Fun fact: Akira Toriyama hated this movie so much, he decided to revive the series with 2 new animated movies that helped kick off "Dragon Ball Super". And the rest is history. Edit: Wow, I certainly did not expect to see this many comments here! It's been interesting to read everyone's opinions and I can see where we're all coming from. At the end of the day, no matter what we say about GT or Super or even Z, it goes to show just how passionate we all are about the Dragon Ball franchise in general and despite all that's happened, we are still dedicated fans of this beloved piece of pop culture and we shall see this through to the very end :)
I heard otherwise. I heard that they were making a dragon ball movie regardless and Akira Toriyiama no involvement early on, but joined in during production to avoid another dragon ball evolution. Regardless if I'm missing something or got facts twisted we got another dragon ball series and line of movies.

As awful as this movie is, when Akira Toriyama sadly passed away recently a lot of the cast came out and apologized for making the movie Rest in Peace to Akira Toriyama your an absolute legend
Sad thing about this movie is that Justin Chatwin did a lot of research on Dragonball, reading all of the manga and watching so much of the anime at the time, even going so far as to read its inspiration “Journey to the West” only for all of it to be wasted on a movie like this.
And so far, the only good Anime movie adaptation Hollywood has done is Alita Battle Angel. And seriously, how hard is to make a Dragon Ball film work? Hell, there's been like 2 or 3 anime films that did it. Goku is a young boy living on his own. He meets a girl named Bulma, who is trying to find the dragon balls to wish for some petty wish. As they travel, they encounter Oolong, Yamcha, Puar and Roshi, while having to deal with either Pilaf or the Red Ribbon Armor. There, I wrote a better plot that faithful to the source material.
You skipped the part where Akira Toriyama hated the movie so much that it inspired him to make Super. That's right, he hated Evolution so much that he continued the series to spite it. So some good came out of this disaster.
Fun fact: The actor who played Piccolo in this movie would later on go to voice Zamasu in the English dub of Dragon Ball Super. So...I guess it was redemption from this failed abortion of a movie? EDIT: Wow, this thread took a direction I wasn't expecting to see.

I don’t know if it was my imagination but I was watching a Dragon ball video and then an add for what appeared to be a sequel for Evolution just played. I really hope it was just a bad day dream
I never really hated gt mostly because i saw it as a kid and have much easier standards. I find everything after baby to be ok. Baby was just the black water mist filler arc. Super 16 was just the fusion reborn movie except the villain done the fusion. The shadow dragons was fine as an concept i suppose.
I don't get what's the problem GT got better villains then super. one properly explained transformation and on the other hand super got 5 transformation with no explanation
@@tusharrathore6330 I mean, they explained that Goku ascended to Godhood, achieving God Ki. During the fight with Beerus, he absorbed the god ki into his base body. So when he infused God Ki into the Super Saiyan transformation, you got Super Saiyan Blue. Super Saiyan Evolution was just Vegeta bulking up, like in Z but with SSB instead of SSJ. Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken was possible because of SSB granting better ki control than the normal Super Saiyan. Ultra Instinct Omen becomes accessed as a result of Goku absorbing Universe's 7 Spirit Bomb into his body, pushing him past his limitations. Then, over the entirety of the TOP, Goku keeps breaking through his limitations and fighting in the Ultra Instinct state, training it over time and eventually resulting in its mastered form.
@@heinrichpriest8937 turns out that is not the case, ultra instinct is master roshi's technique and he showed it to Goku when he go up against jrin in the super manga. As for absorbing spirit bomb Goku already did that in super android 13 movie and didn't get ultra instinct there and we still don't know super Sayan rose work or royal blue super Sayan of Vegeta. In the manga tournament of power is only 10 or 15 chapters and we also get to see op Gohan again from cell saga. Gohan defeat that female broly fusion alone (I don't remember her name) Piccolo and Goku even claimed that if Gohan started to use his Sayan power instead of his human power Gohan can easily leave Goku and Vegeta behind in terms of power with few weeks of training. None of that is in the Anime

Super saiyan rose is just zamasu version of blue and is exclusive to him because he's a kai, don't bring a non-cannon movie as evidence that doesn't work Also the guy just explained vegeta's blue evolution, it's literally the super saiyan grade 2 from the cell saga but as a ssj blue Toyotaro fucked manga version of gohan in the tournament, anime gohan was way better developed, also ultimate>ssj that's the whole point, gohan beats kefla while in the anime he tag teams with piccolo and actually shows his development which is abscent from the manga, also cell saga gohan is not a compliment, thats was a one time thing that only worked on that certain occasion and wouldn't work any other time because that's not who gohan is
Evolution is a great time being drunk. And yes, I removed the Dragonball name because it has nothing to do with it. So it's called Evolution in reality.
I remember when this movie came out in 2009, I was so angry. I thought I was going super saiyan; ten years later... that feeling came back after I saw this review.
At least Evolution gave us Super as a result. And you know full well that reviewing this movie means you'll have to look at the Netflix Death Note now.

Well to be fair a lot anime does it anyway, Just look at how many shows have a protagonist with a almost all girl side cast harem. Especially in Isekai shows like Sword art online.
Well even the actor of this Goku made a big apologize about being part of making Dragon Ball Evolution. Moral lesson is: Don't blame the actors, but the staffs.
If Stephen Chow directed and have full control of Dragonball: Evolution, this movie will be a success I think. The studio hired a wrong director for this one.
Or just wish for all the people Piccolo and his minions have killed back to life not just one person. I mean that is exactly what they did in the original show so what’s this movies excuse.

There's also Crying Freeman and Speed Racer! But they have bombed at the box office even if there was pation behin these movies... But Alita Battle Angel his a good movie! (You can even interpret this has a feminist movie even if that rush the story of the manga like the OVA's has done it, and it stay a good movie!)
@@alexandreturcotte6411 honestly Speed Racer was horrible, too many bad CGI in scenes that it didn't need to be used in, and the stupid little brother was just the worst. Ghost In THe Shell may have been "messy" at least it wasn't super annoying and was an interesting take just like basically every different series/film animated or not is (since we got rise now and another).
Dragon Ball: Evolution would’ve been a lot better without this story. I think it would be somewhat improved if it was about old Goku teaching a new student about whatever power things they have, and focus on the student’s journey before they eventually go Super Saiyan or something and laser a villain to death. It wouldn’t be a GOOD Dragonball story, but it would be a better story
You know a movie adaptation is bad when it makes the original creator of the anime come out of retirement, create 3 new movies and a new saga in dragonball super just to prove that this movie was garbage
