She's actually Daphne's mother, and Dirk's mother in law, (Since Daphne and Dirk are married in this game when they had all those adorable kids, that takes place 10 years after the events of the first "Dragon's Lair" game) who's mad at Dirk (and for whatever reason it seems like she blames him for her kidnapping) and wants to straight up kill him since Daphne got kidnapped and basically says to find her or Dirk will be dead meat during the cutscenes showing her trying to attack Dirk. XD (But yeah, she shouldn't blame and be mad and go all out to attack Dirk for her kidnapping, (but yeah, I don't blame her taking her anger out on Dirk since he's the only one that can rescue her, and she wants him to find her, and for her to stop getting kidnapped), but she should blame and be really mad at Mordecc since he kidnapped her in the first place, straight up FORCED Daphne to marry him, and turned her into this hideous and ugly monster. XD
@@jag6262 Sorry for the late comment. The only excuse I've got is that they're too busy focusing on what button they need to press. This was their problem in the first game too, they couldn't pay attention to the action going on because they're too busy focusing on keeping the game going. I don't blame them
This is one of those movies (let's be honest it's an incredible short-film masked as a game) that makes me desperately miss 2D hand-drawn animated movies.
I'm becoming a yoga instructor only for the purpose of teaching the downward dog, then telling them to now try updog. When they ask what is updog, I will immediately retire.
Can we get more 2d animation these days? I get 3d is easier so thats what everyone defaults to but seriously 2d is so much more expressive and subject to art styles, its beautiful
Check out anime. Newer ones use almost exclusively 2D animation done trough computer graphic. They are amazingly fluid and detailed (when they don't cut corners). Makes me wonder how drop-dead gorgeous anime would look if each episode had the same budget of western cartoons of today.
Sadly, these days people constantly make the stupid assumption that traditional 2d animation "Is Dead", and treat animation as if it were a form of Technology instead of a medium of Art.
@@nickoftime602 I think it's less that 2D animation is "too expensive", and more that major entertainment companies these days (namely the ones here in America) are too cheap.
@@nickoftime602 That's blatantly incorrect. CGI animation is much more expensive than hand drawn animation if done with high quality and at worst only matches the price(just compare the budgets of CGI animated movies to hand drawn animation). The issue is actually that audiences just don't care about 2D animation on a global scale and so outside of certain localities that do like it(Japan, and even then Japan gets by with backbreaking labor hours that wouldn't fly in America) it's nowhere near as profitable. If people on a global scale actually watched 2D animation then it'd make a comeback, but they don't.
You know what the worst part is? I think one of the treasures is INSIDE ONE OF THE CAT'S MOUTHS as it's SPITTING FIRE. So not only would your reflexes tell you to go the other way instead of getting the treasure, but it's actually virtually impossible to see it light up against the flames.
I remember finding that one on complete accident where I panicked and pressed towards the cat. Imagine my surprise that I found a key piece to beat the game.
What, would that just be two lines about going on an epic quest, followed by them getting distracted and singing about how hot Daphne is for the remaining 2 minutes of the song? ... I actually kinda want that, now that I think about it.
Dan you did a great job. You flew through those long scenarios so quickly on a blind playthrough. If either of you knew to watch for the items in the first place im certain you could've aced the game within the half hour. Thanks for playing these games.
I was too busy wondering when he was gonna come down. When was he going to land? Maybe he should have stayed on the farm, and should have listen to his old man.
In one sense yes, because you're constantly chasing down Daphne and the Wizard, but on the other hand the levels in the first one were more cohesive since they were all set in the same evil tower.
You can turn off the random scenes in the first one and I think it plays out like normal, if you rewatch Dan even goes over the option and leaves it on random.
I like the first one better because there was something different everytime. Kept things fresh but it needed work. I like the frequent checkpoints in 2.
" I love these two, together" Danny, if you and Ashley are still strong by Halloween, please go as Dirk and Daphne. Hell, just cosplay them right now. Please.
Thank you for not being a sarcastic jerk about this! Everyone else is face palming when even _I_ can barely hear what that Viking lady is saying and Arin and Dan BOTH said they couldn't hear anything going on in the game. They were both too focused on the actual game play, not on the quiet and difficult to understand dialogue.
Arin never listens to games..like ever like he has numerous occasions of screaming “idk how am I supposed to know to do that this game sucks” like immediately after the game tells him exactly what to do and where to go
Hell hath no fury like a mama bear! Good for her but I think her anger is misdirected 😅 my mom is quite the petite lady but I fear the damage she'd cause if someone was dilly-dallying getting me away from a forced marriage
Hahaha i mean at this point, it doesnt even phase me in the recent twilight princess it was like "the sword is INSIDE THE HOUSE" literally in bold colored font & literally .2 seconds later.. Arin: Okay so.. does he have the sword? where is it? wtf? and spends like 10 minutes sneaking around getting busted by the guy before going over to the house haha its in every series
I'm pretty sure one of the items in the Beethoven stage was in the cat's fire breath too, glowing the same as the fire, if I remember correctly. That's an extremely cruel trick to hide it in something that looks exactly the same, I definitely don't blame them for passing on the items and just watching it.
@@cupriferouscatalyst3708 And there was so much shit going on how could Dan catch them all? Dude could barely look up to even catch the wonderful animations.
Jabberwocky is a nonsense poem. The Jabberwock isn't supposed to look like anything. Both the Tim Burton movie and Dragon's Lair 2 are using the illustrations to base the creature's appearance when it has no real in-story description.
Jabberwocky makes total sense. A dad warns his son about a monster, the son kills the monster, and then the dad is happy. It's just riddled with made-up words.
TWAS BRILLIG AND THE SLITHY TOVES, DID GYRE AND GIMBLE IN THE WABE, ALL MIMSY WERE THE BOROGROVES, AND THE MOME RATHS, OUTGRABE. "BEWARE THE JABBERWOCK, MY SON! THE JAWS THAT BITE, THE CLAWS THAT CATCH! BEWARE THE JUBJUB BIRD, AND SHUN THE FRUMIOUS BANDERSNATCH!" Still one of my favorites, after all these years.
It's just a jump to the left And then a step to the right With your hands on your hips You bring your knees in tight But it's the pelvic thrust That really drives you insane Let's do the Time Warp again!!!!!!
"You let my daughter get kidnapped" "I raised that princess" all the evidence this woman shouted to prove she's daphne's mom, and the grumps miss every word
I don't like 'Attract' or 'Eye-catch' as the name since it doesn't describe it's biggest function. If you leave one image on a CRT monitor for too long, you get screen burn-in where that image (usually the logo) permanently burned into the screen and you will see the shadow of the image on top when you use the screen. The 'attract mode' is more accurately the arcade version of a 'screen-saver'
@@Gooong While that's true, I think the name is fitting because it was still designed for that function. They could have easily made a boring screensaver or something less appealing, but if you can advertise the game AND save the screen, why not?
31:10 for reference - Assuming this is what you were talking about, Arin was saying basically "This just transported him in space, not time - the ancient Egyptians are already ancient, so there was no time travel involved".
@@Reisen_Inaba I don't say this to shit on arin's observations but just cuz I feel like it: There were still periods of what we call ancient egyptian history in which the ancient egyptians were living around what was still, even to them, 'ancient egyptian' architecture... I mean, it obviously wasn't quite like this, but still just an interesting thought.
Dan: *literally stressing out with everything that's happening on the screen* The game: *Beethoven playing a piano in the sky while his cat is chasing a little man jumping on physics defying objects* Arin: look at that water, that water looks amazing
@@Kimshu6 I mean, we wouldn't know if it happened, and in a world with evil wizards AND time machines the idea of Alice in Wonderland having happened isn't that weird, also the garden of eden i guess
One more good one to go* If you just want from the same franchise there is also space ace 2, dragons lair 3d, and I almost forgot dragons lair the legend
To clarify: Disney does not own Alice in Wonderland. The original Alice books (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There) were written in 1865 and 1871 respectively. The books are in the public domain, so anyone can use those characters, or make adaptations of Alice. Disney owns the rights to their VERSIONS of the Alice characters, but they don't own the rights to the books or characters themselves because they are in the public domain. This is just Don Bluths version of the characters.
Yeah, definitely interesting that almost all 2d animation has gone out the window but 2d games still regularly exist even for just the look. You think there would be even more of that in movies considering what you see is like 70% of the movie.
I’m so glad they watched through all the scenes like that! I forget how impressive this animation is during the gameplay, and I really liked Arin and Dan’s commentary 🙌🏻
If you've ever seen All Dogs Go To Heaven, you'll know he just draws evil animals like that. Carface looks just like those cats, and probably just like a lot of other characters, because Don Bluth's style is very consistent.
Disaster Jones Strangely though in An American Tail, Warren T. looks sorta like a rat, even without his rat disguise. The one who actually looked the most like a cat in that movie was Tiger.
Dogs learn their name like humans do. Cats learn their names because you give them food when you call them. Cats release a "virus" that infects the host to make them less afraid, this is normally useful for catching mice but also so humans will keep feeding them. Dogs see humans as cute and cats see humans as stupid kittens that give them food. cATs ARE EVIL
@@matthewmiller7207 Well that is because cats represent bigots, racists and other corrupt organizations in the film and are drawn evil looking. Tiger represents someone who was told to hate others because he was born into it, but does so only to fit in.
This video genuinely makes me want them to start a channel called "Movie Grumps" where they give commentary over great (usually animated) movies. Imagine MST3K but good movies and with Arin and Dan commentating.
It's really cool, but everything happens so fast you can't really appreciate it. Kinda wished they slowed down a bit and only went full hectic during big moments. Also I'd smash that Eve like a meteor would earth.
Well a, I couldn't hear shit either. B, I know when someone kidnaps my daughter, the first thing I do is murder the only person who can save her. So either way it's illogical
I can almost guarantee that some of the dirk deaths are don bluths kinks. vore, giantess fetish, getting squeezed or squashed, etc. Ever seen bartok the magnificent? if not, look up the "real ludmilla" song. thats 100% stealth porn.
I'm looking at this animation, and I'm getting more frustrated. Nobody makes stuff like this anymore, and they never will again! That's the lamest thing ever!
