That's EXACTLY the reaction I had when I heard this the first time! A young child should not be able to imbue it with such emotion. There's a difference between singing a song and feeling it...and she can do both. I'm looking forward to seeing a lot more of her as she and her voice mature.

She is currently 13 (9 in this performance) - She began singing at the age of one and a half - At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through RU-vid videos and started studying all the greats from Jazz history. - Angelina always sings barefoot..... When Angelina was 6, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. The girl complimented her on her pretty shoes, so Angelina took them off and gave them to the girl. She made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help. (that's a shortened version. the full story is more touching than the way I have told it here). - She has always been the driving force behind her own singing career. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the show at just 8 years old. - In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes" - When Angelina was 9 years old she became the youngest published author in Norway, when she wrote a book about the story of why she doesn't wear shoes when she sings. She donates a portion of the proceeds from her book to help children in need. The book, illustrated by her grandmother, can be purchased on her website. They do not want her to be thrust into stardom before she has a chance to grow up as a normal child, and finish her education. They allow her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that come in. I have heard they have turned down offers from many major record labels and even disney. - Angelina has covered more than 100 songs over the last 6 years. She always selects the songs herself... everything ranging from old classic jazz to modern pop. She is able to change her voice to match any song she sings and make it her own. (she can cover Amy Winehouse and Lana del Rey like nobody else) - Angelina has collaborated with some very big names over the last few years... Quincy Jones, Mark Ronson, David Foster, and many more. All of which heard her covering their songs and were blown away by her talent. - Angelina has written three of her own original songs: "What is Life", "Shield" and "Oslo". (all are amazing...all can be found on youtube) In summary, Angelina Jordan is destined to be one of the greatest singers to have ever lived. This is just my opinion, but if you listen closely to any of her stuff you will hear the greatness. She sings with a natural style. There is no acting, no showing off, there are no unnecessary runs, or big belty notes just for the purpose of saying "hey look at me sing". She once said "when I sing I go into a magical world in my head", and you can always hear the results of that. When Angelina sings it is pure soul, pure emotion, pure music.

Every time I hear Angelina sing, I picture her stepping out of an old black & white movie, to transport us back in time, so we can fall in love with these genuine masterpieces again ❤️ 💚 💙 💜 Great reaction!!! A little backstory, for some of your subscribers who may not know......Angelina's Grandmother loved Blues & Jazz music, & they used to listen to it all the time, & Angelina was hooked, so her younger style tipped the scale closer to Jazz, and as she ages, she has developed many other styles of music, including her own, & now can sing almost anything!!! She also sews most of her outfits, does all her own musical arrangements, & goes barefoot, because she met a young girl when performing one day, who had no shoes & could not afford to buy any, so Angelina gave her the shoes she had on, & in memory of the girl, & poverty, she continues to goes barefoot! What can I say, except this young girl, is an inspiration, an amazing talent, has a huge compassionate heart, & the world is a much nicer place to be, with her in it !!!

If you are looking for the word to talk about the sound of her voice, among many musicians we use the word tone, but in jazz we often use the word sound. She has a big sound. Her tone is very fat. So you can choose . It varies by musical genre. Regarding the word harmony. The basic definition is the technical expression of music along with the word time. In music there is harmony and time/rhythm. So harmony is about which notes are being used. The lay/colloquial use of the word harmony is how well things work together and can have much broader usage. She's just incredible. I have never heard this song sung so good ever! If they put this on the radio it would be a hit, not doubt. She has been entering competitions and such and now that she has matured a few years later she can hold her own and does not need to enter competitions anymore in my opinion. She is so good and could go right to the top now if she wanted. She is doing it her own way and I think we will see a super star in the coming years. What a talent.

Yup, you just fell right into it. This rabbit hole is DEEP! Over a hundred video's to choose from. This was her tribute to Screamin Jay Hawkins 9 or 10 yrs old. First Angelina is an old soul who loves to sing old jazzy songs from the good old days. She doesn't really sing this loud and powerful much. In this case she has to because it's the Great Screamin Jay Hawkins that she is honoring. She has a powerful vocal that has a wide range. She can simply sing any songs she wanted. She's well known of her very impressive deep low register. But one thing that Angelina stands out among the rest is her song interpretation. She can connect to any song like no other can. At a very young age many already considered her as a musical genius. She creates her own arrangements, she wrote her own song... Can play multiple musical instruments... And more so has a very high musical IQ. But above all that it's the respect she's giving to the music. Her pure intentions with regards to music is what I love about her the most.

She has over 100 cover songs but she also have written Three original songs at the age of 11 years old. She first appeared at Norway got talent back in 2014 when she just was 7 years old singing billie holiday song «Gloomy sunday». And at the age of 8 years old she won Norway got talent with a song from George gershwin called «Summertime». She has covered many old classics in jazz like billie holiday , Frank Sinatra ,Elvis presley, etta fitzgereld to mention a few but she has also coverd modern artists like adele, lana del ray, Whitney Houston and amy winehouse to mention a few. But many stop to react to her after this video, which I hope you don't do. She has much more to offer. And you have just started the journey if you continue to react to her. I first discovered Angelina Jordan Astar when she first participated in Norway's got talent 2014, when she was 7 and 8 years old. A fan of a child. I wouldn't believed it if you had asked me 10 years ago. I have never been interested in the jazz music genre , but Angelina's interpretations of old jazz music classics has "opened my eyes" for that kind of music for sure, and in a way "touched me". In the past year she has posted some great covers of modern music as well. As many has written she has released some original songs. One of them is her song Shield, which has already been covered in a song competition. What makes this song much more impressive Angelina wrote (musical arrangement ) this tribute to Screaming Jay Hawkins the Guy on the cup in cooperation with her band by herself. The songs i recommend are born to die , and its a mans world and Shield. But the mayor problem is she did over 100 cover songs with 3 originals and each song is better then the last. I've watched your other videos on Angelina Jordan which are excellent but somehow you missed the brilliance of this one! Seriously! For real! Angela is improvising. She has grown up with this kind of music like African American singers have grown up with music in the church, and she has made this song her own and toward the end, as one reviewer pointed out, she works in a little Middle East sound / phrasing. She's brilliant now! I believe Angelina has listened to more old school jazz and blues that those who are now reviewing her! Her grandmother - 1/2 Japanese and 1/2 Iranian - is a visual artist. She is the one who passed on this African American tradition to her. And for the record, Angelina is always in bare feet as a tribute to children who don't have shoes. Amazing her social consciousness. Please listen, my brother, the late Amiri Baraka / Le Roi Jones would see her as equal to seasoned jazz blues singers , not simply as a child with amazing potential. She is "in the tradition". My suggestion for you is please "go back to church" and listen more to more "old school" and hope that "old school" will soon be "new school" once again after more people listen to Angelina.
