This is full blown cap 😂😂 what other accent does he speak or rap in if you say Jamaican or carribean that’s fuckin Toronto if you say Memphis that’s not an accent that’s a flow and beat style so please tell me
Drake doesn’t have An accent. He as a rich boy growing up in Toronto. The Toronto accent is a Caribbean accent. Unless you are from the Caribbean or your parents are you shouldn’t have an accent. Torontonians speak like Californians or someone from Seattle.
I’m from Seattle and dated a man from Toronto and you’re dead wrong. Like, laughably incorrect. Everyone noticed his accent, he sounded nothing like us. I also lived in SoCal and my husband sounds way closer to that accent than anyone from Toronto I’ve ever met
Yeah because that one guy you dated represents an entire demographic. Someone who lives close to Toronto and has spent a considerable about of time it here is a lot more credible than you..also, many people force the Toronto man’s accent because they want to make it something but it’s not a natural accent among the general population like you may hear in Brooklyn NY for example. You also may have dated someone with carribean descent. The only thing that’s laughable is how blindly ignorant you are. California and Seattle don’t have detectable accents, they are your standard American accent just like torontonians have.
Nah, not only Caribbeans have this accent in Toronto, but his is heavily exaggerated. Lilly Singh is more how the accent sounds or a little softer than it.
@@-dp8hxHow when Drake was in Memphis since a kid. He would visit his dad and other family every summer. That’s how he got the accent. There’s old videos of him rapping as a young kid, and he sounds just like this.

Toronto man here: Accent started from all the Waste Yutes trying to sound like a Caribbean. Especially Jamaican. Us Caribbeans are the trend starters here! We Caribbeans say there is no better form of flattery than imitation.😂
The Caribbean isnt homogenous, every country has its own accent and words, yes a lot of other Caribbean countries adopted Jamaican slangs/words/language but its still not Caribbean, its Jamaican. If that was the case, Jamaica would represent the Caribbean but dont forget, there are Spanish and French speaking countries in the Caribbean too.
Pretty sure it's kids that grew up in like Eglinton west and other Jamaican neighbourhoods. There's a lot of first Nation in those same neighborhoods so there's some Rez in there too.
Good to see Marlon giving some proper insight from niggas that’s actually here. Whenever i hear ppl having a drake/toronto convo it be a lot of missing context and a lot of those distinctions were spoken on in this stream, big up
"Did Cole foul, I don't know why you still pretendin'" to me might actually refer to a rumor that the reason Drake left the Dreamville Festival without performing First Person Shooter with Cole was because he had heard Cole was going to apologize to Kendrick. He then proceeded to basically call Cole a pussy for the rest of his disses ("I don't care what Cole say, that Dot shit was weak as fuck," "Cole losing sleep over this, it ain't me")
I suspect the accent naturally developed over time due to Toronto being kind of a melting pot of all kinds of different cultures. Kids from all kinds of backgrounds, cultures, and religions all grow up going to school together and the accents kind of rub off and blend in together. This would be especially true for newer immigrants still adapting to life in a new country. When I visited England a few years ago I was briefly floored when I heard a double-accent. It was both an Indian accent mixed with a very British one. Blew my stoner mind 😅 Then I realized I'm an idiot and ofc he'd have unintentionally adopted the posh accent when that's what he hears all the time and I was also regarded as having an accent while in England; not the other way around. Anyways, I think that's pretty much what happened with Toronto and its surrounding cities. In certain areas, everyone's accents just blended together to sound vaguely hood.
It’s Jamaican accent because of population demographic and immigrants but it’s not the same all round Canada what is the history is where the accent came from
in world war 2 a lot of Jamaican men joined the British and Canadian army and settle in cities like London Toronto New York by having influence on the nightlife with music overtime the accent just developes
It's just like New York. Toronto is full of people from everywhere else. Nobody in Toronto is from Toronto. But I love it. The culture and diversity is amazing.
Meh. Not the majority. At least not many ppl that I know or have come in contact with. Not sure what areas you frequent or if you live in Toronto. I know very few people that were actually born in and live in Toronto. Just because you've been here for years doesn't count as being from here. The majority of the population is from elsewhere.
@@redbrickhustla86 who aren't what? What are u even talkin about? U can look this shit up. The majority of the demographic is from elsewhere....and increasing.
@@notahn i’m frm toronto n he don’t sound like he frm toronto. is cus not all mans in toronto have the accent, it’s typically in areas w high jamaican/somalian populations
@@doshpoles Not the same culture as somebody straight outta Africa. I'm pretty sure the person means immigrants from Africa, not African Americans. Lmao.
Caribbeans came to Toronto and their offspring who were born in Canada heavily influenced how urban Canada speaks. Anyone who isn't from this lineage and talks with an urban Toronto accent just know its black people who started it..Thats goes for any city where black people are. Black people in qny city don't start talking like the people around them the races around us start being influenced by us. Black Americans and Caribbeans have influenced the world the most when it pertains to slang and street/urban culture.. (it is what it is).
This that dude has on that kid show 20 years ago? He used to look like he walked through a sandstorm. Glad he made it outta the Canadian version of saved by the bell.
being from Toronto and growing up in 80s 90s no matter what culture you were. At one point we all said something in Toronto mans talk lol. guess it from all the different cultures in the city.
