Old lady here with a take on moving away and making new friends: the friends you make after your fresh start in a new place will be getting to know YOU and not the "you" you've been your entire life. You will absolutely make new friends because they will see you.

I’m sorry you got rejected during a vulnerable time. My next door neighbor was in a dark place and called me in the middle of the night. I went next door, in my pajamas, took all the guns and then we got in his car and drove around the city for over 2 hours, in mostly silence. I had to get up at 5:30 am to get ready for work. I was exhausted but my neighbor didn’t end up doing something permanent over a temporary issue and leave his son without his dad. I was glad to be exhausted the entire next day. I’d do it 50 times over with anyone. My little brother died by suicide. I do it for him. 🌻💛

For me it wasn't so much the drama that turned me off from beauty RU-vid but just that these influencers became so out of touch with the realities of their viewers. The excessive spending that most people cannot afford. And then getting a lot of work done to their faces so that they all started to look the same. It got tiring so I started watching smaller creators much more.

Firstly, I truly believe that the current RU-vid beauty community is leaps and bounds better than the Dramageddon era. Smaller, yes, but that happens when the cream rises to the top. Secondly, I’ve had that friend experience as well. We were connected at the hip. Even after she married, we, along with our husbands, were connected at hip. Then something happened (in spring of 2012) that changed everything. Big issue is that I still don’t know what it was, and despite asking her periodically for several years, she still hasn’t told me. So my wall is up, except with my husband and sweet little dog, Archie. It’s still something that I think about EVERY darned day.

I have a really hard time making and keeping close friends. I had a very close friendship as a child that led into my teen/early adult years that I invested ALL my time in and ended up ignoring other friendships. That friendship ended on a fairly sour note, and that left me with very few people I could really talk to. My husband is now my closest friend, but I really want to have other friends I can talk to, particularly female friends. I just don't know how to cultivate and maintain those close friendships anymore 😕

I totally describe myself as an extroverted introvert as well!! It’s a hard place to be in when you realize people that are important to you do not value you in the same way. So I had to google Dramageddon and although I’ve heard of a few of the people involved, I’ve never watched their content. However, I have been watching beauty content since 2018 and have seen some drama between other creators and stopped watching them because of it. I like your channel, Allie Glines, Jen Phelps, Angie Hot and Flashy, Emily Noel and a few others. When I think of the creators I watch they all have something in common, no drama! Just testing new makeup and letting us know what’s worth our money and what isn’t.

I had a similar experience with my “best friend” like the one you had with yours in Iowa. I went through it with her more then once through a course of over 20 yrs. That has shut me down from having friends and confiding in people. It made me very closed off and even in my most darkest moments with mental health issues I stopped reaching out to people. But the positive side of it is that its brought me closer to God.

Second comment of the video, on a more serious note: I had a very similar experience with someone I thought was a close friend. I was going through a divorce and needed to get out of there. I asked a close friend if I could stay with them or if they knew someone I could stay with and they responded, "Well, my boyfriend is not really comfortable with that." It was so hard reaching out for help and I felt so deflated. Luckily I was able to get myself out of my living situation, but our friendship was never the same after that.

You made me go back and look at pictures of when I was 36 (1998). If I could go back then I would stop hanging out with all the dog show ladies who were 20-30 years older than me and so far away from my own belief system and culture... and make more friends my own age and culture. Artists, musicians, fun people. And I wouldn't have taken dog showing so seriously. Enjoy your journey and cherish your friends. I really enjoy your videos. But I honestly wish I paid as much attention to making friends along the way that were more like me than I did. I'm the one who made you the porcelain pin of Aries. And it's especially hard when you know you are such a good friend to others and sometimes you don't get the same from them. And to not have friends to turn to is so difficult.

The person who refused to be there for you when you reached out for help was a terrible friend and I’m so sorry you had to endure that but I’m so proud of you that you pushed through that hard time and made it to here. I literally had tears in my eyes when you told that story and I can def relate to putting so much into a friendship and getting nothing back. It’s also really hard to explain mental health struggles to people who do not have them and they do not want to understand. I honestly can't even that a friend told you it wasn't a good time. I've had people I haven't even really known well reach out to me in similar situations and I ALWAYS make the time for them - I've been in similar situations where thoughts have gotten very intrusive and if someone hadn't been there for me at the time I don't know where I would be today. I applaud you for taking the same learning and I love that you have found a true friend as a result. ❤ Especially in our 30s its so hard to make meaningful connections and friendships - in a new city is so challenging. When I moved cities I was working full time and started working part time at Sephora as a way to make friends and honestly was such a great move because I met people with similar interests who have become some of my closest friends.

I am so sorry for what you went through with that old supposed friend. I am like you, I can not imagine turning someone away that is in obvious need of support. You deserve better and you've found better. You even were able to give the comfort you were not. I think you are a wonderful person Samantha. As for dramagedon, it didn't affect me bc I just stayed in my lane. It's sad though that it put so many off. For me nothing can compare to the happiness of watching people talk about and play with makeup.

I agree about dramagedon, which is partly why for the most part I’ve always preferred the smaller youtube channels. I just feel as though I can relate to them more. Thank you for taking us along with you on your journey and it’s heartbreaking that a “friend” wasn’t the support you needed in your life BUT you seemed to have found your tribe, which is a beautiful thing. You can see the true bond that you and Ashley have. And she's an absolute natural on camera. I think a podcast would be a fantastic idea! It's so sad to hear that people left after dramagetten. Those people involved were the top four or five people in the beauty community. What makes up the beauty Community are all the others that put their heart and soul into it. Those are the ones that I watch and love. That's what the Beauty Community is to me.

I’m considerably older than you are and have managed to learn some things…sometimes learned in a difficult and slightly confusing was, but learned nonetheless! If you just live the kind of life that makes you comfortable and happy…and just keep your mind and heart open…you will suddenly find that you’ve met someone who fits nicely into that life and you in his! Don’t push it…don’t expect to meet someone in the “usual” places…just live and let it happen. You have soooo much going for you, let someone someday realize how lucky he is to have you in his life!!

I miss watching beauty videos of simply talking and putting on makeup the way I’ve always loved makeup. I used to put on my Nanas makeup at a very young age. I just enjoy playing with makeup. I miss tutorials and simply playing with makeup. I think I repeated myself but just how I feel. I need to add Ashley is wonderful. I cannot believe how your so-called friend treated you. Friendship is so much more than getting along, shared interests, being able to laugh together. Connection and intimacy and vulnerability are the defining factors of actual friendship and it isn’t easy to find people who meet on that level. And then to maintain and nurture that kind of love and openness, it’s truly a gift, something to be respected and treated as precious. I’m glad you have that in your life and that you give that to others.

First of all, I'm so sorry you experienced what you did from someone who you trusted so much. No one should have to go through that, especially if they are feeling lost and like they have nowhere else to turn. Your experience reiterated to me something that I've been thinking about changing for this year: that I need to stop giving my time/energy/thoughts to people who don't deserve or value it. So thank you for that stark reminder. Something similar happened to me with a friend... While I was in college, I had a health problem, needed surgery, and ended up spending a month in bed, just before the final exams. Long story short, I missed 1 month of classes, had been taking strong pain medication, and was behind on all subjects. Because of the anesthetics and drugs, I couldn't even read a sentence until the end without forgetting the beginning of it; I couldn't understand anything! So... I asked my best friend for help with a subject she was better than me at because I saw no way of passing it on my own, and her answer was "I have plans with my boyfriend, and in the weekend I'm going away with my parents to our new house at the beach". I was so angry that I actually wished that something bad happened to someone, which is something I never do. But I wished she would fail, just like I likely would. I did fail the exam (by very little), but strangely enough, she also did, and with a low grade (even though she was much better at this than I was; I guess all that time with bf and at the beach didn't help). However, I had gotten a good grade in the midterm, so I passed the subject directly, while she had to do a recovery exam, which she also failed. So... she failed the subject. The most pathetic thing, is that I felt horrible for wishing she failed (that I still do, to be honest), and kept considering her one of my best friends for another 10 years, until while already living in a different country, I started realizing that our friendship had always been kind of one sided. I felt so stupid when I realized how she had treated me all along... How could I not see it? When you put all the stories together, it's sort of embarrassing that I could be so blind... I don't think she meant it, she's a good person deep down, but damn did she treat me like a door mat! (she's not a mean person, she's just not the smartest, and cannot put herself in other people's shoes; she truly does not understand the other side). So yeah... your story is bad, but at least you figured it out right away, and didn't make excuses for her for another 10 years, like an idiot.

Forgot to say something: I was in general a better student than she was (except for this one class), and I ALWAYS helped her before the exams. This was the first and only time I asked for help. On the other hand, I was used to go to her whenever she was crying because she thought she was going to fail, or because she had had a fight with a boyfriend. She had never called me once that I didn't go to her. This was the only time I asked for her to help me instead.

I’ve been in a very similar situation to you. I’ve started over with my life, escaping a bad situation. I can relate to how you felt when your best friend didn’t have time for you. And my immediate thought was that was your sign (an air horn, maybe) that she wasn’t really *your* best friend - as BFF are supposed to be. 🤗 If it makes you feel any better, it took more than ten years for me to open myself to dating again after my divorce. I took that time to learn who I am and what I wanted for my life. Now, I have a truly awesome husband and it was 100% worth the wait! I also want to ask - what?!? You got death threats for getting divorced?!? WTF! I think you said you talked about it in another video. If so, which one? I’d like to understand more. The idea that anyone would do such a thing completely baffles me.

I used to watch beauty youtube a lot. The drama ruined it in the you tube space. Now, I haven’t bought makeup in 3 years, threw away most of what I had, and do not support any company or any influencers launches anymore. Which really sucks for the ones that were good people. But I also feel like everyone’s political stances and stances on Covid the last 3 years ruined the beauty industry too. I am not right or left but the last three years and people taking sides and condemning the other half and the violence and misinformation and hostility and forceful opinions put the nail in the coffin for the beauty industry for me personally

I went to college for Accounting. It took some time but I am finally working as an Accountant and it's my dream job. I get what you are saying about talking in front of a camera. It's not easy. I couldn't do it, but that's why I'm an Accountant and you are a content creator. 😂

I'm glad for you! Even though it sounds like you've been though it you seem in a better head space. As for the drama beauty space, I have so many thoughts and I probably should just make a channel some day lol! I have not been into big content creator's at all these days. I've been much more into low buys, panning, get ready with me, content. I realized this year I just dont think i can take someones thoughts seriously when they are ranking 100 eyeshadow pallets that they tried in one year. There are 52 weeks in a year. How can you even have an informed opinion when you are going through so many products lol? I just have a little IG page and i feel overwhelmed with the dozen I bought. Less is more, genuine is best. Wishing you a fantastic 2024!!!!
