memorizing spell incantations.
@@heavenlysteel8337 The issue is that movement detection can be a bit wonky and with too many spells could prove too frustrating (by casting something you don't want). Player would resort only to "easy" or consistent spells. The idea in DDOnline is really good. A mechanic that could be set up to avoid the fact that the player can just do thoughtless motions for good results is to simply add a risk/reward system. Instead of being rewarded by just hitting the green points, you have to avoid the red ones too. Otherwise, you weaken your spell. So in tense situations, you have to choose between doing your spell properly or rushing it to get the effect quickly.
I think the exciment would wear off after a while, then people would start to complain and sorcery would end up becoming either OP or underused. If the "perfect" spell caused too little damage, it would mean that a ranger would outDPS it. If it dealt a ton, people would just create macros on their keyboards and mouses, so you would see them chain using it.
It's mental how much was cut from the final product, but considering some of the ideas they had it's perfectly understandable. Considering how the original already made the PS3 and Xbox 360 shit themselves, I doubt this stuff would've even been possible with the budget and tech at the time. I hope they can bring back more ideas for the sequel, but personally I'd prefer more vocation and race variety than giant bosses that would probably be a pain to fight due to the camera XD
Nah it was definitely doable Considering that the ps2 manage to do it with shadow of the colossus I think the problem was the budget itself Hideaki itsuno actually talked about this back in 2013 at a GDC panel saying "thered no way to create this game within the budet" We only got 30% of the content of what was planned for the whole game
Big bosses are fine by me, just as long as they aren't the size of those imprisoned goreclops's. You need to be able to read the enemy to do melee- but that's hard to *do* when all you can see are his feet. Well, we got to see a sphynx, so that's new at least. I'm hoping for a lot more enemy variety. More than new vocations- I want a bigger library of enemies in general. And I'd love it if we got a codex or bestiary that gives us info on enemies we've fought before. My wishlist would basically be, in order of priority, More enemy variety, more vocations, more RPG elements and story, more races, more map. But honestly, I'll probably take what I can get. Dragons Dogma is very good as is.
Weirdly enough something I really want to see added into a sequel is gesturing in game. I want to be able to emote in situations even if the npcs dont react, but it'd be cool if they did.
Imagine a bigger world with different races, new unique monsters, more interactive terrain, being able to dupe 1 thing multiple times at the black cat, new vocations (esp for pawns), and CO-OP or multiplayer compatible, but it also takes place in one of the neighboring kingdom!
Being a different race has to have a perk though. For example Skyrim had different races, but the power once per day ruined the point of even picking a different race. For example let’s say they allow you to pick a werewolf in dragons dogma two. Transforming into a werewolf should give you access to knew kinds of attacks and a damage boost. A elf for example would have a much higher magic state, and would use less stamina when using magic than any other race. The elf race could also have a unique ability of not requiring a staff to use magic since elves are usually shown as magical to begin with.
I mean too be fair there were different races in the world wryrms, Humans, Goblins and Saurians but you could only play as a maimed human. Ghosts are just other maimed humans and I don't count beings like cyclopses though since they seem no more mentally sophisticated than a cow.
@@robertrainford6754 Also should be balanced and have different drawbacks as the height-weight did in the base game. Perhaps elf should have maluses to strength or a beast character fewer resistances to certain status effects because of more sensitive noses / ears?
@@noway8259 another ability would be might and have the ability were that character can pick up heavy objects, and hurl them like a softball doing massive damage. What ever they give I think the ability should mesh well with a variety of classes. I don’t like world of Warcraft or Skyrim race option, because being a different race doesn’t effect gameplay.
@@robertrainford6754 Well it does but only in limited situations, being an argonian and being able to breathe underwater indeed does affect gameplay. On that note it would be cool to see some more technologically advanced saurians, having a character who can swim like a torpedo or spider climb up walls while having to guard your back would be amazing.
Hope we'll finally get a chance to go to the Moon. For some reason it always seemed like such an awesome combat to me, most likely because of how ground the rest of the game feels.
1:36 Maybe the Bluemoon Tower had another arena where we could face him, but until then we could only see one figure underwater. he seems to have no wings, which could mean we could face him on land And damn, there's so much left out that I'm curious what ideas they're going to reuse in DD2
Slow down there, Rift. There's more scrapped things than you expect in the game, also I'm already in the possession of making a video about cut content available on the game's data.
It's really cool to see some things like the black-haired lady and the beastfolk actually being showcased in the DD2 trailers. Gives me faith that a lot more of the concept art from the first one will be showing up in the actual game.
The Lion-Man is taken straight from Red Earth, it would have been so cool to have beastmen and different races with different stats. I really hope that they don't limit DD2's depth to cater to the most casual audience, and instead go all in on all the crazy things that they couldn't do back then
Excellent video! I still play DD:DA a couple of times a week. There isn't any other game I've played for this many years, and I can honestly still enjoy it. In fact, I just killed the Cockatrice that is rampaging in Gran Soren's "Fields", and I always thought it a peculiar quest. It feels very unfinished. There are these blockades set up aorund the fields, with flashing circles for markers, but you can't interact with them, for as far as I know. They look like soldiers are supposed to be stationed there or something. The soldiers in the field tend to die in the attack before you can kill the beast. You can revive them all using Wakestones if you want to, but then they'll just get up and run away. There's no point in doing it, really. I'm not sure if those soldiers include the same three men who found the Cockatrice's 'dead' body, outside of Gran Soren, prior to this quest. When the Cockatrice is about to die, you hear what sounds like the Elysion's voice. He laughs and utters a line, but he's nowhere to be seen. I think the basic idea here is great. A dead monster is brought into the city as a trophy for the Duke, which makes sense, since that's what Mercedes does with the head of the Hydra. But now the creature's a kind of Trojan Horse and it starts to wreak havoc in the Craftsman's Quarter. I just think it's executed terribly. They could've made this fight more significant, perhaps by having the Elysion actually showing up; summoning Skeleton Mages and Sorcerers, or maybe have Harpies joining in. They even could've included all the secret Salvation members that were 'hiding' in the City. A big chaotic battle in the crops field, giving the Duke more of an incentive for ordering you to go and eliminate the Elysion and Salvation. So much potential there, but all we get is this kind of rushed quest that is too easy and lacks impact. The same can be said for many other quests, situations and areas. You can just notice that they were probably planning to expand on the whole North-Eastern corner of the map; the long road to the Bluemoon Tower, where groups of bandits and smugglers reside. It looks like there was supposed to be a lot more to it than what ends up in the final game. I also think there should've been some kind of subterranean Saurian kingdom of sorts; possibly underneath the Vestad Hills, with the Nightcall Crevasse serving as an entry. And perhaps there could've been an old harbor with an abandoned fisherman's village near to Aernst Castle; taken over by Goblins. Now there's quite a significant pack of Goblins just hanging out on the beach, and there's no quest related to them. You can just avoid that whole area or dispatch them all, and it doesn't impact anything. Gransys is clearly in crisis. The majority of castles and cities are mere ruins. Bandits and monsters are everywhere. The whole world feels like it's close to annihilation, especially with the threat of the Dragon, and as cool as that atmosphere is; there's never a real resolve to this. When the Dragon is killed, darkness descends, and things get even worse, but I would've liked to see an actual purging and a final victory, that rectifies and remedies this apocalyptic turn of events. But that doesn't happen. Instead, you collect 20 Wakestones, become a Seneschal, and you start the game over. I think this cyclical play is the reason why the game lends itself so well to continuous repitition, but it does lack a satisfying end-result. Still, with all of this cut content and my many pet peeves; DD:DA manages to captivate and stand out in its genre. I truly find it perplexing why they never produced a fitting sequel. I just hope that when/if they do come out with a Dragon's Dogma 2, it's going to be the monumental game that they originally envisioned.
0:40 Donovan in the back! Dogma was light years ahead of its time. Perhaps it might have been better if they had released it as a Warhammeresque board game format. It would have been a hit!
yes, I knew about. they used this mechanic on the first boss fight against the hydra, the camp could be more or less destroyed during that fight. but it would be hard to integrate it into the story if grand sorens walls would have cracked during some fight. also it would take ages to repaire a massive wall. an archmage in the castle who don't like fighting and doesnt know any combat spell could repair them using magic, or one who has been cursed that cannot use any spell who bring harm and a great lore to it. that way they could add this feature. still a problem if they can destroy massive walls but no mountains or cliffs, after 100 hours of gameplay we have a battlefield. this also may ruin story lines and quests. they should more work with the comunity to catch new ideas and refine them. other then that, I think we have a good chance that they use old concept art, refine it, and even add more. so far I know they had to take them out for some reason, even they didn't want to.
Cool that you have all these concepts to share with us. So far I only knew that the producer planned to make the game like 2 times bigger or even more. Also I don't think that the map is THAT small, especially with the Everfall and the DLC. I remember feeling surprised quite a lot playing through it first time how many enemy types there were, so it's great to see that they already planned more for DD1. And as many other adherers of the game, I hope they get to realize everything this time. Also I wonder if they will tell the story again from the start since I think that they would want a lot more new people to explore DD2, so somehow they have to find a middleground to not get repetitive for ppl that know DD1.
Well, looks like they got to capitalise on >some< of their vocation ideas. The spear and unarmed classes scream DDO’s Spirit Lancer and Alchemist to me.
You made this Vid, but unbeknownst to you at the time? They would just release a trailer for DD2 just 8 months later. You must feel very Proud of your video and I would be happy to know that.
Yeah I always thought it was supposed to be bigger, when I was exploring around the area of the Blue Moon Tower. Hopefully they add this stuff in 2, I know they did some of it for the online game.
I would love if some of those if not all made their appearance in dd 2 like god damn imagine what they can do with some of those considering the more polished climbing mechaniscs and combat
@@The_Rift BEHIND CHURCH IN 1ST VILLAGE , THERE IS DOOR WHO SHOULD LEAD TO WITCHWOOD. IT WAS CUT. IN CHURCH ABBEY ON CAPITAL LAND, U CAN USE MOD FOR DOUBLE JUMP TO CLIMB HIGHER U CAN SEE BELL TO RING . IT WAS ALSO CUT FROM MAIN GAME.
@@PIP...33 I know abbey secrete hole above in roof. You can climb and see that bell but I did not knew bout witchwood now when u said it makes sense cause witchwood is direct on the left from main gate of the village , and church is also on that side so possible that door is reason why they are locked everythime it wasnt just texture it was shortcut . Another thing I noticed path for bluemoon tower and that wind section is empty. My theory is that this supposed to be part of land connected for birds and griffons - in other words THEIR LAND where they are on their own court advantage so that wind could makes battle difficult but it is possible changed in last time and Griffon was sent to Blue Moon tower to save some memory and size of game. My friend also told me that 1 of DLC was on sea. I heard many times that but no one confirmed.

I always wonder what those stones who's standing there half in water supposed to mean. I just tho its dragon's leftovers after attack possible some tower he destroyed. But now makes sense. We never saw Brine and ppl always talk bout him. That could be it I was hear bout those DLC rumors for years. But now that U have mention it could be even true.
I definitely hope they add a fist weapon centered class in Dragons Dogma 2 I love fist weapons in video games, because there is nothing more awesome than being able to beat the shit outta giant monsters with your (essentially) bare hands
seeing these concepts that didnt make it into the first game bum me out and always have me wondering what the first game could have been. at the same time though it makes me super excited for the sequel because i imagine they plan on using these bits that didnt make it for a sequel i would love to see the "complete" dragon's dogma with all of the original planned ideas that couldnt make it due to time restraints or budget. mix up the story somewhat or just give us a fresh start with a new story and i think it would be amazing combining it with all of these ideas that couldnt make the cut in the first game. i imagine their budget and deadline is much better with the sequel than it was with the first one
Can you imagine having a lion pawn with the ability to go feral, discarding their weapons, drawing their claws and ripping up goblins and shit? Or perhaps a griffon or bird pawn who could use their wings to get to higher areas or dropping down with large swords and shit
Don't forget that the majority of the maps and monsters from Bitterblack Isle were actually part of the 'moon' portion or other parts of the original idea...
The amount of ideas you can extract from other games can really show the potential for the future of DD. I hope these all find their way in for the second game; DMC Red Earth Monster Hunter Onimusha Even Street Fighter if they go with a martial arts class (which I would def play first) These ideas and inspirations come to mind immediately.
Something that always bugged me was how we rarely ever see unused content within the data of the game. Did someone ever try datamining it ? I mean, games like dark souls revealed over the years that many stuff (enemies, armors, weapons) were cut from the final release but remained in the code. Or maybe I'm not informed enough.
I love the idea of a spearman as a playable class because in general I love polearms and I think they are not well represented in video games... above all I hope it's not like the insect glaive from mh or the spirit lance from ddo, polearms are all about quick strikes at a good distance and with more than decent accuracy (depending on how big it is, it can be slower or less accurate but in general) and launching with a weapon that is even smaller than the other weapons of the same game, turning it around you, full berzerker, it is not too much the spirit of polearms, and in fact it is more similar to one of the Zweihander techniques
I'm confused; 8 months ago we had the announcement II was coming...why is that not referenced in the video? Also, time for a update vid, because looks strongly like Dogma 2 is Dogma 1 but with all the stuff that was supposed to be in 1 added.
Man I really wish I hadn't found out about that cut unarmed/fist class... cuz now I'm just super expecting it to be in DD2 and if it ain't I'm gonna be very bitter and sad. Pugilist classes are my favorite in every game ever even including Skyrim, Dark Souls, and Dauntless 😭Me want punchy punch
Original DD feels very short after you realize you can finish the main quest line in under 20mins without using glitches (using some Ng+ resources though)
