HS senior year 2010: Crazy how I’d listen to this many nights, almost every night thinking about what I wanted to do with my life and somehow become a firefighter and help people. Now 11 years later I’m a firefighter in the air force and teaching at the fire academy. Which was my dream. Work hard, believe in yourself and things will come true. Bless to all who appreciate and love this song. Much love!!!
I graduated in 2013 but man I heard drake since room for improvement. And I always thought he was so unique.Out of all the rappers ever… I can say drake had the biggest change from back then to now.. can’t say for the best.. but I can’t say for the worst either. He’s a goat for sure. But man if he dropped something like this nowadays, I may shed a tear.
I remember living in a homeless shelter 7 months pregnant baby daddy in jail listening to this two years later my daughter healthy and we in our own apartment now I got new dreams trying to get out of NYS ‼️♥️ God always makes a way always always always he is FAITHFUL 🛐
@@salvadornehuenmartinez7705 She so fucking stupid dude😂😂 She'll prob have to give up her shitty ass baby and won't have enough money to take care of it
@@isaacruis That’s a fact. Once you get money. You don’t have many problems and you’ve accomplished everything you wanted. When you up, it’s nothing to look up to.
I believe in you... and I'm kinda psychic. I just feel it. If you have doubt... if you feel scared...of failing...if you feel scared of making it...if you put your dream's out there and you're scared what people may say... just know...you'll never know what you could be .. if you just dont damn well do it. I'd rather fail and try rather than look back at all the millionaires in life and say maybe I could've done that.
Literally crying cause this song got me through high school. And here I am 32 years old and living better than I ever have. I cry tears of joy cause everything does get better 🥹
I cried in JR high to this and now I’m 29 engaged and fenna be the biggest nigga outta the south. Repping Arkansas. The new drake fr. With face tattoos. And just a tad slimeyerrrrr
bust14u21 on this song, in it's orginal form he literally says "don't be a biter not a writter for yourself and others man, get ya own"(if you type this song and then original and listen to the end of the track were he talks). implying he wrote back then. what fun is there in bieng a hater? nigga was hungry commin up.
This song helped me become a professional basketball player and now software engineer, I listened to this everyday when I was broke and just never stopped dreaming. I hope yall still get chills 14 years later like I still do
This song is my motivation. I remember when I first heard this back in 08 when Drake started and didn't release his first album. When I heard THIS song I knew, that Drake would become something very special and great.
This Drake is gone. Never to return. In 30 for 30Freestyle he says that he can't rap like this, 19 wide-eyed and naive. He's drastically changing, and he's in a new space and he chooses to embrace it. He grew up and changed. No, not changed, evolved. His style, his lyricism, all of him has evolved and adapted to the years and all the new styles of rap. That's what keeps him on top.
He gotta stay in that pop lane now. Pusha T permanently banished him from being a relevant name in hip hop. He proved that he aint built to lyrically spar with the greats when he has to
My brother showed me this whole mixtape and then Take care. My big brother and I always bumped OVO 🦉almost a year now since he’s up in heaven now. I’m crying thinking of the times we shared traveling smoking up and vibin to Aubrey long live my brother CANDRICKBEGAY 😢😢😢😢🕊️
“It ain’t even started I’m really tryna prepare y’all 🤷🏽♂️” He saw it... he went for it... no fear... look at all that he’s achieved. Shiii is hella inspiring. Hustle music!
Man, I remember listening to this when I was in high school. Most of the people I grew up with didn’t make it. May they Rest In Peace. Gun violence is real in Chicago. They the reason I am a police officer now. I carry the full weight of all the friends I’ve lost.
Amazing how much has changed. I was 15 listening to this late nights. Wondering about life, thinking about how chill my day went.....No worries. Just staring at the ceiling at night vibing my iPod and my thoughts. Had I known time would fly so quickly I would have enjoyed that time just a little bit more. I wouldn’t have been in such a rush to grow up.
when this came out, I was going through it with no success in sight at the age of 18-20. Caught minor court cases, dropped out of college twice, girl I loved at the time didn’t give me the time of day, unfit, life was rough. Fast track today, I served the military, invested in property, married a beautiful foreign, work a 6 figure career, graduated with a masters and working towards a second, traveled immensely, life is great! Anyone who is going through it, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Keep focused, keep grinding, and dont give up! Your time is near!
"I just listened to Closer To My Dreams Wide eyed and uneducated at 19 I can't rap like that, all young and naive Not after all of the shit I've seen and the things I believe"
Damn! This that 09 vibe right here. Sitting in the backyard, beautiful day and just finished senior year. Looking up, wondering, where life is gonna take me. Now, I’m following Jesus, and getting married in 2 weeks!
That's a blessing bro. Life is crazy like that sometimes. Thru the good and the bad times, we gotta keep our faith in God and know that no matter what things will get better with time. I know it might not look like it is sometimes but that's the beauty of it. Not knowing what's gonna happen next is the thrill of it all. We gotta just keep on fighting this fighting 💪🏿. Everything is going to be just fine. God got us thru it all. He knew what we were going to say, do, and think of before we were even born. We just put here on this earth for nothing. We all have a purpose you feel me mane.
to any one listening knows this song makes you feel like your somewhere back in time, knowing drake wasnt famous or rich back in 08 before the internet before ymcmb just a guy in toronto with 40 making this shit in a different era, speaking to himself 8 years later
Song hits so hard and it’s something everybody can relate to. My wife and I have a a 2 yr old daughter with a son otw and I been wanting to move into a bigger house so we got some more room. This song reminded me that the dream ain’t as far as we think it is!!! Drake really the goat 🐐
This is honestly my favorite Drake song of all time, it connects with me deep on A level that inspires and puts me in A mindset to truly believe it's all possible with commitment and effort. My Drake top 5 1. Closer to my Dreams(Comeback season) 2. From Time (Nothing Was The Same) 3. Too Much (Nothing Was The Same) 4. Headlines (Take Care) 5. I guess it’s f**k me (Her loss)
I will listen to this song for as long as I live. About 10 years ago when I first heard it, these lyrics and music/instruments really hit me hard. Today this reminds me how far I have come in my grind to becoming a surgeon. I will always think back to my middle/high school days with this song. Life moves by so fast but it’s nice when you’re accomplishing dreams along the way ❤️
Love this song .Still listen to this when I get stressed . Reminds me that you will make it one day and don’t give up. Early drake songs are so inspirational still .
I really wish Drake had stuck with these kind of lyrics and this type of sound. This is a hip-hop delight. His commercial albums just don't have this type of soul on them.
@@angelaveeve2433 Within them.* (YOU FORGOT THE PERIOD) If you're going to boorishly nitpick my grammatical phrasing, the least you could do is use proper punctuation.
He’s evolved. This was back when he was young and hungry for success. But he’s found a flow that can literally produce hits every single year. The success he has now is the success he’s talking about in this very song. There’s nothing wrong with it either. The hits he has now just have a different soul, which is a natural change.
Even then, he’ll connect back with his roots at times. For example on CLB, Just look at race my mind, 7am on bridle path, champagne poetry, the remorse, and pipe down.
So I listened to the 30 for 30 freestyle and he addressed why he doesnt rap like this any more? And now that Im listening to this again it makes alot of sense. Thats why I like Drake as an artist. Maybe partly because Im around his age but I've grown so much from back when this track first came out. And so has he......
Chris Black just imagine coming from not having anything to having the whole world and more money than you know what to do with do you really expect anyone to stay in the same place mentally forever ?
I have a Love hate thing for Drake. 2009.. this dude was my fucking hero. He wasn’t scared to be his self. Now… he takes others styles and blows it up. I’m not mad at him, cause he is a super star and has the star power to do that. But damn…I wish .. I miss THIS DRAKE.
Every now and then i come back to this and it always reminds of a wayyy simpler time. Crazy that i been listening to Drake since 08. Shoutout to all the ppl still trying to get closer to thier dreams !
High school years were tough but this song kept me going I still say I'm closer to my dreams I got a car an apartment I'm still yet to reach my pinnacle and this song will forever remind me to stay on the low and grind harder thank you Champagne Papi
Walking to school listening to this and ‘who dat’ by J.Cole to get hyped for the day will forever be engraved in my memories. Thank you Drake for helping me make it through my childhood🫶🏼
My Uncle Had The Original As His Ringtone on All His Phones lol man Years Fly by fr, RIP Uncle D Everytime I Hear This I think of you man wish we could smoke one more blunt together.
It's crazy how much music is able to recall certain times in your life. When this dropped, I was an 8th grader going into my freshman year at the same high school Klay Thompson just graduated from. I'm 24 years old turning 25 in 2 weeks and I'm just sitting here reflecting. If only I could go back with the knowledge I have now, but that's what growth is I guess. And this song really makes me appreciate where I am at now in life.
Every once in awhile over a period of 13 years I come back to this song and reflect... This got me through the worse waves in my life. Im not there yet but im getting closer to my dreams.
This joint honestly is the beginning of the modern era, like RU-vid started popping off, the iPhone was coming out, Drake was starting to get recognized, social media was starting to become popular, crazy times, I often reflect about it, good times, simpler times
When he said " i been urkel for some years is better being jaleel" boy that verse was slept on. (steve Urkel is a actor played by Jaleel White) basically saying it's better being drake than being Jimmy brooks
High School Year , Grandmother Just Died && I Was Going Through A Lot , Listening To This Song Helped Me Get Through A Lot. I Still Listen To This When I Think About My Grandmother. I Love You Grandma. 🥺❤️ Thank You Drake. 💯
2:16 am and I clocked out of work and doing my school work to wake up at 7am and get back to the grind… life is good when the hustle is real… stay blessed y’all ❤
