Finally some real wet sailing! There are so many boring condo-maran videos on RU-vid. I'm a lifetime windsurfer and the Dragonfly is now my dream sailing vessel.

This awesome video (thanks to drone technology) shows the superiority of trimarans over monohulls in choppy windy conditions! Beautiful DF 40, sailing in full control in 30 knots true wind! Congratulations Jens ... and Peter!

А если будет сильный шторм, не разломит большими волнами эту конструкцию? Может быть одно корпусная яхта более способна противостоять ударам волн?

Great video! More points of sail please. You showed the most important angle in moderate seas, but it would be nice to see it going on a broad reach in the same winds to clock the speeds. :)

We sailed a Dragonfly 28 at 35 knots of wind in the Adria. My daughter was playing with her Playmobil farm in the Saloon without Problem. The boat behaved very convincing tempting me, a monohull saylor a lot.

This is really cool: some of my favourite sailing footage! I'd love to see a little more: show me how reliably you can tack in these conditions, show me a broad reach (I think you showed the speedometer on a broad reach, but I want to see how the bows handle the waves), gybing, etc, and most importantly: bring along a barista from La Cabra to offer tips on how to brew pourover while doing 12 knots to windward ;)

Beautiful boat Jens "well done"👍 Question from Vancouver BC Canada; Can you do another walk through video showing whare a customer might install "all the bells & whistles" currently available for luxury loadouts..? Example= -24v water maker -24v air conditioning -Extra freezer near the galley (doesn't need to be quite as big as the existing refrigerator wich is excellent already) -Small washer/dryer (50/60htz switching if available) -Solar panel location possibilities -huge upgraded lithium battery banks optional install locations I realize every client is going to have a different idea of "what their personal preferences are" but I'm just curious whare a person might squeeze all that stuff in if they wanted it & what would the performance penalties be for the additional weight..? { -1.5 knots or something..? ) I can imagine with that upgraded 80hp engine & its optional upgraded alternator output in combination with a large robust solar / lithium setup that would negate the need for a generator. Maybe a "sky's the limit" video is in order for all those who think their giving up the extras for lack of space, when really, I can see it is possible with some clever organization.. {yes, goodies are expensive., but we shop with our eyes 👁️)

@H. Kirk I'll admit it's that cockpit that's drawn me in... "Specifically the helm positions" It's just too good..!! I'd have to put down some polar bear planks on the seats on a night watch; {plywood with nails sticking through upwards) so I didn't sit down & fall asleep with my coffee in hand ✋... Lol... Jokes aside though, = Amas are probably good for extra sail & whatnot at the front of each one, couple paddle boards distributed at the rear optional hatches, & lots of room for garbage collection in the middle somewhere right at a hatch location labeled "valuables in green garbage bags" {Other lighter weight items also of course) Not sure if the weight of a generator in there is a good thing = I envisioned a Lithium swap taking the same existing space V birth forward; probably somewhere close to triple the storage capacity if cleverly laid out {certainly over double if taking every existing square inch) = Some great 24v air conditioning technology has come out recently {in the last 12 months) *touted as; "for up to 40' hulls" & seeing as this boat is narrower in volume this might work., (Perhaps..) {heat pump/compressor in the engine bay.?) = Compact washer/dryer modified into the bottom of the wardrobe on the starboard side..? {Yes, I suppose that would take 75% of its lower volume & even then that unit might need to be widened slightly thus taking seating length away, but there is already plenty of length already, might as well widen its mirrored sister unit directly across from it to maintain geometric symmetry in the forward saloon area.. = & For the freezer..? "I like your idea" {Engle Brand "made in Australia" high quality 24v aluminum expedition chest freezer under the seat closest to that multi purpose nav/galley work surface.. we don't know what type of tankage is under there currently & what work arounds might be needed, but if its just room for golf clubs & tennis shoes at the moment then that's the golden solution 👍 = Solar panels locations..? {Yea, I don't know enough about this.. over the helm offering good sun protection as a side effect sounds interesting, but its not exactly "esthetically pleasing" on a gorgeous sports car per-say., Another personal preference right (Albeit practical., provided it didn't act as a sail of sorts on such a light weight craft, might be ok..) Dragonfly 40 looks like a fantastic coastal exploration experience, with the ability to high speed protected anchorage, continentally hop your way along geographically {post "unprecedented times" obviously) A truely unique craft for a middle aged adventuring couple who's kid's have left the nest; (like my own situation, although he's not left yet so I'm thinking we could instead 🤣) It would be a joyous adventure of a lifetime not directly comparable to other "tried & true" traditional vessels, strong emphasis here on digital weather technology systems & fast passages minimizing the exposure risks Truth..? The picture that has been on the refrigerator door at home for the past 4 yrs of my "dream ⛵" has been the Pogo 50.. this is honestly the first time I've really taken a second look at a multihull, its a new development..

Excellent points, but you forgot to include: Cut the banquet sized dining table down by at least half. Make it a dinette. Install a usably sized sink and drainboard Remove that useless starboard sofa, build up waist high cabinetry with hard countertop so there is some food preparation and workbench space, with storage underneath. That would also give you a place to install the water maker, AC, extra freezer and washer dryer, otherwise, not going to happen. (I am not an electrical engineer, but I really, really want to know how all these electrical devices, including lights, winches, stove, electronic navigation and the high energy draining stuff you want to add on are going to be powered.) Increase the water, wastewater and fuel tankage. Install a skeg on the hull to deflect subsurface debris from ripping the Saildrive out of the hull. This is a fantastic sailboat. Guaranteed lots of speed and fun. But it is not built for cruising for more than two people.

Brilliant video Jens. I'm probably echoing other comments but this is the type of video I need to see before deciding to buy. Any boat will look lovely on a sunny day in flat water. It's how they handle when the weather isn't what the forecast said and you're out in the thick of it. Even in this great film the sea wasnt that heavy for the North Sea when a storm passes through but at least I can now see how elegant and composed these vessels are in such conditions. Now you'll need the rest of the models out in heavy seas. No one wants to gey bounced around on purpose but if it happens you can trust this great design, engineering and overall concept. Thanks again.

Big thumbs up... I think many producers don't realize a large amount of perspective buyers WANT to see rough conditions, we want to see big ocean sailing, because we know that things are not always sunshine and glass, especially ocean crossing. we want to know the boat will take care of the crew, we want to know it can be sailed in turbulent conditions shorthanded, we want to know what it's like during those conditions because that helps us to decide if this is the boat we want.

Agree with Pierre of 3 months aga. A long fetch and 3 days of 30kts will produce something prety reasonable in the way of waves. 3 days if easterlies in Algoa Bay (South Africa) with the wind changing to SW 20kts to 25kts can easily produce waves of 5 to 6 metres. Scary in a Jaguar 22" fin keeler. I still love the Dragonfly, but I do wonder how it would perform on a non-stop single handed, non-stop, circumnavigation unassisted from Plymouth and rounding all the southern capes.

intriguing. speed has certainly its advantages. but so does comfort. the cockpit is completely exposed to the elements. for a long voyage in the tropics, pilot will suffer from heat and sun exposure. in the north, suffer from cold and icy spray. ho helm below. seems to have no provision for any sort of t-top. canvas might work, until ripped apart by the first storm. overall a sleek design, maybe too sleek for world cruising.

I said do what he said sail on that lake. He proceeded to mention all the bodies of water he had sailed on then proceeded to tell me he was never so happy to get to a marina in all his life All of the Great Lakes are a challenge in ruff weather but a lake that is on Average 50 feet deep will eat you up and spit you out If you can sail Erie you can sail anywhere I will be taking videos this summer to show some of the conditions we sail in.
