Draining Guppy Pond - End of Summer Tubbing 2023

Yea it was a distinct odor for sure, luckily Mrs Aquadiction is here to get lumberd with the nasty jobs lol :)

Should def give it a go sometime, Ricefish would be a great option to make a little breeding money as bulletproof fish!

haha yea shes great at getting stuck into the messy jobs! The pond had allot of waterlice that came in on some Ecocompete years ago and got into the pond when moving bits and bobs around, I'm wondering if they took out a lot of the shrimp?! Looking in the drained pond this morning I can see a Buch more shrimp we missed yesterday when it was all churned up but not as many as I put in or would have expected! And yeas assasin snails I forgot to mention in the video, the best weapon against the pond snails ever :)

Haha, yeah i should have saved the fish room haunting till then, have to think up something else now!

Thanks bud! We will be leaving the rice fish out all winter and maybe next summer just do rice fish ponds depending how they go over the winter, shame guppies/endlers have to come in really!

Yea that's why we have gone mostly Rice fish ponds this year so we can leave them out all year round, ever thought about some ricefish?

@@Aquadiction I have thought of rice fish maybe for next season but where I live nothing can stay out all year it gets too cold in winter . My tubs would freeze solid and be buried in snow. 🥶

Sounds very interesting, never tried Corydoras outside, did you have any breeding out there from anything?

All of the fish I listed had fry. I just create a huge live food web before adding the fish. O and heaters are necessary for my climate. Night time temps are way too cold for Amazon fish. I also separate adults into large mesh baskets so they don’t eat their eggs or fry.

@@Aquadiction you know, I always wonder about that smell, as I’ve experienced it myself taking apart certain heavily planted systems. Is it a sign of bad water? The creatures all seem healthy. I’d be curious what the water in your ponds tested like?

@LushSaltyAquariums good point, I also noticed it back 3/4 years back (before uk electricity became ridiculous expensive) in tanks we had a lot of Amazon swords! Don’t really ever test our water tbh but will see if I can dig out some test kits and test what’s left of the drained pond this weekend! The smell is essentially like when our husky decides to jump in stagnant ponds next to where we live! Very odd but we did have some garden peat fall in the pond over the summer when topping up the plants behind them so could be that but never found any dead fish outside…and never ever run any air or filters on our tubs so i guess it’s somewhat stagnant! Had i found RU-vid before having ponds I would have ended up with some filter or air pump out there but for whatever reason myself and dad before me have never had pond filtration or aeration and never had a problem even with goldfish ponds setup 10+ years! Very odd on reflection that we never had a problem!

Where are you located? We summer tubbed with several types of rasboras last summer (some videos somewhere on here) without a problem the trick was not putting them out 2 early and making sure the overnight temps don't drop below 12c and ours were fine, not sure if that helps!?
