Could that old jar be an old snuff jar?
@413MassDigger
@413MassDigger 3 года назад
I thought possibly, I forgot the exact name of it, I had a couple people in the Metal Detecting groups im in say its I almost wanna say a blackening jug? I could be wrong on that, I'll have to get back to ya on that, but its most definitely old pottery of some kind, I meant to go into a pottery/ bottle or jug group and ask, sucks there's no markings on it that I can see, could mean it's really old, or for all I know it could be modern!! I really appreciate your comment bud, thanks for the help, I'll definitely look into that too!! HH-Ray☘️

@@413MassDigger That jug made me think of a old shaving kit. Especially if it was near the shoreline. A little jug to hold the powder and dip the brush into to create a lather. 😇

@@mderen49 awesome man, great guess, and could be!! I had it ID'd on a pottery/ bottle Facebook group, and a majority of people said it was a English stone ware blacking jug, possible ink bottle.. Also a couple said Definitely English stone ware but could be boot polish jug.. So seeing how it didn't seem like they were 100% on it, I guess it could be either, you're idea sounds good too, I'll look into that, thanks for watching and Commenting!! HH-Ray☘️

dude ya gotta stop rubbing them coins! wash em off in some water its giving me anxiety haha
@413MassDigger
@413MassDigger 3 года назад
For one I definitely don't sell my coins, about 99% of them are junk silver, and I won't even talk about the coppers.. Secondly have you ever got coins graded out of the ground? They all come back environmental damage anyway, and arnt worth the price to even get graded, I know what coins have key dates and to be honest, again I don't get coins graded, on top of im barely even rubbing the coin with the slightest pressure, I'm not gonna spray each and every coin I find , only for you guys to criticize me and say I'm taking to long at the hole, and why the hell do you spray coins, they arnt worth anything anyways,, so its dammed if I do, dammed if I don't.. I usually bring spray, or have it in my backpack, these drained lake videos, I haven't had it in my bag as of late, because like I said I get a ear full everytime I break it out,, I appreciate you watching and commenting!! @413MassDigger 3 года назад
Absolutely, thank you for watching! Sometimes I do a wrap up at the end, somtimes I just show the finds after each hole, it all depends!! Usually when I do a wrap up, it makes my video too long and no one really watches long videos, so I notice my numbers drop, so that's why I sort of just put em in at the end of each hole, to speed up the process, thanks for Commenting,, HH-Ray☘️

Cool video... That small "jug" you found reminds me of an old electrical isolator. Check to see if it's threaded inside, when you clean it up. If so, it would've screwed onto a wooden dowel and the necked in part is where the wire would wrap around/tie to...🤔😎✌️

Yep, you're absolutely right, I've had a few people reach out with ID's.. There was a WW2 Shooting range out here along one side of this lake! Funny thing is, my buddy took them all for the most part, but we found lots of these clips with bullets in them, some live, some half live half shot? It's funny you say that bud, I can't agree more!! You should read some of the comments I get under my vids sometimes.. They say stuff like, Why would I fill my holes, it tells other detectorists I been there already.. And others say they leave open holes all the time it doesn't matter.. And it blows my mind how some people can think it's ok to do, regardless where ever you're Detecting I always say to fill in your holes.. I've hunted with people that left open holes myself, and had to tell them hey listen, fill your holes back in, or else I'm all set with hunting with you!! People wonder why nowadays everyone says no when you ask to hunt a yard or property.. It's because everyone and their uncle left open holes all over the place,, it's just common courtesy, nevermind in our code of ethics!! Thanks for the comment, and thank you for watching! I've actually had a few people say the same thing and you're exactly right!! That part of the drained lake had a WW2 target range of sorts down there, forgot what the old guy down there told me , but there definitely was that there, exactly at that spot, He said back in the 50s they drained it, too look for a family that disappeared, who ended up driving off the bridge long before there were proper guardrails there, and when they drained it, they filled like 6 50 Gallon drums of those rounds , live rounds, spent rounds all types!! Hey, you're hunting in a great area, keep it going, you'll find something great eventually 😊 I have some friends that do great in the St Augustine area, can't go wrong hunting anywhere on the Fla beaches, unfortunately everyone and their uncle with a metal detector will go there to try their luck!! As for me , thank you , I really appreciate your comment, I am surrounded by amazing history here in Mass, this particular spot is 220+ acres of drained lake that's only been drained once before in the 50's, so there's endless Treasures to be found, don't get me wrong I find tons upon tons of trash, and have enough fishing weights, lures, hooks, spoons, etc to open 6 fishing tackle stores lol but always seem to dig somthing awesome up!! I love the history part of it all, Wondering who could have dropped it, or researching what I have found is the best part!! I'm the same way here when I do the beaches, in New Hampshire, or our Mass Beaches, I'll never find anything old, I may get lucky with a ring here and there, but rarely get something old! And you figure beaches been here since the beginning of time, you should be able to find all types of old stuff, but I never can haha, wishing you all the best luck on your hunting,, thank you so so much for watching and commenting I really appreciate it!! Haha thank you, it does too right? Its definitely a leaf though, you can see it bend under my hand! Its funny you say that though because this area , used to be loaded with all types of native american artifacts, i have 2 older buddies who tell me their fathers used to take them there to collect arrowheads when they were really young, and its funny because i cant find a single one, or piece of one lol, im looking but not hard enough i think!? Im more interested in flying around with my detector, than really getting into the areas that were plentiful way back, and really looking good in there.. Although through the 80s, and 90s, all the local colleges , history and archeology classes gridded all the areas around here, gathering all the arrow heads and everything native american they could find, it happened in many places around Springfield, where there was significant native american activities,, The good thing about it is they donated all their finds to the colleges and museums here in Springfield! So when you go in there, they have rooms upon rooms of native american exhibits with zillions of arrowheads and stuff lol, pretty much explains why i cant find any!! Not saying they can possibly get them all but they sure did get pretty much most of them id imagine, seeing i cant find a one🤣 take care, thanks for watching and commenting!! HH-Ray☘️

why are so many coins here? was this like a resort or something?
@413MassDigger
@413MassDigger 3 года назад
Haha no it's not a resort, I'm in Springfield Mass, this is in the middle of the city pretty much, it's a almost 220 year old lake ya know? So much different things went on here over the years , from people either swimming, throwing them in, losing them? Who knows, any reason ya know? The colonial coins I'm finding here, tells me that it was once a swimming hole one time, late 1700s to mid 1800s or so... On top of a lot of different things went on here over the years, back in the early to mid 1800s the lake would freeze in the winter, and they would have tons of guys with horses out on the lake, cutting blocks of ice for local ice shops etc, and using the horses to pull the blocks of ice out of the water.. So I'm sure a lot of coins and money passed through hands during that time, with the occasional ones falling out of pockets, or into the water, etc.. Also don't forget, kids throwing coins into the water, because we'll that's just what people do right? Lol.. But I'd imagine way back there was a few swimming holes when the river here was originally dammed up to create this big lake! A lot of the colonial coins were bigger and heavier than the coins we used today, and easily fell out of pockets while swimming, or washing clothes in the water.. I really appreciate you watching and commenting, thanks!! HH-Ray☘️

A 200 acre drained lake from 1807 that's been swam in for 214 years, and never once drained, there won't be coins and jewelry upon hundreds of other things I've found in there? Not sure what you're insinuating but if you know anything about Detecting, you would know , theres no funny buisness going on in any of these videos or finds.. Every coin shown coming from whatever hole is no questions out of the ground, there's no denying that..from the condition of the coins shown . Any silver coin or gold coin or piece of jewelry, will clean up as beautiful as the day it was dropped because those metals don't rot or corrode in the ground, Copper also, except copper coins will corrode a little bit leaving it tough to get a date off it or a ID on the coin.. Key fob would not be a key fob. A medallion more like. Quite standard at the period they were used. The version of those torches we had were nickel plated which had a tendancy to wear away. (11:42). contemporary earing with a pentagram . The little pot looks like a modern spice jar. Some fabulous coins . The 1944 mercury dime was very decorative, pretty .The Standing Liberty Quarter would be my favourite out of your haul. Fascinating location to be detecting!

Hey 413. 860 hitting you up! Colebrook area reservoirs are still drained. You wont get thrown out and being man made who knows what might be in the muck..... normally id say to stick to your side of town but you seem ok, so theres the invite.

@@413MassDigger Hey no problem. I hang out at lake Shaffer most of the summer. My Brother and I took a drive to Lake Freeman and walked under the docks. It was interesting and unusual!

Thanks for watching, yes most of the buckles that been coming up are definitely old! Especially the shoe buckle frame, is 1740-1760, super happy to save those when I do!! HH-Ray☘️
