YOU DON'T NEED A DRAIN IN THE SLAB!!! 😲 Use a Concrete saw to cut SLOPING EXPANSION JOINTS toward a drain on the edge of the burnout pad! Keep the lines clean and it will naturally drain off the slab with no drain in the actual slab. 30 years of concrete experience in the Pacific Northwest.👍🇺🇲
@corno
@corno 4 года назад
nostranger2u this seems like a real straight forward solution to their problem - but I wonder if that small gap will tear up tyres during burnouts? (I have no idea and have never done a proper burnout in my life, unfortunately lol)
@DirtIndustry

To my knowledge all large concrete pours need expansion joints cut into them to prevent surface cracking.

@Mr McGoo Prob cause Florida doesn't get as cold
@510Redneck
@510Redneck 4 года назад
@Mr McGoo Yeah it's really common in the colder regions, supporting things with less, or areas known for ground movement but its a 8in thick fiber reinforced pad on well compacted ground in a area that rarely ever gets anything in a way of a frost line - ground swelling-etc so he should be pretty good to go for a bit. I couldn't imagine paying for a 220'x190' slab that is 8" thick.... phew crazy to think about, he's gotta be itching to get that money rolling in so it pays for itself that is for sure.
@510Redneck
@510Redneck 4 года назад
@nostranger2u.... Agreed, they already have expansion joints there so all they need to do is run back through them a bit. Probably plugged up with rubber in a few spots, which is what holes would do anyways if they drilled them (which there shouldn't be any need for as you rightly pointed out). I thought for sure I seen them use a rotary broom attachment before, would only take a couple minutes with one and the standing water would be gone. lol

Try consistently lightly spreading washed sand over the areas where water pools for several months (weekly?). For quicker results at slightly higher cost, use a light scattering of compost or soil instead. Gradually the growth of the grass, plus the activities of earthworms will convert it to normal soil and the level will be effectively and cheaply raised. 1/4 ton should do it over the course of a few months with no other work needed! (Please UPVOTE so Cleetus sees this or pass it on to him - I don't know how!)

Where the water collects and takes a little longer to drain, I suggest, rather than digging out the grass and building up under it, try what the golf courses do around here (Australia) where the weather is about the same as Florida... they layer a small amount of sand, without burying the grass, each month until the levels are brought up to what is desired... This takes a little lime but it is affordable, not difficult and effective... Best of luck I have no idea about fixing the burnout pad...sorry.

@CCDzine

And the beauty of a running grass, like that St Augustine, is that the level can be built up in little time simply by adding thin layers of soil, which the rhizomes will push through. Like how they level the Bermuda grass on putting green by brooming in sand or a sandy loam.

Young man you've done a hell of a job saving this old track and bring it back to life. You're always going to find something that needs to be done. I'm retired now but I spent about 5 years of my life when I was in my 30's as a Grounds Keeper at a Private Club Gold Course, not sure a tracks the same but it was a lot of mowing, working out drainage when issues arose and just the general mowing and upkeep. My point is it's a lot of land to take care of and that track although not as big as a golf course has a lot more things that will always need attention I'm sure. You've got this as I really don't think it's in your DNA to let anything get you down or at least ever go down without giving your best. Which I'd say your best is impressive as all hell Brother... EDITTED TO ADD: You've done one hell of a job with this place young man, we all know you got this. The fact that you only have two small minor problem areas with all you've done in such a short span of time is noting more than miraculous, just amazing...

You can slowly add dirt to the low spots and the grass will grow through it.
@stevet647
@stevet647 4 года назад
I think both drainage areas could be an easy fix with no major work. For the pad you are draining a very large area and may just need a deeper or wider slot to a drain or series in each deeper spot on that edge of the pad. This could be done with the existing expansion cuts in the pad being opened up a little to allow it to drain, you will be pulling rubber out of them for life to drain but no major changes to the pad and you only need a hook to drop in the slot in the pad and pull. You will need to dig a small drain pickup point at the edge of the pad below the ground level with fall direct to your drain and you will need to make some of the current cuts running to the drain from the lowest points wider to say 10mm just for the ones for draining water off the pad into the drain. As for the water pooling area in the grass, why not lift some of the grass at the lowest spot, remove some dirt and bury 2sqm of gravel at that point then dirt and grass it over to be flat and green, you can add a drain pipe at a later date if it is too boggy and still needed. This is where I would start and put money elsewhere in the freedom factory like the bleachers, Freedom Factory Events so more places see what you are doing and reopen or expand what they do to cater for more events at lower cost. Good luck.

What do you mean "we did it ourselves?" Unless you got that pad done for free, you didn't do it yourself. I know 316 helped you out, but did the subcontractor do it for a very steep discount too? As far as I understand, you paid (probably tens of thousands of dollars) to a contractor to bring in a professional concrete company. They brought in an entire fleet of trucks and emptied a factory. You got this pad professionally done start to finish, and they should be held accountable for their work. It was their job to make sure it doesn't dip, and they dun goofed it. Whether it's ripping that area up and doing a repour or paying for the drainage system, they should take accountability and get that done at their expense. The grass is a youbad, yeah, but that's not a huge issue

I agree completely. One of the most important considerations when pouring concrete, especially on this scale, is controlling the water. This is a huge problem, and it should be corrected. They turned the screed and pulled perpendicular to the rest of the pad through that area. Did they not adjust the screed properly to compensate for the pitch on the pad? Looks like they just dug a big trough across the whole thing. It’s really a shame, that thing holds a TON of water!
