Not native here - What does the he say afterwards? "Fair Play, the balls of the man"? In some spanish-speaking countries we use the words "balls"/"testicles" both for "courage" (Tiene dos cojones bien puestos) (quite patriarchally, won't deny it). But also to "critisize laiziness, cheekiness, wrong moral, bad education, unwillingness to help" (Vaya huevazos tienes...) In English seems to mean "stupid" or "wrong" as per Collins dictionary. Is the looser guy being called "stupid/silly", "cheeky" or what?
@valkrae4876

@@Demurralable In English, saying that someone has balls means that they have 'courage'. We don't really use it as 'stupid' or 'wrong' as much. At least, here in the States we don't. In this context, it could also mean something similar to 'audacity', which is the ability to take bold risks.
@cyberperson53

@@Demurralable Yep, Greg says "Fair play, the balls of the man." In English, we tend to use that saying similarly to how you describe it in Spanish, both for courage and for cheekiness/audacity. In a way, Greg's using both meanings here, though given the context he's being more than a little bit sarcastic with regards to the "courageous" meaning; he's basically saying that James, in light of how disastrous his attempt to complete the task was, is being both slightly brave and very cheeky in criticising someone else's attempt.

It was clever, but it was also kind of "pathetic" in that I really don't think many people would count that as working. Especially-so because if you take the representation of what he drew as the actual circle then he didn't even draw a circle, because the map is deformed, and if you pieced together the map back to a globe it wouldn't look anything like a circle, so it's still a fail. However despite that, ignoring the unfair snow advantage, he was really the only person that drew an actual decent circle of _any_ size, and hence merits a high position. Kerry's circle had a good chance of beating Rod's had she even stuck with paper, but she could have messed it up (namely due to the fact that stuff doesn't stick to tape well, and drawing on the side that isn't taped would have it's own problems as well (getting caught on the gaps, since one _cannot_ lift their writing instrument up).

I liked this challenge. I like stuff like this. Honestly I'd have to give the map circle 5 points not because of it being on a map, but because was literally the only real/decent circle that anyone drew while ignoring unfair advantages. Snow circle gets 4 points because she had (and abused) an extremely unfair advantage, but still no one did anything that merits pushing her any lower. She even had a _chance_ at getting 5 point had he kept with her original plan of using the large paper. Even if the map circle was to be treated figuratively, what he then drew wasn't a circle, due to the deformations of the map.

Although funny, there is a pretty big error in this. The thing the guy drew on the world map was only a circle on the map. If you rescale the circle like you would rescale the map back to the entire earth, the shape if the line on the map wouldnt be a circle. this is because the scaling isnt lineair, its a projection of a sphere on a flat surface. drawing a straigt line on the equator would be a circle, drawing a vertical line throught greenwich and a secont one through the paciffic ocean would be a circle, even a single face of any sine wave would have been correct. @iglidor
@iglidor 4 года назад
That map had a scale marked to it. I mean when you look at map and see that place where you want to go is just 5 centimeters from where you are now, do you actualy think that it is just 5 cm or do you realize that it is those 5 cm multiplied by scale of the map? He created absolutely huge circle to the scale of what he decided to paint it on.
@johnmonk66
@johnmonk66 4 года назад
@@iglidor was the challenge the largest representative circle? they should use that for every task then. need the biggest piece pf bread, put it next to a drawing of a tiny sun, fit the most eggs in a basket, draw tiny dots to represent eggs, you can get thousands of dots on a sheet of paper........ still a cheat
@iglidor
@iglidor 4 года назад
@@johnmonk66 Thing is, bread actualy exists. Circle does not. Remember that circle is two dimensional object that we only expres in our three dimensional world by likening it to something else that actualy exists. So putting it up to scale is less outrageous then trying to put bread to scale. Still if they would try it in future tasks, you can bet your lunch that they would simply put in rule that would specify what exactly they want. Lot of these tasks are clearly ambiguous and open ended to allow exactly these kind of shenanigans for the laughs.

@iglidor
@iglidor 4 года назад
@@johnmonk66 When you draw a circle on paper, you are creating thin layer of grafite or ink (depending on what you are using) in shape of circle. But technicaly it can not be physical projection of circle since it has three dimensions (even though its width is immeasurable by naked eye). We just assume that it is circle as working premise for whatever you are trying to get to by making that shape. But if you are at least past elementary school, you should be aware that it is not actualy circle but a ring. Same thing for square, triangle etc. Things can have their atributes, but as long as we live in 3D world, 2D objects can exists only as concepts.
