Privateer is my ultimate end-game goal, which is fitting because by the time I can convince my wife to let me spend the money, they ship MIGHT be released!
I'm in the same situation I don't even have a computer that can run Star Citizen . Convincing my wife that to buy a proper spec gaming computer AND a capital ship I better win the lottery first.
Unfortunately, I am a solo player at the majority of the time. The two biggest ships I own my account are the caterpillar and Perseus. I would absolutely love to have the Kraken if I knew I had enough friends to run it consistently. I love this strike carrier.
The shop inventories make me really wonder just how expansive the new overall cargo for the BMM will be after the larger scale it started working towards. And if the bottom cargohold will start serving as a mini hangar as well.
My money is on the move to modularity. Meaning you'll have the Kraken base. And then the Privateer will be base + shops module. 'Cause I could easily see them having a refining module, hospital module, prison module, etc.
It's not really "modular" in a conventional sense. It's a full conversion that should cost a fair bit of UEC to do, rather than switching out a housing or something similar.
I was going to potentially get the Kraken (base), but once the Ironclad Assault was announced, I’ve opted to go for something a third of the price that’s a more practical size, and will give me a lot of the functionality I wanted (ie a pocket carrier). I tend to look at the Kraken as my long-term stretch goal to eventually be able to afford to buy one in-game. Let’s face it, $1400 in cash for a ship when you already own multiple others, is an insane amount to spend and really can only be justified from a ‘backing the project’ perspective.
Its usually pretty easy to get people in a server to join each others shenanigans. Once i have this in hand im sure others will be delighted to join me to help run it.
I love the idea of carriers in space, I hope we see some other aegis or anvil dedicated light carriers for the UEE so they don't have to send a Bengal in every case.
The biggest ship I really want is my 600i Explorer... but... NGL... the Kraken is a *glorious* ship. It's one of the few ships that _cannot_ be soloed that I do sometimes dream about. And I'm torn between the base model and the Privateer. It's insane. I can't even imagine how many paints I'd have to flip to build up that much Store Credit to ever be able to get them.
This is my baby!! Bought it last IAE. I have to admit I’m a bit of a sucker. Not on purpose it just happened. Started with a Liberator and then the Kraken happened…. My boy and I can’t wait to use it to base salvage and mining ops out of. The image of a Kraken lowering out of space through atmosphere to a place to sell I imagine would be awesome. Can’t wait.
For me the Krakens are both a 7. I love, love, lover the design. The features are fantastic. My one and only issue with these ships is, I'm more of a solo player. So, my score is less issues with the ship and more about it is too much ship to run solo.
Carriers are the ultimate modular multirole fleet centerpiece. Scalable for whatever size operation. It really is only limited by pad/bay size, and quantity.
The Kracken would be great for group play. CIG says they aren't working on some things because there isn't game play available, but larger, self sustaining ships would be great anyway.
I bought the Kraken (not privateer) few months ago and this was my dream, after one month I spent same amount for Valkyrie Liberator, whatever dream you have once it fulfilled, you will have another one:) don't say it's the last one, it's the endgoal, etc
I think the privateer is a waste. There's already the BMM for mobile shops (with a lower running cost) and I am not too convinced mobile shops will even be popular. People like to know where to reliable get specific things and you can only really have that with static shops. At its heart, Kraken is a carrier and support platform for smaller ships. And with a bigger storage space, the normal Kraken is going to be better at its core job. It's like sacrificing 2 fighter spots on an Idris to give it a refinery. I really don't get the appeal of making a ship worse at its main job to give it some utility other ships or even just stations are better at anyway.
I could never afford that sort of ship. Im happy to have my fream ship well the Hercules is my all time favourite so I managed to get an upgrad for a c1 and I also have a soft spot for the drake cutter and have that on an alt account.😊
sadly the large pads are not big enough for Redeemers to be safely secured. maybe they'll change/expand it in the future though. They could still totally be an escort ship though. But the Kraken as of now's on-board fleet pretty much tops out at 6 Buccaneers and two Vanguards/Ares as far as firepower goes. As for the argument for why pick a Privateer over a Base + Merchantman: a Merchantman doesn't have the same defenses and AFAIK can't as easily set up shop in space. a Privateer can just setup at an Orbital Marker and let customers come and go with ease. finally, i agree that every Kraken should come stock with a MULE, a Dragonfly, and a passenger Cutter variant. as for crew quarters: i think it should come with a captain's room plus bunks for at least 20 more crew. 9 turrret gunners, 1 pilot, 1 or 2 engineers, and then 8 to 9 more for the flight/ground crew and guests (or for rotating positions depending on how "realistic" the game is aimed to be). it's silly if there are only enough beds for the necessary ship crew and any carrier/expedition use would require giving up those stations temporarily; on the Carrack and smaller ships it makes sense, but on a capital ship it would be a dumb choice.
Honestly, CIG needs to fix its contradictory model. First, everyone should buy a multitude of ships for their enjoyment; simultaneously, more than half the ships we make require multiple players to operate meaning that most people's fleets are pointless.
2:36 😂 Jokes aside, it is a huge ship and I would love to own the privateer in game. Great comparisons with the Idris, as they are both large cap ships and we know how one handles. I see you turned the music softer! Very nice. I didn’t know it would make such a difference to the video.
Every time I see Kraken I am suprised how CIG managed to pull of designing ship from a manufacturer whose whole design identity is to look like 90's Civic held by ductape and zip ties, but still make it look like a baddas warmachine that inspires fear.
I like the Kraken Privateer the most. I appreciate the art style of the Banu Merchantman but I prefer the more Bazaar-like concepts in the Privateer. Not sure if I'll ever be in a situation where I'd use a ship like that, especially with a small org, but I like to think about it from time to time. Not sure what my in-game goals will end up being, after all, so I like to be knowledgeable about the ships (Maybe I'll pirate one, idk).
While I think the BMM will be the capital ship most suited for solo players, the Kraken may be a close second due to its sheer open-endedness, and t's not a ginormous boat with turrets for your friends to hop on like the Idris or Javelin
its me, after a long break i have returned. Before watching this tho i have been thinking a lot about the kraken. so its simular to early ww1 ships modified into carriers which had a number of issues running the guns and flight deck in war zones. that being said i do see this ship as valuable in industrial roles which it is marketed as an industrial ship but this is where i didnt fully consider things in the past. i dont think its ment to fight captial ships that seems fair enough. it might be able to strike enemies but idk about long term engagements. but smaller bounties and missions it could act as a solid base for org movements or a support craft. if the dragonfly bay can ever be changed out for a medical bay or if a medical bay is on board it could compete with a lot of ships but if it can carry medical craft that could also change the game here. mining and salvaging i think would be good for this offering guns which those ships dont really have and a place to store and supplies and rest or log off. but i also recently got to thinking about fuel- it cant produce fuel but really this is the biggest and most capable fuel transport we have in the game aswell. especially if the cargo hold can be filled with more fuel containers as many ships might want to carry extra fuel containers on board. it covers the main weakness of the starfarer which is protection. the kraken is the only ship that can realisticly go into hostile space to perform many jobs without a fleet of specialized ships the only limiting factors to it are the actual capabilities of the ship itself, it stores goods, moves them, and can even do repairs for smaller ships which makes it a potential powerhouse for industrial professions and a hub for all industrial ships. its main weakpoint industrially is just its lack of equipment to perform certain functions like say refining metals ect but it can supplement them with its top deck. it will never perform as effeciently as specilized capital ships but its a flexible base .
If I could have the choice of any ship in the game as a birthday present from Chris Roberts, I would without hesitation chose the KRAKEN. . For now, I will have to pretend my CUTLASS BLACK is bigger than it looks....
I get that you can buy them, speculate about them, give a rough vision on them and rate their concept art, but I don't think there's enough substance yet to rank the ships themselves. The Kraken are so fundamentally different from everything that's in the game right now both in size and in role. As the game and the Drake brand and its design continue to evolve, the Kraken will likely evolve with them, both in visual design as well as gameplay mechanics. While I don't have any issues with png ships, I feel like 'rating' these specific ones gives them a kind of validation even CIG didn't intend for them yet. This wouldn't be such a big deal, if they weren't both the price of a small used car.
If it wasn't available for purchase I would agree with all your points. But when anyone purchases anything with real money they should consider the value of what they are buying and most people look to see what others are buying to help make their decisions. I'm just adding my opinion to help people make the decision of whether to purchase or not. CIG shouldn't list anything for sale that they don't want us to opine about. I hear you though, that's why I'll provide updated reviews for every ship as they are released.
My guess is yes. Most other hoverbikes didn't exist when the original Kraken was in initial concept otherwise it most likely would have been called a hoverbike bay or snub bay.
The ship should definitely not get bigger weapons and pilot controlled weapons it was not meant for that. Real Naval Carriers allow the ships on board to do all of the fighting for them and this ship should do the same. Giving it pilot weapons and all of that noise would make it OP.
Ah I was just trying to justify the price. I could do without the extra guns. But to your point real naval carriers have missiles and weapons. I was on the USS Nimitz look it up. I saw them with my own eyes. So i wouldn't call it noise. I think people forget I was active duty 9 years.
@@billionaireninjas spent over 20 years in the military and just retired 3 years ago of course I know what the Nimitz is. I was only responding to the recommendations of how to make the ship better, which is release it lol.
@@billionaireninjas you would probably know better when it comes to carriers, I was an aircraft avionics systems craftsman/engineer and currently work for Lockheed Martin as an aircraft engineer so I know fighters and bombers lol. I was just unaware that aircraft carriers had ship to ship battles like battleships I thought they heavily relied on their support aircraft but I could be wrong.
The billionaire ninja didn't mention point bmm needs to land to sell goods. Krkane priv can remain in space to sell. Alot of disappointment will happen to bmm owners when they read og bmm pitch.
Kraken looks nice but for me i see no reason to have one. in my opinion its a large org ship. 20 crewmembers for the ship and ofcourse aditional crew for the fighters onboard....
I don't recall that. When they announce the next manufacturer after RSI we'll have a better picture. Because my guess is it's either Drake or Anvil. Anvil because liberator, legionnaire, Crucible, Carrack Modularity and more MK II variants. Drake because Caterpillar Modularity, Herald functionailty (data running), Ironclad, the upcoming Drake corvette people are discussing, and of course the Kraken.
@@billionaireninjas you dont like comments if they go against something you are saying huh? As with a lot of other content creators they enjoy when people have discussions and debates on topics in their comment section because it brings in discussions. You justify prices of ships by adding more to the ship when the real justification should be CIG should lower the price. Some of us are buying the ship for it was meant to be so if CIG overcharges for it then we just say its overpriced for what it is. Adding more makes it way off-balanced. Your Eclipse video you say lower the torp sizes and give it 10 more torps and bigger guns, but the design of the ship doesn't allow that and it would make no sense to do that. If you didnt like my comment I mean you could have pressed on with your day but you chose to reply. Happy 4th to you.
All that manned turret shit is such a bad game design and gameplay design. I bet when the people one day realize that its stupid, they gonna make turrets replaceable. Wasting so much internal space on stupid walkways is just dumb ^^ Cant wait for AI blades even if they are 50% worse than people. But they will atleast be there when i want it and not having to wait hours until my people come together.
